  1. I'm sorry if I've posted this in the wrong place! BUT

I recently sent my fiancee all she needs for her interview in October. However the Brazilian post office is currently on strike. Has anyone experienced this before? I'm a little concerned about how long this strike might last, and the delivery of my package.

Does anyone know if the consulate will make exceptions on original documents in cases such as this? We will be calling the consulate about this, next week. But in the meantime it would really help me sleep to know how others have responded in a similar situation. Thanks!!

Of course hindsight is always 20/20, but this is a perfect illustration of why so many people advise to use a private delivery service (UPS, FedEx, DHL, etc.) when sending important papers overseas. Do not rely on the local postal system.

I take it you were unaware of the strike prior to sending the documents. Fair enough. Did you send them using a service that allows the parcel to be tracked—EMS (what the USPS calls 'Express Mail International') for example?

I have a tracking number and it left miami last week. That is the last update on my tracking page.

I am now getting my employer to make a computer "print off" of my latest payments; since the paystubs are in the mail. I am having trouble finding a DHL drop of location in my area. Jackson, MS. I will most likely re-send it all using either fedex or ups. What a hassle.

I really appreciate the comments though!

  3. Its been over 7 months now and still nothing. I've called a bunch of times and I've called my congressman's office. I recently got a letter from the Service center saying that I will receive a decision or another notice of action within 90 days.

My congressmans office had me fill out some forms and then they were going to check on the case. I talked with the congressmans office a few days later and they told me "the case is pending, but now it has a congressional flag" or something like that. Nothing really new.

I'm with the Vermont service center and i'm startin to really really disliked that place. Is anyone in a similar circumstance. I've read a few post recently about march filers expecting to hear from their service centers soon... was there something I could have done earlier in the process to have my case finished in 100 something days, like the march filers? BTY my fiance is Brazilian.

  4. Hey I really need some help with this one. We originally planned to just have a ceremony in her country and only get legally married in the USA. However her family wants a catholic wedding and their priest will not do the wedding unless we have gone to the court and made it official. We did not know this stuff a few months ago when we filed for the K1. So we have the K1 pending right now, and we will have to be legally married in Brazil before she actually uses the visa.

Can anyone help me with this? I am really confused. Thanks
