  1. I am preparing in advance two DS 230 for both of my parents for them to sign and return to me. They have given me the info and I have typed it all up etc. Question 34 on the form asks if they have had any help filling the form in . Well, they have from me and it would be easy to simply tick yes and fill in my name , especially as it is my intent to act as their agent on the DS 3032. However, I have read that if you are not a lawyer etc its better to tick no. What are the implications if I do tick yes? Will it matter either way?

Because I am in the USA and they are in Cyprus, I would also like for them to presign the DS 3032 which I can download now without having to wait for it to be sent, so that is ready when the request comes. Can I do this now or is there a barcode or something that will be present on the one they send and I would only end up having to send it out to Cyprus again. I know they will get one their end as well, but there postal service is somewhat unreliable and I was hoping to get it signed now with plenty of time to spare.

Lastly, I will have to send original documents with the DS 230 to the NVC and it says they will get them back at their interveiw, however I have also seen that original documents used for the petition must be taken to interveiw. How can you do both? Will I also have to send them my original birth certificate, naturalisation certificate and marriage certifcate to prove our relationship for interveiw even though we don't live in the same country as they were used to support the original petition?

DS-230 is the main reason why I have long delayed on my Mom visa process.Take me forever to complete them and really make sure everything is right and I send it in Philippines so she can sign it and let them sign the DS 3032 and let them send it to NVC.I check yes on question 34 since I am Mom Agent.Yes you got to send original documents with DS-230 to the NVC.Make sure to tell your parents to get 2 to 3 original copies of each documents. It;s always nice to have original copies on hand.

  2. Hi,

Just curious because I am one of the few on here with the same category as you. I am petitioning both my parents and I am in the early stages. How long did it take you from filing to interveiw? I am expecting around a year but the embassy told my parents they are processing similar petitions out of the USA that were generated 6-8 months ago because parents are often very simple to process. That sounds too quick to me. The process isn't too difficult for me and I am going to take it all on for them because they are relatively elderly, although they will have to attend interveiws etc on their own because they live in Cyprus, I did all my own paperwork for my greencard and my US citizenship and so it doesn't really phase me too much, its the timelines which seem to confuse me. Every website I saw told me my US citizenship was going to take a year or so and it took three months so I am skeptical of given timelines. Appreciate your input and congratulations on the impending arrival of your Mother.

Mom petition was approved by NVC last November 2007.It's over a year before she was interviewed.I think it's all my fault .I beleive she could be interviewed last August or September if I am quick about sending all the paperworks NVC needed.I was trying to delayed sending some documents and form NVC asking since back in my mind if I speed it up this could be mean I am going back again in Philippines ang get Mom.I went visit Mom last May 2008.I plan the whole thing that if I wanna return home to get Mom it should be January and it sure work for me. I beleive its true it could actually take 6-8m months process. We do everything in slow face no hurry and make sure everything is perfect. But I am glad it work out good base on my plan.

  3. First of all I wanna thank Visa journey for this excellent website.I've done lots of research for mom immigrant visa interview and medical here and really glad I stumble on this site.Lot's of helpul information here.

One thing I notice there are not many IR5 category experience here but still grateful to read the K3 experience and K1 at least give you insight what to do.Anyone here who petition their parents should do lot's of research regarding the medical and interview and make sure you will feed them with all those information. It sure speed up the process.Make sure to give all the step by step guide and details even little details about what they gonna do,where they suppose to go next and so on.

Mom schedule interview in U.S embassy manila is Dec. 2, 2008 around 6:30 a.m and I told her to have her medical exam on November 17,2008. Please make everything extra comfortable for your parents don't just let them go to Manila with tight budget. My mom live in Bohol and she fly with me before in Manila but then to make her feel more comfortable I ask my two nieces to go with her on her medical exam. They fly from Bohol visa Philippines Airline I told them to only fly with Philippines airline even if Cebu pacific is way cheaper.Good thing we had personal driver in Manila since my sister live there so they just take mom and nieces to the nearest hotel in St. Luke medical clinic the Hotel Soriente.

Now mom problem is she had limited understanding on both tagalog and english language. She speak visayan our native tougue. She went for medical exam on November 17,2008.But the day before my niece went to St. Luke do some checking and she befriended with the guard there.Everybody said only person with the appointment letter can get inside.I read and hear it all the time.My niece ask the guard what they should do since mom can hardly speak tagalog or english but she understand. The guard ask her how old Mom is and she said 68.They tell her no problem, she should have at least one person who accompany her since she is a senior citizen.Yes its true they let someone accompany with the senior citizen during the entire medical exam. It's actually a big relief on our part since we worry Mom so much I am sure she will be really confused inside. She never been sick nor visit a doctor office before her medical exam in St. Luke is actually her first time being examine by doctor. She got done with the medical around 9:00 am really early.I tell you the secret to this is more research and give them all the details everything you can think of ,any information useful ,it sure speed up everything. They let them back the next day November 18,2008 for the result. They wait from 7:30 and then giver her immunization shot and they went back to their hotel around 9:30 not a long wait really for the result. Some people spend whole day waiting for the result in St. Luke. She passed her medical and sure we are happy about the result.I was worried sick before, what if they found some illness that could delay her interview.Thats the main reason why I tell mom to have her medical 2 weeks ahead of interview so if something went wrong at least we wont be so much worry that she will reschedule her interview. After the medical I let them rebook thier plane ticket and let them go back in Bohol and wait there for the interview.I know Mom will be really miserable staying in manila for longer period of time.I give them $2000 spending money and glad they save bunch for interview.Hubby send them another $1000 for interview spending money.

Mom and niece fly again in Manila on November 29,2008.They stayed in Bayview hotel.Another worry for mom because we know for sure they never let anybody in without appointment letter and my niece even ask if she can accompany my Mom inside on her interview. They tell her not to worry because they have interpreter inside. That part we are not worry but we are worried that for sure she will be confuse again inside without company. On the day of her interview December 2,2008 my Nun sister accompany with her.I was surprise when I try calling my niece she just said that my sister actually go with Mom inside.Yes they let her accompany Mom unbelievable maybe because she is a nun.I bet if its my niece sure enough they never let her in inside.Things went smoothed inside since my Nun sister guide mom all through the process. When the consul interview mom they never let my sister go in inside with mom. They actually provide mom with bisayan interpreter and she said she actually understand all the question and answer is right. Her question is Who is your petitioner? Do your daughter work in U.S? she said No (yes I never work here)What is her husband job? she said a farmer and then she was approved and pass the visa interview. As of last night we receive text message from delbros that Mom Visa is ready for delivery.Hope they get it soon so she can fly back in Bohol.
