  1. To clarify- are you currently living in the USA and have a valid greencard?

Yes, I have a green card since 2012. We are going through ROC at the moment. My husband is active military and we are stationed overseas.

    Seconded.

Dual citizenship with Germany, if the OP has that as well, is difficult, but not at all difficult for British.

I already have British and Canadian, as do my parents; we naturalized to Canada, and that event did not relinquish our existing British , as relinquishing it requires you to go through specific steps (gaining citizenship elsewhere does not count). Since getting Canadian a few decades ago my parents have always maintained passports in both countries, and I have generally as well.

I think US citizenship is the world's best, if you can choose only one, but British is probably in the top three. I heard recently that it allows visa-less access to more countries than any other. Full access to EU nations, and Great Britain continues to be one of the better countries to live in, so I understand why you would not want to lose it--and the good news is, you won't.

I hold British and Greek Citizenship. The Greek passport I am willing to give up.No German Citizenship. Being born in Germany doesn't automatically make me a German citizen by law.

So you didn't have to apply for a retention or anything like that? No specific application to fill out? Are you sure?

This is my concern and main question. As I know that German Citizens wishing to become US citizens have to apply for a Retention Certificate and must receive it before they take the Oath or otherwise they will lose German Citizenship.

Yeah, I want to keep my UK one for easier access to EU countries incl. Germany where my family lives.

  2. Hi all,

these past few days I ve been tossing around the idea of becoming a US Citizen through naturalization (mu husband is American). This was never my plan but we ve had a baby a few months ago and I would just feel better having a US Citizenship.

My whole citizenship situation is frustrating and messy so I m not sure if things work out the way I would like to.

I m a British Citizen born (which makes me a British citizen by descent), raised and lived in Germany my whole life until 2012. Thats the year we moved.

I would like to apply for US citizenship but don't want to give up my British one. Do I even stand a chance of keeping it? Also, in order to keep it do I need to apply to some sort of Retention Certificate or can I just go ahead and apply for US citizenship?

How does the whole process for UK citizens work?

    Any help would be appreciated!

  3. Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone here has any current experiences regarding processing times for emails.

My 90 day window for Removal of Conditions opens up mid of June.

4 weeks ago I contacted the embassy to set up an appointment for Fingerprints. One week later I received a response that I need to contact USCIS in BANKOK???!! I wrote them back that I believe they misread my email. We are stationed overseas and according to the instructions for ROC I can take finger prints at an US Embassy. Since then I have not heard back from them.

My husband has sent them an email as well 10 days ago and hasn't gotten a reply.

Is this normal for Sydney Consulate to wait this long for an answer??

I'm getting a little nervous now....

    Thanks heaps!!

  4. Dang! I want to PCS to Australia!!!! tell me more??? Thanks for your words... I know I wont be to far behind him. It still sucks... we have done a 15 month deployment and recently finished a 12... but thats life!!! I wish you well too.... I wish id known about the erly submission of the i-130... then id be set... im such a dud. HAHA

Ok, seeing it from that perspective I totally understand you want to pcs together. You earn my respect for 2 deployments!!! Thats the reason I want to go to aussie land so bad.... 3 year tour in Alice Springs without deployment! Otherwise we will pcsing to a deployable unit (would be the first deployment for us and not sure how I will be dealing with it). Hope to read from you if you received your visa in time.

  5. Hey, Oooh ok, I see.... well, that explains it lol.

I ve checked on a forum called Amerika Forum - its just in German, but they have some DCF timelines which are only a few months old. One guy even received his visa within 6 weeks (but that was in year 2010).

I wish you luck, January is not too far out and not sure if the consulate will be working between xmas and New Years. But since you have already sent in the Checklist and had your medical, you are only now waiting for your interview. And even if your husband has to leave without you, it wont be months, only a week or two - hang in there, it could be worse. I am confident, that it will be ok... (darn, wish I could be this cool when talking about my DCF hahaha. We PCS in August 2012 (hopefully to Australia :D ) and we wont be able to file until at least Feb. which still gives us 5 months but I m already going loco

  6. Hi Lana, sorry I didnt mean to confuse you. I was just wondering why you are filing for a visa. You live in germany on military orders, so I assume you were living in Australia with your husband before. Didnt you need to have a visa already for being on your husbands orders? The wife of my husbands platoon SGT couldnt come to Germany with him because she didnt have her visa yet, so she couldnt be on his orders.

    When is your husbands DEROS?

I checked recent timelines on another forum and right now it takes approx. 3-4 months from submitting the paperwork until receiving the visa (which is not bad I think). Also, they say to find out about your status, it would be better to call and ask Immigration Service.

Besides that, dont sweat it girl :). You did all your homework in time, so there wouldnt be any delay. And like DCFAM says, you should have absolutely nothing to worry about.

  7. We met each other on a Saturday morning at 7am in front of a cigarette machine. We shared a Doner at a Turkish place and I thought my purse (with my apartment keys, passport, cell phone) was stolen while we were eating. He escorted me home because I was quite confused and totally overstrained. I live on a raised ground floor and he had to break into my bedroom to open the front door for me.

While he was inside to open the door for me, he found my purse. I totally forgot, that I brought it home before I went out with my friends. LOL

I told him I am going to invite him for dinner as a thank you, but it got more and more serious between us.

  8. Hey there!

Part C is other general information!

Only question 1 is about Military service.

Question 2 is further information and says “Have you ever been convicted….. (CIVIL or CRIMINAL). You should have made a cross, either yes or no. No matter if he has never served the military.

Regarding the form it says (if you crossed “yes”):

Answering this question is required even if your records were sealed or otherwise cleared or if anyone, including a judge, law

enforcement officer, or attorney, told you that you no longer have a record. Using a separate sheet(s) of paper, attach information

relating to the conviction(s), such as crime involved, date of conviction and

    Liebe Grüße,

    Katharina
