  1. Hi VJ People,

We had our AOS interview May 5th and we passed, Praise God!, we even recieved a letter welcoming my wife into the country. The only problem is that they told us that we should expect to recieve out Green Card in about three weeks or so and it is going on a month now, is this anything to be concerned about or should we expect them to be late? Any advice from Anyone with experience in this would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Ben and Hazel

  2. Hi VJ people,

We applied for an name change on our social security card after our marriage, we haven't received the newer one yet but we were wondering if the number on the new card will remain the same as the number on the old card. we would like to start using the number but we're worried that the new card will come with a different number. Can anyone help us out with this please?

    Thanks,

    Ben and Hazel

  3. Hi VJ People,

My sweet wife and I are in the process of filing our AOS, and everything is going along fairly well, except for the requirements on the medical, there seems to be a lot of different opinions on how to handle this, so we've decided to just send in what we already have and take an RFE, at least we'd get a straight answer as to what our state requires, although it may mean another setback, this isn't going to be nearly as painful as when we we're apart, I've already got my my girl, so whats the worst that can happen?

    Thanks,

    Ben and Hazel

  4. Hi VJ People,

My wife and I are in the process of putting together our AOS packet, and everything looks pretty good so far, except for the medical portion, between the Civil surgeons and some of the advice we've been reading, it's not really clear to us exactly what is required of us in our state. So, we were just going to send in the DS-3025 vaccination supplement, as is, and hope for the best, we figure the worst that can happen is that we'd just have to take an RFE, but at least that would tell us exactly what is required of us . Since I already have my girl, the delay won't be as difficult as it was when we were apart. Can anyone out there tell us if this would be a good approach to take on this? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Ben and Hazel

  6. Hey VJ people,

My fiance wants to contact her family in the Philippines on a regular basis. Her family doesn't have any internet access other than the internet cafe, and we've been told that an international calling card is the best way to go. Is there anyone who can offer advice on who offers the best card for this?

    Thanks,

    Ben

  7. Yeap, invest in a computer for the home and pay for them to get and maintain high speed internet. My fiancee is in the US now, but her computer that I gave to her is still in her room in Iloilo so her family can keep in touch easily. Going to the internet cafe isn't convenient long term and it gets expensive and phone calls are expensive. Also, the phone doesn't allow for a cam and to share photos.

That's awesome advice, we are going to have to look into that.

    Thanks,

    Ben

I used to use Yahoo Messenger, there is a phone option that worked fine.

Yea, it looks look it save us money

    Thanks,

    Ben

    Hey VJ People,

My fiance wants to keep in touch with her family back home in the Philippines, What is the smartest (cheapest) way to do this on a regular basis?

    Thanks,

    Ben

get a magic jack. go to www.magicjack.com and that will give you more information. there is a retailer here in the philippines already and you can ask them to buy it from here. not over 3k pesos. PM me and il give you the retailers cell number. i have one here and it works perfectly fine. all of my family in different city and provinces has one. since we get a mainland phone number, you (in the US) can call it just like calling another state. you can bring the magic jack anywhere. the thing is they would need to be online for you to call them anytime and for them to call you also. you dont need to be online for them to call you bec they can call your cell in the US or your landline for free. thats calls to US and canada for free. hope this helps.

Yea, we need to look into that too. But I think we'd better get them a computer first.

    Thanks,

    Ben

magic jack retailer in the philippines? hhhmmm...i wanted to get one for my house and get another one and send it to my husband in the philippines but i would have to end up paying 20$ yearly for both phones which is 40$ each year...but then i guess it is unlimited...please give me the number of the retailer of magic jack in the philippines...maybe my husband can go see how it really works over there. we have internet at home but it would be nice if he called thru magic jack to my verizon cellphone in the us without being charged per minute!

Sounds like, where the smart money is.

    Thanks,

    Ben

I think Skype have the cheapest rate and most consistent.

    http://www.skype.com/prices/callrates/

I definitely need to look into that.

