I became a US citizen last Friday. I can say now that my journey with USCIS has ended here. Thank you everyone for being part of our journey. I am hoping for all the best to those who are still in their journey with the USCIS and good luck!

You can print out your tax transcripts right off your computer from IRS website. If you do this, print out the account transcripts instead of return transcripts or you can print both. I've read here somewhere that account transcripts might have amended tax information on it.

Tax transcripts are acceptable and most preferred tax documents.

I would suggest to put "YES" in regards to that question. Answering "YES" does not mean denial, they just want to make sure that you filed your tax returns. I looked up the form., it says there if your answered YES, did you consider yourself a "non-resident? I'm sure that the answer here is "NO". During your interview, if this question comes up, tell the interviewing officer about the reason for not filing your tax returns.

Did you get paid during your summer internship? If not, then put NO. Just a thought.

Update:

Today, I received an email from my local office with my oath letter attached to it that I was scheduled for my oath this 15th of August after IO told me to wait for 30-45 days during my interview. The letter said that my oath letter will be mailed out today to my address and if I did not receive the letter before Thursday morning, I need to print the attachment invitation letter for the oath ceremony.

I sent a letter to my local office on Thursday ( delivered last Friday) requesting to have me included in one of two ceremonies for this month. In my letter, I told them that " this may not be enough reason but I want to register to vote on this coming election after I become a U.S citizen and before my school will start by the end of this month." Which all are true.

I wasn't sure if my letter to my local field office did the process much faster but I am happy that my journey with USCIS will be soon over.

Updates:

I had my interview yesterday at 1:15 pm and everything went well. First, the IO called my name at 1:30 pm and had me sworn to tell the truth and she went over my application. As she verified my response to her questions, at one point, she tried to pronounce my wife's name "wrong". I wasn't sure if her intention was to test me but anyways, I corrected her. After the yes or no questions, she proceeded to reading and writing. She asked me to read " Who elects the congress?", and told me to write " The people elects the congress."

Civil questions were:

1. Who wrote the Constitution?

2. Who is the commander in chief of the United States?

3. What party is the president now?

4. What are the two political parties in the United States?

5. Name one state that border's Mexico.

6. Name three of 13 original colonies.

I got them all right. she made me read the oath silently and asked me if I have any questions before signing my application. Also, she asked me to sign my 2" x 2" photos that I sent along with my application and a piece of paper that has my information on it and asked me to verify if everything was correct. Lastly, she handed me a piece of paper that I passed the civic test and she was recommending me for approval and told me to wait for my oath letter to arrive in mail between 30-45 days.

I am hoping that my oath letter will arrive soon. Looking forward.

Hi! On part 9, question 8.. How many times has your current spouse been married? She was just married to me. Do we put 1 or 0 on the box? And do we still need to fill out the sub questions? Like the prior spouse's family name? Etc

Hi! In just stuck with he selective service question. I became resident of US when i was 24. Im already 27.. And i didnt know anything about selective service, that i had to register or something. And its asking for a written explanation. Any idea what to put? Thanks!

I have no idea what type of explanation you have to put in but what I can tell you is., call the selective service and verify if you have been registered. When I applied for my green card they automatically registered me to selective service. Who knows maybe when you applied for your driver's license you checked a box that says to register you to selective service. Just a thought.

Do i really need to apply for passport after citizenship?

It's up to you. But if you want to travel abroad, it's a good idea to apply for US passport for your convenience.

Hi guys, I would like to know if minors below 18 of age(14 and 16) are require to secure a travel clearance from DSWD before flying to USA? I called the Philippine airlines and they said that they required minors to present clearance to travel and both notarized letter from parents allowing minors to travel alone. My problem is, the DSWD clearance to travel. Before PDOS, my in-law went to DSWD office to obtain the clearance, but he was told that minors are not require to secure a clearance to travel abroad since they have an immigrant visa, which they have. So they went to attend their PDOS in Manila and they have no problem with it, so they were given a PDOS sticker in their passport. Again, I called PAL several times, and they keep saying that they need a clearance to travel from DSWD and I keep telling them that DSWD said that they don't need a clearance to travel abroad since they have an immigrant visa. I guessed, Philippine airlines is not informed about this type of issue because they keep saying that per PAL they need a clearance to travel for minors. I don't know what to do. I already booked their flights and they're flying this Saturday. Any experience?

