I your wife intends to use her married name as her new legal name then you should use your wifes married name on all the AOS forms that ask for family name.

An EAD tied to a K1 visa is temporary and can only be received at POE New York and dies when the I94 expires which is usually after 90 days, but an EAD applied for and received after entry into the U.S. and independent of a K1 visa will last for 1 year and can be renewed. The application fee for an EAD is waived if the application accompanies the AOS application.

When traveling from Philippines to U.S. on PAL, you are allowed to check-in a maximum of two pieces of free baggage with no one piece exceeding a dimension of 62 inches measured by length+width+height. And both pieces together cannot exceed a total dimension of 107 inches. Also, each piece should not exceed 50 pounds (23 kilograms) in weight. If any piece exceeds the 50 pounds (23 kilograms) in weight, then you have to pay an excess baggage flat rate of PHP 7050.
You are allowed to carry one piece of free carry-on baggage small enough to be placed in the overhead rack or under the passenger seat of the plane and the piece must not exceed a dimension of 45 inches and not exceed 15 pounds (7 kilograms) in weight.
In addition of your free carry-on baggage allowance, you are also allowed to freely carry the following items onboard the plane: a small handbag of personal items, a coat, a blanket, and reading materials.

Personally I think Davao City is a very nice place to live. Davao is one of the safest cities in the Philippines having a Mayor who does not tolerate criminal activity. But besides being safe, Davao is clean, well run, and with good medical facilities. Davao has all the amenities like malls, sporting facilities, and nice restaurants. There are nice beaches just a 20 minute boat ride away on Samal Island. Also the cost of living in Davao is much lower than in cities like Manila and Cebu.
Once you decide on where you want to live, I suggest that before buying a house or property to build on, if possible go there for at least 2 months and rent first. Acclimate yourself, take your time, and look around before making your decision.

Just few reasons,
1. Unless you are using the EURO dollar, the US dollar is losing value...and it seem to keep on going down..so you exchange rate maybe not be as good you think it will be...now down to almost 45PHP from almost 60PHP just few years ago.
2. The idea that the cost of living is less there, is just a illusion....as soon you start to make your standard of living similar or close to what you have been used to for all these years, then you will notice that is actually more expensive.
So you may have to learn on on giving up on certain perks...
3. Make sure you are in excellent health...your body immune system will be exposed to some stuff that was not used before...LOL
4. Get used to the weather, food and other things that may be funny while you are on vacation but may get on your nerves when dealing on a daily basis....
In short, it all new culture/lifestyle....if you get used to it...you may actually enjoy it !!!!!!

I have never seen a direct flight from Manila to Detroit searching from the US. Someone here claimed to have found one searcing from the Phils. I don't know why there would be a difference where you are searching from.
I sure would like to find one. Not having a layover in Japan or Hong Kong would make the trip much better!
me either. usually its las vegas, san fran or LA that has direct flight from phil and its usally PAL too... i have a friend who's living in detriot (or 20 mins away from detriot to be specific) and her option was a connecting flight from narita airpot (japan)... then head to detriot. so manila-narita-detriot
thats better than having two connecting flights like mine before lol (manila-hk-san fran- then denver as my final destination)... have a safe flight!!! God bless
I have never seen a direct flight from Manila to Detroit either. I don’t think we will ever find it. The best price I could find was one layover of Manila to Taiwan, then Taiwan to Los Angeles on EVA Airlines for $702.00 total. Then you can get an inexpensive direct flight from Los Angeles to Detroit on Spirit Airlines for about $160.00 total.

Hello awesomepinay,
I also sent our K-1 packet registered mail on 9/16/08. No return slip from post office and no NOA1 yet, but my check did clear the bank on 9/22/08. I guess sending the packet registered mail does slow things up a lot.
