The federal government now has those machines, called computers. If a federal agent enters the passport number shown on the non-notarized photocopy of a passport you provided, it will tell them everything they ever wanted to know about you and then some.
Funnily enough, I'm aware of those machines. I happen to be on one right now. Just so happens the government has required me to get things notarized in the past... I guess we've come a long way from 2 years ago!

great! just what i wanted to hear!

I'm in the midst of getting my I-751 together and noticed they want copies of my passport and green card. Do I need to get those things notarized? (or any other evidence for that matter) I didn't see anything in the guide or on the USCIS website, but I want to make sure!

My husband and I are traveling back to Australia this year to visit my family. Last May we got married and I later received my Green Card with conditions. I am unsure about what name I should put on my tickets. I am using my husband's name here, but I won't be able to change my name on my passport or other documents until after I am back in Oz. I presume others have been faced with the same issue. What should I do? I will be taking my marriage certificate with me to change my name in Australia, if that makes a difference?

I went into the DMV today with the ID requirement document that payxibka kindly found for me. We had a bit of trouble initially because I couldn't find my old temporary permit. They looked up my social security number, but I didn't show up on the system. The lady that helped us eventually got to speak to a real person at the Department of Revenue who said they would give me another 60 day temporary drivers permit and they would confirm I was adjusting my status with immigration and send me out a proper license. We waited around for around 15 minutes for my temporary permit to be faxed to the office. When it got there, not only had they spelled my name wrong, but they said they would not issue me a proper license! So it turns out that until I actually get a green card in my hands, I will have to go in every 60 days and get a new temporary driving permit. I am so frustrated. I never realized moving to America would be fraught with this much stupidity and bureaucracy!

- You won't get your I-94 extended (so count that out).
- EAD is not a visa nor proof of legal status and is not enough in many states to obtain/extend a DL.
- In many states (MO may be one of them) you'll need the PR/Green Card in hand (some, and MO may not be one of them, will accept the NOA1 for the I-485 as proof).
It is inconsistent - each state has its own ID/residency requirements.

Applicants for adjustment of status
Immigration documentation indicating status, and One of the following:
• Employment Authorization Document I-688B or I-766
• Passport
Thanks! That helps a lot! The lady at the drivers license office obviously didn't know what she was talking about.

My drivers license expired a couple of weeks ago because my I-94 expired while I was in the midst of adjusting my status and applying for an EAD. I called the Drivers License office in Missouri to find out if My EAD (which has just been approved) would suffice as a new visa. They said that I would need a new I-94. Is that true? If it is, how on earth do I get a new I-94? Wouldn't my EAD be considered a valid visa? Please help, this is yet another confusing situation that I'm having difficulty comprehending!

You can put her married name on the AOS.
I also came over on a K1 Visa and was able to change my name at the Social Security office. I just brought my marriage license as well as ID and they were able to change it on the spot. I'm not sure why your wife was not able to change her name.

Oh, I need to add that I only have 60 days to submit the "correct documentation" and I don't think I will have my EAD by then!

Just recently, I sat for and received my driver license in Missouri. I was given a paper one and told that my card would turn up in the mail the next 60 days as the Drivers License Bureau would need to confirm that I was a legal immigrant. They took copies of my visa and I-94 before I left.
Yesterday a letter arrived telling me that I need to submit a non-expired I-94 before I can receive my license. At the time I got my license it was valid, but since then it has expired. I have filed for my AOS. I called them to find out what on earth I should do and I was told to get new documentation from Immigration Services.
What documentation would I need and how would I go about getting it?!

Wonderful! That makes sense! Thanks for your help!

I noticed in the adjustment of status package that I need to send in that it asks for an I-864 Affidavit of Support. Does that mean that my husband needs to fill out a new one or can he use the I-134 affidavit of support that we used to get my K-1 Visa?
Also, just another stupid little side question: is it me (the immigrant) who has to file for my adjustment of status or my husband?
I apologize if these questions are ridiculous.
Thanks!

