  1. I am preparing to mail my N-400 documents (based on 5 year residency) and I found different information on N-400 Instructions and Document Checklist; where in the N-400 Instructions i need to submit

"Photocopy of your Current Legal Marital Status Document. Provide a photocopy of your current marriage certificate, divorce, annulment decree, or death certificate of former spouse"

However in Document Checklist, I need to submit those only when I am applying on the base of 3 year marriage.

So do i need to mail copy of marriage certificate and divorce decree along with 5-year based N-400?

    Thanks in advance!

  2. Hello, perhaps a stupid question but I just want to be sure:

I am married with an American and I have been a green card holder for 5 years since last month. I know I could have applied for citizenship based on 3 years marriage but god knows why I have been putting it off!

Now i think i am ready to become a US citizen!

My question is: should I apply based on marriage (3 years) or based on the regular 5 years rule?

Just to be clear so I know what documents to prepare.

    Thank you in advance!

  3. Ok, i finally went to infopass appointment this morning. The IO whom I talked to about this case was a very nice person. I explained my concern about the different Alien number on my I-551. He looked at my passport and he said yes this is wrong. He was also surprised I was not given notice paper right after the interview that stated my green card application was approved. Apparently the IO who interviewed me made some mistake. Oh that is another story about her and my interview (I will write on CIS office review).

Then he took my passport, asked me to wait while he sorted it out. He put another stamp on my wrong stamp that said "Cancelled Without Prejudice" and put a new stamp with the right A number. I could not thank him enough!!!! I was so happy.

So my advice here is: always check your stamp (if you got I-551 stamp) before you get out of the interview room and make sure they write your A# right.

  4. That does sound like it could cause a problem. Make an InfoPass appointment at the local USCIS office where you did the interview. They should let you make an appointment to go down there, and get the passport notation and (more importantly) the computer notes that CBP sees when they swipe your passport corrected and properly annotated.

Thanks! Is infopass better than calling National Service Center?

  5. Hi,

I just got approved at the interview and the IO stamped I-551 on my passport because I am going back to my country next week. At home when I checked again, I noticed that the A# on I-551 is different than my A#. It's just one number wrong. So i am worried now if she wrote the wrong A# on my I-551?

What should I do? Will I get problem at the airport immigration?

Please help i am panicking!!!!

  6. Hi, I wanna know what sort of ID do you have with you to carry around? Do you carry around your passport?

I just did my biometrics and I may get my EAD card within a month (so they say).

I don't have SSN yet because i was late applying. I plan to apply for it when i get my EAD.

Will i get an ID after i apply for SSN? plan to get my driver licence too but for now... Can EAD card be used as ID?

Thanks and have a nice holidays all!

  7. I wondered about this as well, since my fiancée is a licensed teacher with a Master's degree. I was hoping this would work in her favor, as a professional with a relatively high education for her country.

What is the term I've heard used? "Totality of circumstances," which means that any information could assist or impede the case, depending on what it states and how the reader interprets it.

All the best on your journey.

Yes, i also have a Master's degree and a good profession. I was just hoping that this would matter a bit in determining approval. But i guess it is slight chance,huh?...The thing is, i have everything ok but i use co-sponsors. I'm so worried that the consulate would make it a problem but perhaps seeing that i have degree it may become a consideration factor (not that it helps anything in this bad recession...).

    Well, let's see...