    Thanks,

    Ben

That looks like the way to go.

Also, you can use Yahoo messenger to make calls on the internet (thru their Yahoo! voice). Been using this since last year...it's great !!

Plus she has a little sister who is probably interested in the internet too.

    Thanks,

    Ben

  9. Perhaps they meant to say (or should have said) "Be sure to file for AOS" not CR1/IR1.

    Dear Karin und Otto,

It sounds like you've been through this, that really clears things up for us.

    Thanks,

    Ben

Only file for AOS after marriage.

    Dear Old Dominion,

Thanks for the advice, that really helps out.

  10. Hi VJ,

My fiance and I took the K-1 route to get married. after receiving our visa she went to the CFO and they gave her some things that she needed to do after she arriving in the states. One of the things that they told her to do was to make certain that she filed the CR-1/IR-1. I don't remember reading anything about this in the K-1 process. Can anyone tell us if this has anything to do with us?

    Very Confused,

    Ben

they are both visas.... that is about it...

    Dear Payxibka,

Oh so, they just assumed we were in a different visa class?

    Thanks,

    Ben

Most people in RP don't know much about the immigration process. CR/IR doesn't relate to her/you other than when she adjusts status she will be a CR.

    Dear Haole,

Thanks for the reply, that adds a little more clarity.

    Thanks again,

    Ben

  13. Hey VJ People,

Is there anyone out there who has had experience in this matter? My fiance received her visa in the mail, Praise GOD, and on my name they inverted two letters, instead of Benjamin they spelled it, Benajmin. Is this a serious enough problem that we would have to go back to the embassy to correct? My fiance is really stressing out about this, which means I am really stressing out about this, "Happy wife = Happy life" Ha Ha, any advice is more than appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Ben

  14. Hi VJ People,

Hey, can you guys help us out? My fiance got her visa in the mail today, "Glory to GOD!" and she noticed that they had inverted two letters in my name, not hers. She also read on the visa where it said,"If the personal data is wrong you need to go back to the embassy for corrections" To do this would be a huge inconvenience on us. I just can't imagine them rejecting her at the POE over something as trivial as this. The delivery man and myself think that they would be mainly concerned with her info and not mine. Is there anyone out there who can shed some light on this for us? You have always been there for us VJ.

    Thanks again,

    Ben

There was also an error of one letter in my husband's address under the Annotation.I went back to the US Embassy and reported the error.I was told that since it's just in Annotation then it is just a minor error. They didn't correct it and was told that what is important is the information about me is correct. They told me that the Immigration Officer at my POE will be able to verify it in their system and in the information contained in the brown packet. It was not an issue at my POE.

    Hi KC♥MP,

Awesome, Thanks for sharing your experience, we really needed that good news.

    Thanks again,

    Ben

  15. i had the same situation as you are before. it wasnt the spelling but they added more name into my hubby's (the petitioner) full name... i believe that's under the "intonation"... e.g: my hubby's name is Ron M Fitz, but in the intonation it stated that his name is RON M. FITZ RON (doubled the name)... i panicked of course and raised this up to the forum and to ray bacon (the one who helped us arrange our papers) and he said that for as long as my name (the beneficiary) is correct then it should be fine... and it did... though i am not positive for the spelling "issue"... i guess its best to call the embassy and hopefully they will say that its ok... since the rest of the packet is in your correct name, and hoping the poe will just understand the "clerical error per se" good luck

    God bless!!!

    Hi RonMay,

Thanks for that reply, you have comforted me and more importantly my fianc'e with your experience in this. This whole process has been an emotional roller coaster ride for us Ha Ha.

    Thanks again,

Obviously it would be better to have it correct. Bigger inconvenience would be to get turned around at the POE.

    Hi Haole,

We had better play it safe.

Not to correct that asap would be a bigger inconvenience IMO. :)

    Hi Jose Rizal,

Yea, I agree, the consequences wouldn't be worth it.

    Thanks,

    Ben
