Thank you so much for your replies, I'm not so worried anymore. It is possible!
-
I've just received my Green Card and we would like to travel to Japan this spring which should be no problem. Still my passport is on my maiden name and the Embassy ceased processing any applications for renewal of passports for the moment .
Is it possible to travel like this + marriage certificate? Should there be any problem? Has anyone else been in this situation?
-
I was in the same situation as you and we've been to Hawaii for our honeymoon - no problem at all

Congrats Stepha!! Its about time!!!
Thank you so much! It's a great present for my birthday tomorrow
-
I received a sms early this morning saying my EAD has been touched, I thought: well, just another touch....but guess what: I GOT APPROVED!!!!! I can't believe it. They approved it yesterday. And my AP too.
Is it all because I contacted the senator? Who knows?
I'm waiting for the Green Card now.
Yuppie!!
-
My GC and AP have just been touched, no change in their status, but at least I know they actually looked at my file ( I hope ) I pray to get my approvals by tomorrow, because otherwise, there were some useless touches....
-
Stepha, I am very sorry for this!
I am waiting also. If it makes you feel better, I filed for AOS 8 months ago and still no GC!
Hang in there, good news should arrive soon for you!
I see in your signature FBI checks, I didn't know they do this again, after they checked us already for the I-129F. So I'm starting to believe that my name does match some bad reputation name and this is holding me back. Anyway, they don't do their job correctly as I am entitled to an interim EAD and I'll determined to contact our senator. My husband tells me I put too much hope into this but what else can I do?
Good luck to you too juliava and hope you'll soon have our approvals
-
Nobody mentioned an interim EAD although I'm entitled.
I heard about people getting their GC approved and skipping the EAD but with my luck I'll probably get stuck again. And my file has been transferred in September, I stopped hoping this transfer would mean a faster approval.

I don't have any advice for you but wow I remember how long it took you just to get your NOA2 on your K-1. I hope this all gets resolved quickly for you.
Yes, it took forever with the K1 and it's the same with my green card....I have no idea why. Am I so unlucky? Are they lazy and the extra investigation is an excuse? I'll never find out and it's more frustrating when you can do nothing about it or get no answer to your questions....

What is going on????? Am I such a threat to this society that they really need to double check on me each and every time?!!!!!!
I applied for my GC & EAD in August and I still don't have them. I've just received an e-mail reply to my service request:
"We are actively processing this case. However, we have to perform additional review on this case and this has caused a longer processing time. If you do not receive a decision or other notice of action from us within 6 months of this letter, please call customer service at the number provided below."
6 months?! 6 months?!
I got through the same with the fiancee visa, what do they check??!!! What do I do next? When should I contact a senator? Really, what's their problem with me? I'm fed up with staying at home and being a housewife....

you guys are just a couple weeks from your 90 days mark so hopefully it comes through soon. I had sent off my packet Aug 12 and I finally got my EAD last week even though I was starting to worry seeing others who filed way after me going through, so hopefully they process you all soon so you don't have to spend the time making an infopass.
I pray you are right MrG and thank you for your words, it's good when you receive hope from someone else who was in your shoes. So, mae232, let's keep our fingers crossed!
-
The USCIS can take up to 90 days or longer to issue the EAD. If you have an RFE then the time for the RFE will delay the process. Sometimes K1 filing for AOS will get the green card quickly and no EAD or AP will be issued.
If you do not receive your EAD by November 16th (90 days) you can schedule an infopass and ask for an interim EAD.
Thank you edp333 for your answer. I will schedule an infopass if there will be nothing going on for me till the 90 days expire.

I'm an August filer still waiting for my EAD approval, it's starting to drive me crazy , I guess I'm the last August filer still on hold. I'm just curious if you know what they check this time, what can be the thing holding me back?
I had the same problem with our K1, after the RFE we waited like forever to get our approval. Do they perform again security checks?

I'm starting to get worried: how long do I still have to wait till the approval of my EAD?
-
We filed first week of August, done with biometrics and now waiting for approval, hopefully no more interview. Our case now is pending in the office which it was transferred.Hi,
my question is Are there any August filers? We filed in august got biometrics done 10 days ago. what happens next? Is there anybody who didn't get their NOA 1 yet? When usually RFE should come if it comes?
thanks a lot
I'm also an August filer and had my fingerprints taken today.

