    Alright! I had another infopass appointment today and everything has been resolved. They rescheduled my biometrics appointment

    to an office near me on 2/7/12. And what's more, I have an I-551 stamp in my passport. So everything is good now. :dance:

    Hey fellow November-2011-filers!

    So I had an Infopass appointment last Wednesday. I let them know that I never received the NOA1 and therefore needed an I-551 stamp in my passport. The other problem was my biometrics appointment being scheduled in our previous city of residence. Of course I had hoped they could take the biometrics and give me the I-551 right then and there. Oh silly me. Of course not. :bonk:

    In case anyone also needs an I-551: They only give them out during the last month of the Greencard being valid. So I had to make another appointment. I am already curious about what the problem will be then. There will be some problem. There always is.

    When it comes to the biometrics appointment, he told me to do what the biometrics letter says: Send the letter to the USCIS office I have an appointment with and ask them to reschedule. Now you could say that that serves me right. Why didn't I read the letter? Well, I did, but the agent on the USCIS hotline told me to make an Infopass appointment TO reschedule the appointment. Of course one would be rather curious as to why they cannot reschedule it from whatever ?#@*&%! office they want to. Oops, sorry. Of course that is not possible. Maybe not included in the $585, I guess? Nah, probably just in order to serve me better.

    If I had gotten the right information on the hotline in the first place, I could have saved myself one visit. But then again I love to deal with immigration officers. Oh no: Wait! I don't.

    And the best part is: It's not over yet, we can have so much more fun together!

    Ok, so I called the USCIS hotline today and asked about my lost NOA1. They said to schedule an appointment with a DHS office near me and to bring the biometrics letter. Then I would get the I-551 stamp into my passport.

    Because of the biometrics appointment being scheduled in a city 2,000 miles away they told me to send a letter to the local DHS office together with a copy of the biometrics letter to explain the situation and reschedule.

    Like Yurika & Jim already wrote: A couple of people did walk-ins at different DHS offices than they were scheduled for and were let in after explaining the reasons. I will try that this week and see what happens. I guess the worst-case scenario is that they have me reschedule it. So there is not a lot to lose and I can probably get the stamp and the biometrics done at the same time. Any experience with the DHS office in Manhattan on the Upper West Side, anyone? :D

    BTW, the hotline of the USCIS was a positive surprise. After the mandatory automated Q&A I got an agent after 10 seconds in the waiting line. He answered my questions quickly and friendly.

    I think you can't reschedule bio date earlier than appointment date. Why don't you just try walk-in? Where is your local office? Maybe other member can give you advice on walk-in?

    Correcting your bio date's year part ;) It should be 2012 :whistle:

    Thank you very much for correcting my mistake! Well, we will see what they say on the phone tomorrow I guess. Has anyone done a walk-in?

    And I just realized that there is actually a teeny-tiny problem: The NOA1 states the following:

    "Your alien card is extended one year - employment and travel authorized"

    And as mentioned previously: I never received the NOA1.

    Ok, it seems, this was the biometrics appointment letter I received and the NOA1 was lost in the mail. I checked the status on the USCIS webpage and it says there, my notice of action was sent on Nov. 21.

    And when it comes to the biometrics appointment, I guess I will have to call their hotline tomorrow and hope this will be easy to have them reschedule it somewhere close by.

    Finally received the NOA. There are two things I am concerned about:

    1. Why is my appointment for the biometrics on the NOA document? I thought that would be a separate letter. Is this not the biometrics appointment but an interview?

    2. They haven't realized that I moved. Of course I filed an AR-11 before filing for the removal of conditions and of course the new address is also in the I-751. That didn't prevent them from giving me an appointment at an application support center 2,000 miles away in the city we previously lived.

    Would be glad about a couple of suggestions about the fact that I have an appointment on the NOA1 and why and about how to let them know that the appointment has to be rescheduled at an office near where I live now.

    I just want to say that I am feeling honored to contribute with as little as $590 to improve the DHS computer infrastructure for the greater good of the filers after me. Hopefully the automatic generator for the biometrics appointment letters can be made aware of recent changes of the addresses of permanent residents. That would be really great. Thank you, DHS!

    Any advice on how to avoid shipping charges?

    Anytime I want to ship something to Germany from the States the price tags brings tears to my eyes.

    Shipping anything other than documents in an envelope with UPS or FedEx costs a fortune. The cheapest

    way of shipping is usually USPS. Since I usually send something for birthdays, etc. the shipping often

    costs as much as the contents of the parcel.

    Today I tried to go to a German online store and wanted to pay with my MasterCard. That way it would be

    shipped within Germany and I could avoid the additional shipping charge shipping it from the States.

    Unfortunately it seems they don't allow this. Then I set up a PayPal account. Same result. It is not allowed.

    Did I just make a mistake? Are there better ways? What is your experience?

    Transferring money from the States to Germany

    Hi everyone!

    We want to transfer money from an American account at Wells Fargo to a German account at Sparkasse Landshut.

    Of course we have the IBAN and BIC. IBAN is not the problem, the problem is the BIC.

    The BIC looks like this:

    BYLADEM1LAH

    Wells Fargo claims that they can't transfer money there, since this BIC would not be registered. I don't know where they want it

    to be registered. It sure is registered at www.swift.com.

    There is one thing to note, though: Since the 8th token is a 1, it means, that the BIC is an unconnected BIC, also called a BIC1

    or a non-SWIFT BIC. That means, that bank is not connected to the SWIFT-network. That's not a problem in Europe, but it could

    well be a problem for a money transfer from the States.

    Has anyone any experience with that or even a solution?

    Not changing your name definitely won't hurt you if you have a bonafide marriage.

    But since you haven't changed your name as you said, I don't understand the difference between your maiden name and your married name. You said you haven't changed it so it should be identical. You would need to clarify that for me.

    As for the SSN, I would suggest you simply write an email to the Social Security Administration and find out if your SSN is still valid or not.

    So sworn translators don't count?

    Of course sworn translators count.

    But as I understand it every translated document needs to have some kind of variation of the following text on it:

    In my capacity as a public translator for the English language, duly commissioned and sworn by the President

    of the Regional Court of ********** , I hereby confirm that the foregoing is a true and

    complete translation of the German document submitted to me in the original.

    stamped and signed by the translator.

    Of course that will look different for different countries and translators. If something like that is on the translation of your

    marriage certificate, you should be fine.

    Thank you! I was soo relieved and shocked when I heard him say "I will be issuing you the visa today" that I actually started tearing up! He just smiled and said "its ok" and "congratulations" :hehe:

    Yeah, I was so surprised too, when the CO said that everything was fine. I looked at my wife, she looked at me,

    both in disbelief that that had been the entire interview. I almost immediately wanted to break out in laughter for

    being so silly because of being worried and tense and grumpy beforehand.

    Only people who applied for visas can emphasize with this. :yes:

    Letter of Certification for translations

    In the instructions to the DS-230 (that you will have to fill out later on in the process of filing for a CR-1) it says:

    The translations must include a statement signed by the translator that states that the:

    - Translation is accurate and

    - Translator is competent to translate.

    So I would assume that also holds true for your case. I am pretty sure that you will have to

    get it translated again.
