  1. Any Advice?

Has anyone ever filed for I-130 for their parent, even though their biological parents weren't married? Therefor there is no marriage certificate to submit.

My husband's parents were never married and his biological mom hasn't been in the picture since he was 6 months. Hasn't had any contact with her since.

We are applying for his father and will submit a copy of my husband's birth certificate, pictures with his dad, a sworn letter testifying to the father's paternity, and a baptismal certificate.

    Will this suffice?

    Thank you for any input.

We will also submit a letter stating that my husband was raised primarily by his father and great-grandmother.

  2. Hi everyone,

I just want to say thanks to this wonderful site and all the vjers. We just went to our interview this Friday in Reno and everything went smoothly. (I think it helped that we took our 1 year old that looks just like his dad.)

The interviewing officer was very friendly. She asked the following questions.

home phone number? She just asked how we met. What kind of wedding did we have? What day was our son born? and instead of her asking us our address she said do you still live at...? Then she asked for proof of our relationship, lease, utility bills, bank statements, etc.

She did not ask for current medical exam, didn't bother to look at pictures, or 1040's and w2s. The only thing she kept was a copy of our son's birth certificate. The interview took approximately 20 mins. Thank God it's over

  3. In the first post above, part of it states, "As it turns out the post office returned our first letter as undeliverable because it was a street address and not a P.O. Box." This makes no sense to me... I've heard of FedEx or UPS not delivering to a P.O. box, but never the USPS refusing a normal street address.

Is this what you meant to write? Or, does anybody else understand the above?

(I ask because I'm about to send my letter to reschedule via USPS, and it's going to a street address. So now I'm wondering if I'm overlooking something... )

We live in a small town where we have no mail carriers. All our mail is delivered to our local post office. The first noa was addressed to our street address and the post office clerk returned it to uscis because it was not addressed to a p.o. box. This set us back about two months.

  4. After months and many phone calls later we finally recieve our first notice of action. We first filed for AOS and EAD on August 5th and had not heard anything about our case. Each time we called we were promised someone would look into our case. (We had been calling since the beginning of September.)

As it turns out the post office returned our first letter as undeliverable because it was a street address and not a P.O. Box. :ranting: My husband has missed his boimetrics appointment. We received a copy of the 1st noa and have asked to reschedule the appointment. I overnighted it to the application center just this morning. My question is about how long will they take to reschedule the appointment and for him to receive his EAD? Any insight would be greatful.

  5. Yippee We are finally out of AP. My fiancee was placed on AP after his interview in January for further processing. Then in March an attempt was made to contact him, however he was at work. My guess was just to check if he was really in Mexico, because we never heard back until just recently. They were clueless when we would call and ask why they had contacted him.

Anyway, US Embassy called us on the 16 of July telling us he had to present his passport on the 17 or by latest the 20 because his medical exam expired the 23 of July and he had to leave Mexico by then. Does this make sense to anyone???? (Not that I am complaining) I thought medical exam was valid for one year. He got his visa on Monday the 20. However, on it is a notation that says blanket waiver?? Any insight into this would be awesome.

Since then we have gotten most of our materials and paperwork ready for AOS and EAD.

Also Thank you to everyone for sharing their experiences. They have really helped me cope with the not knowing. Best of luck to everyone and hope you make it out of AP hell.

  6. My fiance was placed on ap 6 weeks ago at his interview. He was given a blue paper and a check mark placed only on the part where it says his visa could not be processed at that time. (maybe due to background check?) Since then we have been waiting patiently. As it turns out yesterday he received a call from USEM in Ciudad Juarez however he was a work. His aunt gave him the news that they had called asking for him and they also verified if it was his phone number. My question is, "Is it too soon to get our hopes up? Why else would they call?"
