  1. Argh. Figured that since my parents were so intimately detailed with their financial details, banks, assets, etc this would not be required.

For my form, as I have absolutely no savings or real income, would I need anything more than a signed copy saying how poor I am?

Does my copy need to also be notarized or not?

I appreciate the information, dunno how we'd even be to this point without this community.

  2. I am in need of the guidance of this community.

My fiancee has her date set for early Feb and has all the relevant forms, however as I'm a poor student I just had my parents do a affidavit of support form for her. Signed, notarized, letters from banks, employeers, assets, etc.

Since I do not meet the criteria to support her, I didn't fill our a form for myself.

Was I incorrect to do this?

And if I need to, would a skimmed down version without any supporting documents (On scholarship, no real income outside of a 500 dollar stipend) be sufficient?

  3. If you included copies of birth certificate (front and back) then you don't need to provide copies of all pages of your passport. We did, just to be safe, but it's not necessary. You're good, good luck!

    Thanks guys. Appreciate the feedback.

My petition, 60+ odd pages is in the mail. The only thing I forgot to do is label the mailing envelope as to its contents and nature of the submission. :(

Cover page is a modified version of the template provided on this site, so that's properly labeled. Always a mistake that escapes your eye, bleh.

Heh, postal worker commented on where I was sending it (California Service Center), recommending I get a return receipt because "Those guys tend to lose things a lot."

  4. Ok one last paranoid question before I file — swear. :)

To establish my citizenship, I include a copy (front and back) of my U.S. birth certificate.

Then for proving I've visited my fiancee as many times as I've claimed, I've printed out old flight itineraries and have scanned pages of my passport to show that I entered the country.

I only scanned the cover page of my passport (face and info) and then pages with relevant visa and stamps — not all my passport pages.

Is this bad? Should I include everything just for the hell of it and kill some more trees and burn some more ink?

thats fine, you only need to print all pages + front and back cover of passport if you are using it to establish citizenship, but since you are using your birthcertificate, it's not a problem..

    Thanks!

  6. So I'm about to submit my I-129F package.

I'm including a supplement to it basically pointing out that my current address on the GS-325A and the current address listed in my I-129F are different.

Rationale being that my residency is in Colorado (paaarents) — where I want all visa stuff being sent to — and my current address is in California where I go to school paying out of state tuition.

Does anyone predict any problems or complications going this way? As I'm going back to China to be with her this summer and to do a study program, it makes the most sense logistics wise.

    Thanks for input.

  7. Those are hardly 'official' usages. If *she* has used it for anything official (such as her name on a physical phone bill or bank account, etc) I would think you should note it, but, IMHO, email & skype 'handles' and, even less, an article *you* wrote wouldn't be anything noteworthy.

For the same reason, I didn't and wouldn't list "iLoveAPolishGirl" or any other internet handle I've used in the past.

    dvc

Yeah, she's never used it for anything legal. The Westernized version has proven advantageous at work where she teaches Montessori and expats pay top dollars for "foreign teachers."

    She's actually Singaporean.

I'll include a brief note in the package and otherwise continue as is.

  8. One for, one against.

Maybe leave the "Other Names" blank and just include an add-on sheet explaining the use of a different non-legal spelling?

will you be using her phone bill as evidence or something?

Well, Skype Phone logs for the last 8 months. Her email address is Sue as well, which have a lot of emails. And the article I wrote about her when we were students at University, her name was westernized too.

  9. Question for all of you in the know —

My fiancee changed her Chinese name to a western style spelling to spell her name out Sue as opposed to Su Min. The Western version is in everything from phone records to newspaper articles, etc. However, it's not been used for anything "legal" -- she still signs her name Su, and that's how it's spelled out in her passport and ID cards.

After having compiled all the information for proof of relationship and information in general, I'm having a slight "freak out" that I may need to flesh this out a little.

Do I need to list this on the "Previous Names Used" in the I-129F form and add a page to the package explaining this?

    Thanks for your time.

  10. Hi — I'm finalizing my K1 packet and when my finance and I went to get passport photos taken, they cropped it funny so it was 1x2" instead of 2" x 2".

So I recropped the file he included on CD along with the printed photos and came up with this.

I believe it meets UCIS's requirements, but could someone please double check me so I don't commit a time-wasting mistake?

    Thanks. :)

Well, i hate to tell you, but your face turned blurry, so maybe they need to focus the cam. :star:

Heh, the original is sharp. But the composition is what I'm worried about. Is the cropping too tight at top/bottom?

  12. Hi,

Quick background -- met my fiance in school in the Western US. She took a job as a Montessori teacher in Beijing, a resident of Singapore. After a brief break of 11 months or "gap year" of courting in person, I went back to finish my masters degree.

    I have two questions:

    1. Will I run into any serious problems as a broke student? I have a savings account and a graduate research assistantship bringing in 500-700 bucks a month.

    2. Aside from items marked optional, everything listed under the "example forms" is required along with check/money order at initial time of filing, correct?

Thanks for your time and help!

    Dave
