  1. I am about to mail off our packet to file an I-751. How should I write the return address section? I know there are specific things they are looking for here. I just want to make sure that I do it right. Also, does it matter what kind of metal fasteners I use to bind my documents together?? I would REALLY appreciate your help. I'm just nervous because I don't want to make any mistakes. Thanks in advance for all your help. God bless.

  2. It does not have to be notarized, but I had mine notarized just in case. As for the SSN, my husband applied for his after he received his green card, but a lot of people go & apply before doing the whole AOS thing. We were afraid to do that because we had read about it & we were afraid of hurting our AOS process, so we just waited.

Ah, one thing I will STRONGLY recommend.... when you finally do go & apply for your SSN, DO NOT give them your birth certificate!!!! My husband did that & it was the worst thing we could've done! It took a little OVER 3 MONTHS to receive his SSN because his birth certificate slowed down the process TREMENDOUSLY due to the fact that it was written in Arabic. We had the document translated by a professional in Egypt, but they refused to take our translation & said that all translations needed to be done through their department. Well, had it been in Spanish or a language which is more commonly used here in the states, well then, yeah... it wouldn't have taken sooooooooo long. I don't even remember how many times we went back to the SS office to get status updates & to file a complaint. EVENTUALLY (after 3 LOOONG MONTHS), my husband received his card in the mail thank God. :) The process should have only taken 2 WEEKS, but since we took in his birth certificate & presented it to the SS officer, they had to process it with THEIR TRANSLATION. The woman who processed our application told us after almost 3 months, that it would've been processed immediately if he had ONLY shown her his passport & said that he didn't have his birth certificate. STUPID right, I know! However, that's what happened to us so just be careful with that. Oh & don't worry....... the AOS journey is sooooooooo easy compared to the K-1 journey. :D I'm so glad that your long journey is over, Mohamed. :D I wish you all the happiness in the world in your marriage. :D Once again, congratulations, my friend. :D God bless!

  3. Good luck on your AOS interview tomorrow! Hope everything goes well. We had our AOS interview this past January & it went super well, THANK GOD FOR EVERYTHING! :) Yours will go well too! As far as our clothing, well we wore like what you would wear to church or to a wedding. My husband wore a long-sleeved shirt with a tie & slacks with dressy black shoes. (No suit though) I wore a very simple skirt (mid-calf length) & a nice blouse. In my opinion I feel more comfortable dressing the way you would for a job interview. I know that not everyone cares about their dress attire for that day, but we certainly did because it was a VERY IMPORTANT day for us. It's honestly up to you. :) I've never heard of them denying someone based on their clothing. I've heard of people getting approved with regular jeans & stuff, but I've also heard of others who were frowned upon because of their clothing. Either way, just wear what you want. Just make sure you all have ALL your paperwork in order. The more evidence you have to prove that your marriage is real, the better it is for your case. Go over the practice questions that are found here on VisaJourney. They are very good, & although we didn't need them for our interview, they have asked those same questions to other people on their interview. Good luck & may God be with you both tomorrow. :) You all will do just fine. ;)

Going to the interview tomorrow!

What to wear for the AOS interview based on marriage? Is a business suit too "formal"? Is jeans too casual? My husband said he is just gonna wear normal clothes(polo shirt, shorts, shoes not flip flops) Does this sound ok?

What did you wear for the interview?

  4. ** READ THIS POST... I couldn't delete the first post when I was editing it. Sorry. :) **

My husband's SS card took 3 MONTHS to arrive in the mail!!!! We got the green card FASTER than the SS#!!! A lot of it depends on where your spouse was born & the language of his/her birth certificate. My husband was born in Egypt so his birth certificate was in Arabic. They do not accept outside translations. We were told it would take 1 month & it took a little over 3 months & A LOT of bugging them until we FINALLY got it. From personal experience, I would just wait. You can't do ANYTHING without a SS # anyway. They are VERY unpredictable with the time-frame!!!! Hope yours doesn't take as long as my husband's did. Good luck & HAVE PATIENCE!

  6. From personal experience, it is not a good idea to set a wedding date until you have the visa in hand, We ended up having to change our wedding date and we lost some of our deposits as a result. I would wait if I were you. Good luck with everything & I hope you get your visa soon! :) They are VERY unpredictable with dates!!!!

  7. The overall processing time for us from filing to visa in hand took 1 year. Once you file there is a long bumpy road ahead of you, but eventually you will both get through it. You just need to have faith & it will all be worth it in the end. :) Best of luck to you both! :D

  8. Congratulations, SandMan2008! My husband just received his greencard today, too! Plus, he's from Egypt, too!

I got my green card today in the mail after looong tiring journey.....

For all those who were asked to do another medical.

If you look in the instructions for the I-693 medical form section 3 part 2 it states if you came on K-1 or K-3 visa and had medical examination in your country before you came to the US and you have filed for your AOS within a year of that medical examination you ARE NOT REQUIRED to do another medical.

I just thought to share this with everyone because i know it cost money and time.

  9. Hey RebeccaAndPhil,

I just got a text message on my phone about 5 minutes ago telling me that our status was updated. Anyway, I went on-line & checked & they barely put an update that we were approved & that a welcome notice had been sent today!!!! Hello?!?!??!?!?!?! Seems like they're a little behind on the updating, huh?:bonk::P

Well that is good to know b/c we still don't have any online updates & we're waiting for the welcome letter and GC too!
  10. Thanks everyone!!! :D

xdream39-----> No, actually the USCIS website still shows no updates since December 31, 2009. I've learned not to rely too much on those updates because they aren't very accurate. I still check it all the time, but i just don't let it get to me when I don't see any changes.

    hey congrats!!!

Also, I know u said earlier that there were no status updates for you prior to receiving the approval letter. Did you receive any now, or did the status change online? Thanks for answering!
