  1. We are stuck in bureaucratic Hell!

...Texas version. After arriving in Texas last Wednesday, we headed for my bank to open an account for my fiancee. The bank requires some kind of ID with a Texas address...obviously not something you have when arriving on a K1 visa. They suggested that she apply for a Texas Drivers license and they would accept the temporary paper that is issued while waiting for the permanent license. Off to the DPS license office....It seems that Texas has recently passed a law that requires an immigration document with at least 6 months of validity...otherwise, you can't have a license. Since a K1 is only good for 90 days...we were refused...wasted trip!

What have recent arrivals in Texas done as far as identification that the bank will accept? I'm way past pissed at the bank, Texas, and all the morons who make immigration such a pain in the ####...

  2. Can anyone who's already done the K-1 in Texas tell me if my Canadian fiancee must have a SSN when applying for the marriage license? The morons at my County Clerk office can't seem to agree if it's needed or not. The Montreal consulate says that Texas must issue the marriage license based on the K-1 without a SSN, but I doubt that my County Clerk is going to believe me.

  3. So far everyone has been concentrating on the problems leaving Canada at the U. S. border. When my fiancee is approved, I'll be entering Canada with a one-way ticket and driving my fiancee's car back to Texas. I expect this will require trigger all kinds of flags with the Canadian border officials. I'm assuming that I will be required to show at least some of the K-1 paperwork to make them happy. Anyone else have prior experience???

  4. While Ms. Napolitano and the rest of the Washington clueless are not very popular in Texas due to the infamous Border Fence and other assorted stupidity, she is correct in stating that the only terrorist ever caught at the border was coming from Canada.... I don't think any of us blame Canada.

  5. And don't forget that if your photo doesn't pass the test and you finish the app without a passable photo, I believe you are required to bring an extra passport photo. I'm not entirely sure if they ask for one, but maybe someone who recently did this can confirm.

That is correct. You are instructed to attach a passport photo to the confirmation page from the DS-160 when you submit your papers at the consulate.

Which forum were you intending to post this?

It is intended for the Canadian forum since I believe they are the only consulates using the DS-160 on-line form.

  6. The general guideline on this forum and other posts have stated that a photo is not required to complete the on-line form. This is only partially correct. You cannot continue the form unless you up-load a test photo. We did not have a photo that would pass the specs, but attempted to up-load one anyway. It failed the test but we were then allowed to continue the form. Be prepared to have some kind of photo to up-load or you won't get beyond that page.

  7. We are currently waiting on package 3 to arrive from the Montreal consulate. Can my fiancee schedule her medical now with only the case number, or is she required to have package 3? From other posts, I see that the police report can be done with only the case number.

    Thanks...

  8. Can we all start a timeline and indicate when we send in the packet 3 and when we receive packet 4 and interview date? I think it would be helpful to everyone waiting for their interview.

There is already a list being kept that indicates all milestone dates...select

Immigration Timelines from the pull-down menu above...then select

    Visa Display Options...

    View K1 Visas {Advanced View}

  9. I received an email today confirming our NOA2 approval from VSC. We were #189 on the VJ list and #91 on the Berkely list. Based on previous approval timelines, it looks like about 3 weeks from now until Montreal sends package #3.

  10. I was at 170 (on the VJ igor's list) when I got approval from VSC.

This is what I suspected. Your place on the list has little or no correlation to when you get approval other than the probability that you're more likely to be approved at #200 than at #400. It appears to be more or less random based on where you are in the particular stack that is selected for processing.

  11. My fiancee is planning a trip to see me during the time frame when she might be receiving the first package/check list from the Montreal consulate. Is this package delivered by normal mail or will she have to be there to sign for it? If a signature is required, we may have to postpone her trip.

  12. You can sort the VJ list by date of application or date of NOA1. In my case, it changes by about 18 places. The difference between the 2 lists is nearly 100 places. My timeline estimates a NOA2 around 5 weeks from now. At the rate Vermont has been moving (20 to 30 apps/week) they won't make that date using the VJ list info. The number on the Berkeley list is more realistic for mid-to late April NOA2...at least in my case. The VJ timeline seems to be based on averages of previous applicants, not actual data from either list.
