  1. This forum is a great resource, and people here are so helpful !! I just got approved , with no lawer .

To give you an examle my husband spent a lot of money when applying for his citizenship- he is a citizen by naturalization (that years ago , he had some issues there, so he thought he needed a lawer and had to pay ) and still it took him years , the lawer were not really helpful, so in his case that was a complete waste of money!

So we were not even considering getting a lawer for filing my AOS .

If you try to do it yourself it may seem overwhelming first but take it step by step , ask questions, it is very doable !!! And many people here will agree with that.

    Good luck to you!!

  2. I filed my package on April 30 , i do not have time lines , sorry, but I am one of you guys- April filers.

We just got approved today!!!!!!!!! What a relief.

Here is how it went. We came to Newark office at around 10.25 ( our interview scheduled for 11) with our two kids. ( by the way there were many families with kids ) Had to wait till around 11.50- so that was some wait but I could not even be nervous because really had to concentrate on talking to and entertaining the kids so they would stay seated and not too loud B)

The IO sounded pretty serious and official but the interview went really quick- 5- 10 minutes the most. She asked some routine questins about how we met and how long have we known each other, in our case it has been years. She asked how many times I entered US and when and them some more questions on our applications. nothing unexpected.

She asked if we had any new financial evidences and that was pretty much it. She said we were approved and should get my Gc in mail soon.

I just checked my case status online - it says Card production ordered

I could not be happier  , we managed to do it without a lawer, but with a lot of useful information from Visajourney! (L) Thank you so much everybody !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (F)(L)

  3. One more thing. My letter says to bring

"A completed Affidavit(s) of Support (I-864) with all required evidence for each of your sponsors ( unless already submitted) "

Well, I did submit 2 Affidavits- from my husband and my mother- in -law (co-sponser) when mailing my initial package, so as I understand they do not expect me to bring the copies and the evidence .

Or may be I still should - just in case? (I have it in my computer so i could print them out but i will have to go to my mother-in -law to get her signiture on her again. )

    What do you think?

  4. The only thing is... the forms in my computer are not dated, as I dated them by hand after I printed them out ( before mailing). so just wonder - does that matter? does that have to be the same day as on those mailed applications ( which I do not exactly remember ) or it is not that important and it could be the date - just prior to my appointment date?

  5. Leave the kids at home. No need for them to be there.

Follow the recommendations in the VJ Guides. Bring originals and copies of all evidence and forms filed. Bring your copy of the entire K1 package.

ok, thanks, so I DO need to bring the copies of the entire package.

If you did it on your computer and saved all the forms there, it should be no problem for you to just reprint all the forms. You may not need them, but you should bring copies of everything you've sent.

I personally wouldn't recommend bringing your kids if you can find someone to watch them. Your interview is very important and you don't want to have any distractions. Also, there may not be much room for them at the USCIS office-when we had our interview it was almost standing room only.

thank you, yes, I do have them on my computer so I should just find and print them and reassemble the package againg ( another thick pile, lol)

  6. Hey guys. In July we recieved the notice about my GC interview date scheduled - September 1 ( which also happens to be my husband's 40 birthday (F) )

I do not have time lines here (sorry about it ) but have to say that was relatively quick, I filed at the end of April and sent the Immunization and medical form even later- in June.

I have found so much usefull information at this forum, thank you so much guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just a couple of quick questions. I have recieved a list of papers that we have to bring to the interview in my appointment letter, but should I also bring the copies of all my applications with me ( I 485, 1-130) ? I remember in the instructions to these forms it was mentioned that we shoud have two more copies of the actual applications. So do you bring them to the interview or not?

Also we have 2 kids and I was thinking about taking them with us, but not sure if it is a good idea. What do you think?

Bring not only the appointment letter but most importantly the evidences of a bonafide marriage. I am not sure about the kids since we don't have our baby yet that time. Good luck.

I will definitely bring the evidences, thank you. :)

  8. Hello, hope this is an appropriate place to ask this - it is related to the I-130 form:

In box 22: "Your relative is in the US and will apply for AOS to that of a lawful permanent resident at the USCIS office in:"

As I will be filing the I-130, I-485 concurrently - do I simply put:

    City: Chicago

    State: IL

As that is where the form instructions tell me to send these forms?