I applied for the SSN on July 29 and still waiting for it. On the paper they gave to me it's written the verification may take up to 8 weeks, even if the guy told me it would take only 3 weeks. Next week is my 8th week of waiting so I'll pay them a visit. Thank God I could apply for the driver's license (the instruction permit) without the SSN.

Thanks a lot for all the info, we phoned our local DEFERRED INSPECTION office of CBP, got on the phone an officer who knows his job and we fixed an appointment with him tomorrow to check if there is an I-94 issued in the system for me. If not (which is the case) I'll get one on the stop. Problem solved
-
There has to be an I-94 (or was supposed to be) - what stamp did you receive in your passport?
I see that I-94 is the white form you have to fill in before landing. The flight attendant didn't give me this form(even if I explained to her what type of visa I had) and I had no I idea I needed it. The customs officer hardly knew what to write in his computer for K1 so he didn't notice that I had no I-94.
What I have in my passport is a stamp showing the entrance date and the date when my K1 expires.
-
I wanted to go tomorrow to apply for the SSN and reading the forum I discovered that I need a I-94 but I have no such I-94. Nobody told me in the plane coming here or at the customs that I had to fill in such a form. How can I apply for the SSN now? Only with the stamp in my passport ? What am I suppose to do? I cannot wait until after applying for the EAD to finally apply for the SSN, I want to get my driving license - this is my major concern now when the only way I can explore my adoptive country is by riding my bike.
Please, I need your advice.

I just wanted to say Hello BaWa as I'll have the interview also in Brussels, but I know nothing about the co-sponsorship as it's not our case.
Still I have another question: do you know how the interview appointment works? Do they phone to set the date or do they send a letter?
-
[What you need to bring may also be embassy-specific. Look at your embassy's website, click on the Embassy Info button at the top of the page.
I know what are the instructions as I received the package 3 but I was just wondering why for the birth certificate I can go with a simple photocopy and the original and for the divorce certificate I cannot do the same, why do I have to bring a certified copy?
And I wanted to check with the other divorce(e)s what they did.....
-
Hi,
Among other documents required for the embassy interview there is a copy of the birth certificate, it is mentioned it has to be a certified copy or you can go with a photocopy and with the original for the consular officer to inspect.
When it gets to the copies of former marriages and divorces, it's says only certified copies, nothing about the up-mentioned possibility to go with a photocopy and the originals.
What did you do? Should I certify the copies of my former marriage and divorce or take my chance and go with simple photocopies and the originals? I'll have anyway certified translations.
Have a nice week-end,
Stepha

Thank you guys for your replies.
I'll take your advice and apply for SSN before getting married to avoid further problems.
It would be an unpaid internship but still I read on the forum that I may have problems if I don't have my EAD, so I'll leave it aside for the time being, hoping for another internship in January.
You were right - the marriage license we received from the wedding invitation selling company had no legal value.
-
Hi everybody,
We are preparing ourselves for the next steps of our journey: after I enter the States. I read some info but I have a few questions.
1) I understand it's better/easier to apply for the SSN before getting married. Can we apply and get married the next day? or should we wait to have the SSN card in hand? My parents will join me in the States and will stay with us only for 2 weeks, so we may not have time to apply for the SSN priory to getting married because we would like to have our parents besides us for the marriage.
How much more difficult can it be when applying for the SSN after our marriage?
2) If I'd like to apply for an internship would I need the SSN and the EAD? I'll be in the State middle of July and I spotted an internship I would be interested in that starts beginning at September. I don't know if I have any chance of getting it taking into consideration my situation with the official papers and the short time. Should I wait for the next internship opening session in January ?
3) When ordering our wedding invitations via an American website we were informed that we would also get a free marriage license and we really got it but should we trust it? Is it valid? For me it's strange to get one just like this..
Thanks,
Stepha
What's your first job in the States?

I've started looking for a job 2 months ago and still nothing. No feedback , no phone call...There are not so many jobs in my field ( I worked as an archivist so far) and each day I wonder: should I apply for other jobs which are not in my field and for which I'm overqualified or should I still wait....I have pros and cons for each of the situations and I only end up wasting my time in front of the computer and no solution ...Should I compromise? but won't this have a negative influence on my resume? My ex-boss advised me just before leaving: aim high! but how long should I do this?
Frankly, Cloudy9 scared me because she used to be an Assistant Librarian - a field so close to mine but for which there are more openings than in mine. ( at least here in MN)