When I filed the DS260 I didn't include the middle name in the given name's portion. I overlokked at the instruction regarding given name. 101% sure for a checklist.

There was a post here before regarding the same problem " forgot to include middle name in the DS260." If your passport has your middle name included on it, then, yes you have to put it in there or otherwise. Based on the information that I've read regarding this issue, you can resolve this problem by doing this.., update your DS261 first, then this will allow you to update your DS260 ( if not updated automatically after updating your DS261). I don't know if you used DS261 or DS3032 for your choice of agent. If you used DS260, try my suggestion. Hope this will help.

I just want to ask if an older sister of the minor applicants can accompany them during thier interview at Manila. The applicants are 13 and 16 years old. Any input or suggestion is greatly appreciated.

Hello Mam, i have a question... after AOS fee and it appeared PAID on CEAC, do we have to wait for an instructions from NVC thru mail, does they send instructions on what to do next?.. i'm confused... what to do next after AOS payment?.. please advice.. thanks..

You don't have to wait for the next instructions from NVC. As long as you paid your AOS fee you can mail your affidavit of support application along with the supporting documents like pay stubs, letter of employment, form I-864, tax transcripts from 2010, 2011, and 2012 and W2's. Don't forget to print the cover sheet of your AOS from online and include this on top of your AOS packets.

I also have no 2012 Tax since i didnt have any job and i also gave them an explanation letter with attached irs publication 17. BUT in my AOS form i made some notations using a pencil. explained again that I dont have any itr.

Income, just to justify your computation, an attached employment letter was again attached.

in itr columns wherein they are asking for the details of your last 3 recent years, again i made some notations.

Sometimes it helps to make some notations so that they are aware of your income status and reasons why you are not ticking or filling up an item. There are some items that it really requires that you have to answer thats why it is so confusing sometimes .

And i think it also helps that you have document tabs to indicate what kind of document it is so its easier for them to pull out the document for reference.

Is it crucial to include publication 17 when writing a letter of explanation for not filing tax returns? I'm just curious.

Dears , I now paid the IV fees (Still in progress) , but tell now I didn't sent any paper to NVC or print the cover sheets of AOS or IV .

For the meantime, you (petitioner) need to fill up form I-864 (AOS) and send it along with supporting documents such as 6 months pay stubs, letter of employment, tax transcripts for 2010, 2011, and 2012(can be requested online at irs.gov), W-2's (2010, 2011, and 2012). Make sure you print the cover sheet for your AOS and put it on top of your AOS documents. This is all depend on whether you're using co-sponsor or not.

Also, while you're waiting for your DS261 to be accepted, gather the required civil documents from the beneficiary such as marriage certificate, birth certificate, passport biographic page, 2x2 visa photo, police certificate. Make photocopies of each original documents and send each copy along with the original docs.

You can send your AOS documents ahead of time while you're waiting for the DS261 to be accepted. Then later, you can send your civil documents and fill up the visa application for beneficiary online (DS260).

If everything is good to go, expect NVC to review your AOS and visa application within 20-30 business days.

Hi guys, I would like to ask if it's imperative for a minor child to affix his/her signature on his/her passport? When my brother-in-law ( 13 yr old) applied for his passport, he didn't affix his signature on his passport and the DFA didn't even bother to ask him or notice it.. I wasn't sure if he is required to sign it because the new Philippine passport now is signed electronically and his was empty. I'll try to call DFA this coming Monday to ask about this but for the meantime any input is really appreicated.

Called NVC today! I have not asked any question and the operator keeps on talking then he said.... Your CASE WAS COMPLETED last October 17!

NVC received our AOS checklist on the 23rd of September and entered on their system on 25th of September. I called early this morning and NVC operator confirmed that case was completed yesterday.

Call NVC again to make sure that you got the case# and invoice # correctly. Once confirmed, log in again. Good luck!
