  1. The child can enter the US as many times as they wish and travel within the US until they turn 21. Then they lose their legal status with no way to adjust it to permanent resident. What some do is obtain student visas. Some eventually marry a USC and adjust. The others go home or become illegals.

wow, that's interesting. where is the point in issuing the visa at all?

    See bold above.

hm... in my eyes, you offered me a social explanation, and not a legal one I actually asked for. I do not think that the us authorities issue the visa in order that the child gets the opportunity to marry an us citizen?! do you know what I mean?

  2. hey, people, I need your help! my question in the topic title is more a rhethoric one. it seems to me that everyone knows that nonimmigrant visa applicants are not required to obtain any vaccines before the issuance of their K3 visa. everyone except of the doctor who does the medical examination here in vienna! even after a small research, he is convinced that me and my son have to get the vaccines. do not get me wrong: I am totally PRO vaccines and my son gets immunized according to the austrian immunization schedule (he got even some vaccines more than required or paid by the state, as it was my wish to know him immunized against some rare, but dangerous deseases). BUT i find it horrible that he has to get 3 vaccines (varicella, hep A, flu) at once, and he is only 17 months old. our interview is in 2 weeks and the vaccines should be done by then. he will get those vaccines, that is what i have planned even before the medical test, but not in one day!!! I have relied on the information that no vaccines will be required, so we did not go for the varicella vaccination yet (only for example). I thought there is enough time...

what can I do? should I talk to an embassy officer and ask him/her to talk to the doctor? or is it possible that the us embassy in vienna does require the vaccination even for the nonimmigrant visa applicants?

tnanks for every advice in advance.

  3. Several people with VWP came without any problems, many times. My husband came without problems before we got married. Once we got married, they denied him entry. Of course, he told them he was visiting his wife, which was not the right thing to do. So if you're coming with a baby...I don't know about that. Do you have other family or friends you can say you're visiting? If you do, then I would tell them that.

    thanks for the info!

i just do not get it! what is this VWP for if they treat us like potential illegal immigrants? i always thought VWP is based on the fact that citizens of the participating high-income countries have enough financial and social security in their homeland so they should not wish to emigrate. i have been 2x in the US and every entry was so full of tensions and suspicion, that i felt like i came off the board of an african plane or something. i do not know, if it was not for my husband, i sometimes think i would never wish to come to the US. he visits us here in the EU every now and then and is always treated nicely at the EU border. we do not have to make plans what to tell the officers at the entry, if he is going to hide that he is married to an austrian, etc... because they do not really ask and i do not know if they even care. they just let him pass!

    sigh. :)

  4. OK, I updated it. I didn't look at the spreadsheets because not everyone is on them. Also, I put the VJ'ers that I remembered because they've been active in posting. But now we've got the majority of regulars here, I think!

 narina, i did not want to bother you, i just felt it would be nice to add mamalou to your list because she seems to be really sad these days and i think that she needs the positive energy of your little group.

considering the fact that i am only a post lurker:), i could not expect to be put on the list myself. i mentioned my case here just because it is one more irrational decision from the VSC: they approved the dependent and ignored the principal case. and do they expect the baby to travel in his own?! whatever...

  5. After all waiting, I took the decision to wait on my approve here in US. Now we are togehter and I fly back to Sweden when its time for the interview. Its feel great to be together again! I wish you all here a Good Christmas!

hey, cris11, can you tell me about your US entry? what questions did they ask you? did you have to tell them about your visa petitions? any "stupid" comments that made you feel uncomfortable? how i wish i could go to the US for a visit. my country is a participant in the VWP too, but i just cannot take the risk to be turned back home because my baby would be with me of course...2 long distance flights in 2 days...imagine that stress for such a little person...