Just checking that I don't put "Jacksonville FL" - just because they're near to me... do I?

    Thanks.

So whats the answer to this question? The nearest office to me is San Francisco, CA... thats what I wrote on that box 22... but now i realize that i'm actually sending it out to Chicago... hmmmm....

What did you put in box 22? I wrote: Tucson, Arizona because I thought that's the nearest USCIS office for me. What exactly I supposed to write in this box 22? My mind is getting frustrated!!!

This is correct, closest office to you, don't put Chicago

    Thank you!

  9. My husband is the US citizen, when he filed the I-130, he checked "Status as Permanent Resident" since that form is submitted in CONNECTION with an application for the NON-US Spouse, which is me. As for my G325-A, I check that same thing too ""Status as Permanent Resident".

Touch wood, so far everything is going smooth....... GOOD LUCK to you also!

We are also a little confused about what my husband who is a US citizen should check in his G-325 A

in " This form is submitted in connection with application for ...

as I understand in his form it should be "other" , ( as he is obviously applying neither for naturalization nor for status as permanent resident) but then how does he specify this "other"?

In my G-325 A I just check "Status as permanent resident" , right?

oh, thank you, good luck to you too!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also , i do not have SSN, should I write NONE or N/A or should just leave it blank, so when I get it it could be written in there by USCIS . how does that work, anybody, please?

oh, I reviwed the example forms and figured out it shoud be just NONE.

oh, i thought the local office was meant here, i am not sure though  , so that is my question too.

  12. We are looking through I-130 Form , and here is a question about the evidence of marrige. Do you think the kid's birth certificates (we have 2 of them together) and the medical insurance for both my and my husband will be enough?

The thing is all the property is on his name as well as bank accounts and bills ( I do not have SSN ).

    yes that's fine

by the time the interview comes around you should get more stuff with your name on it.

Start getting both your names on things. Even have friends write letters addressed to both of you. Christmas cards are coming up.

My name is currently on the Gas & electric bil, bank account, his life insurance, and i think i'm also on our water bill...that's all for now...once i get EAD & ssn we'll try getting health insurance (only the kids have it now) and putting me on his car insurance...do you think this will be enough for interview along with photos, kids birth certificates and maybe a letter from our pastor...

hi, hi, I am from central Jersey. :)

I am planning to get the same things by the time of the interview. I think having kids together IS a big evidence ( just using common sence  )

hahaha, yeah that's what i would think but it is uscis we're talking about, they seem to not have to much of that lately

    What about your marriage certificate?

    of course!!!

oh, I have got another question here. I kept my maiden name after marriage( just liked mine better , ha-ha, ) is is a big mistake?:unsure:

The kids have his last name though. What do you think???

  13. file concurrently... you should be just fine

Thank you. I will also have to pay 1000 penalty for my expired visa, as I understat. when do I have do do that? At the same time as I file I -130 and I -485 ?

Everyone, thank you so much for your tips!!

You only need to pay the penalty if you meet ALL the conditions listed on form I-485A Pay particular attention to D.

    1. You may apply for adjustment of status to that of LPR under section 245(i) if you:

    A. Are physically present in the United States when the application is submitted; and

    B. Have an immigrant visa number immediately available; and

    C. Are admissible to the United States for permanent residence; and

    D. Are the beneficiary of an approvable-when-filed visa petition, or an application for labor certification filed on or before April 30, 2001; and

    E. Pay a $1,000 penalty fee (unless exempted).

Oh, really? That is great then, I thought that even though I entered with inspection( is it legally with visa in other words) but remained in the United States past the period of admission, I still have to fill this supplement A and pay 1000 penalty.

If not, that makes things easier (cheaper  )

  14. Firstly your profile and timeline lacks some crucial data like how did you enter the USA???

If by K-Visa you do not need to file I-130 with I-485.

If by visitor's visa (WITHOUT IMMIGRANT INTENT) then follow this guide: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...page=i130guide2

Again fill in profile details: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...rCP&CODE=01

Oh, the links are just great !! Just what I needed!

I entered US as J-1 visa holder, the bad thing is that by now it is expired  , the good thing is I am not a subjet for -two -years residency requirement. So hopefully I will still be able to adjust my status based on marriage  .

I would really appreciate mor info on cases like mine.