I am totally confused about how to change my name and if or when it should be done.
I have just got married and would like to change my last name to my husband's and have it changed on my passport. Should and can I do this? Do I need to keep my old passport with my maiden name and K1 Visa in it so I can apply for my adjustment of status, or is it alright to have a new passport with my married name and no K1 Visa in it?
Or should I change my name after I have my visa and then have my visa and passport reissued in my married name?
Or should I even bother at all?
HELP!!!

Great. Thank you so much! I will talk to my fiance about it and see if he has it. Or if it at least looks familiar! Hopefully we're not forking out for a new one. :-/

My fiance and I are not married yet. But I have decided to start looking through all the requirements for my adjustment of status. I noticed that I am required to submit a copy of our NOA2 "approval" for I-129F. I can't find it and I have no idea what it looks like. When would we have been given the NOA2? It wouldn't have been in the package that I had to give to immigration on my arrival would it? Sorry, these are probably very silly questions! I just want to make sure I have everything right.
The NOA2 would have been sent in the mail to the USC petitioner shortly before you received packet 3 from your embassy. It was definitely not in the package you gave to immigration! And yes, you will need it for AOS. I hope you can find it; I believe the charge fora replacement is about $400
Holy Moley! I'm going to have to get cracking and find it. I don't ever remember seeing one before. Our whole application process was a nightmare! It wouldn't have been sent to our lawyer would it? She had a habit of not passing on information.

I am in the process of booking my tickets to the US. Just wondering if anyone can tell me how long to allow between the international leg and the domestic leg? Is it the normal 2hrs or do I need to allow for more time to get through immigration with my K1 visa?

I'm getting really down about this whole visa process. We hired a lawyer to help us with everything and she's turned out to be more of a problem than a help. She was sitting on our packet three for about 8 weeks before she sent them to us (that was after several unreturned phone calls and emails). We ended up contacting the consulate only to find out she'd had it for all that time and had not bothered forwarding it.
Then when we do get packet three I thought things would improve. I was very wrong. We didn't understand the Affidavit of Support, our lawyer and her office help gave us wrong information and we had a hard time finding answers online or from the consulate. We've now just sent in packet three with an Affidavit of Support that may not pass and I'm a little concerned about if I'll get my visa.
I was also hoping that Danny, my fiance, would be in Australia for the interview. But I've just looked at simliar timelines and found that they have already been given packet 4 and their interview date (we haven't yet) and their interview is for the date Danny has to leave to go back to the U.S.
I really just wish something would go right for once. This whole process has been an absolute nightmare. Has anyone else had so much trouble?

My fiance and I have had trouble with our attorney too. She also originally sent our petition to the Nebraska Service Centre. Though I doubt it made a substantial difference to our overall filing time.
The biggest mistake she made however, was when she didn't bother forwarding on our packet three until 8 weeks after she recieved it. (and that was also after 2 weeks of phone calls and emails!!!) We definately won't be using an attorney for my Adjustment of Status. We'll save our money!
Good luck with your situation. I truly hope you can sort it out.

So I am another K1 Applicant who will be marrying a poor American university student. Just need to check which affidavit of support my fiance's dad needs to fill out.
As I mentioned, my fiance is a university student and hasn't earned any money in the past fiscal year. I believe he has been a dependent for tax purposes, although he does not live at home with his parents. Does that mean his dad is required to fill out I-864A or does he need to fill out I-864 because my fiance can't meet the income asset requirements?
Sorry. That was a bit complicated!

That's fine! Easy mistake to make. I'd hate to think how many typos i've made on this thing!
Am getting my passport photos done today! Hope I don't look like a stunned deer in headlights (I often do!) lol

Waiting on Oath Ceremony
in US Citizenship General Discussion
Posted
I went in for my interview on January 14th. Everything went well and they said they were recommending me for citizenship. on January 21st, my status was updated on the USCIS website and said I had been placed in a queue for the oath ceremony. Since then, I have not heard anything. Is it normal to wait this long? I tried calling the National Customer Service Center, but had little success. They said my receipt number was too short and I was not able to get through to a person.
My question is, is it still to early to freak out? I am getting a little impatient. I just want to be a citizen already.
