  1. Hello to anyone on this board I am in DESPERATE NEED OF HELP! My husband left the country and I don't know if he will be allowed back in. He has a green card and we are supposed to get the conditions removed next year, 2 years from when we were married. WILL HE BE ALLOWED BACK IN? PLEASE HELP I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO

Thanks kelzm and kiwiana, it's such a relief to know that it's not just me! I started looking early August just to get a head-start and I swear I must have replied to about 50 postings by now and have only heard back from two, I'm thinking it's probably not having any US work experience. Something I've noticed is that the US is fairly intense about the application/interview process here. I used to be a legal secretary for about 5 years without a degree so I'm just applying for any sort of office clerk job, even applying for jobs at the mall. My husband's still in college so I need to find something asap, I'll see how I go with volunteering somewhere or trying a temping agency. Thanks for the advice!

  2. Kelzm we recently sent in our removal of conditions packet too. We sent it to VT. We sent in a few bank statements, insurance and life insurance policies with both our names and the deed to our house. I think Nic threw in a few other things but it did feel like a much smaller packet than the first time around. Nic wanted to send in my ultra sound ( I am 5 months pregnant) just to be cheeky but held off the urge.

The next big concern is that they schedule our interview around my due date. Crossing our fingers on that one!

    I have a question

My husband and I are married and next year we file to remove the conditions.

If the co-sponsor passes away and I don't make enough to support him according to the poverty lines do I have to file another co-sponsor? Does what he make not come into account? Or do I just wait for the interview?

  3. :yes::thumbs:

    Hello all!

Sorry I haven't been on in awhile but we have had some problems. And right now we have a big problem. See, everything was going great. We got married over a year ago and things seemed to be great. But then things seemed to take a downfall and my mother passed away in march. If that's not bad enough, she was my husband's co-sponsor. We just now got finished taking care of business , moving out of the house and stuff that I've even thought of what to do about the whole sponsor thing. Some of my uncles have offered to sponsor him so finding one shouldn't be a problem. I just don't know where to start. And I've been in such a haze of depression I really didn't realize it'd been 3 months already. Do I call and report it or just mail in the new one and then report it? We adjust the permanent resident status in feb i believe. I don't even know what form to do or any of that. Should I call the misinformation line?

    Thanks

  4. We are right here sending positive thoughts....please let us know how you went?

Well that was a bit scary.

We get there and we have to go through a security check. Seems normal but then the guy says no phones with cameras. So we had to walk back to our car, which took 10 minutes one way, so that wasted 20 min. Good thing we came early.

We get to the room and there is the window to check in but instead of a person greeting you, you are greeted by blinds and a note that says to place your appointment notice in the window and have a seat. Did they not want to look at you? I thought that a bit odd.

    They were late.

Also while I was waiting, I ended up finding a couple of bugs crawling around on me. I don't know what it is but bugs are attracted to me and I am SO not a bug person. I tried to freak out in a calm manner when I found them on me lol.

Anyways, our name finally called, we head back there. It seemed like an interrogation almost. First, she assigns us seating and does so sternly, almost rudely, and asked to see our ID's. She called my husband by name but then was like 'what's your name' to me. >.< Then we had to raise our right hand and tell the truth, then we could sit, she said.

She ended up asking a series of question, and my poor husband got some of them wrong :(. The poor guy was so stressed out. The first question was why do you want to live in the US, why not NZ. He didn't know what to say to this besides he wanted to marry me and such. Other questions were were was I born, my mother's maiden and middle name, the date we got married (one of the ones he got wrong), where we got married, why we chose a small ceremony, she asked me what his parents names were and where his father was born, asked also how we met and such and who proposed to who.

After the interrogation she asked to see copies of my birth certificate and the marriage one and my ID. Then she asked for anything that had both of our names on it. I gave her rent receipts and a copy of a wedding check that was written out to both of us but she wanted more.

I am glad the whole thing is over. The lady seemed nice a couple times and then stern the other times. She seemed like she was going to approve it but didn't say for sure. She said we'll get a notice in the mail saying if we're approved or not. I was under the impression we would find out =(.

Well the hubby and I are going away on a trip to Lake Tahoe for a couple days so I have to get packing. But I wanted to share our experience. Hope it goes better for you guys. It felt more like an interrogation than interview to me. I felt like a criminal lol.

    Talk to you all soon!

  5. Yes all the best for tomorrow  and tell us how you get on.....We're planning on moving to Portland Oregon, the heat here in the south sux. Oregon is the closest to the climate at home in Auckland so I can't wait. I'm actually missing the rain, it'll be nice to have a storm without the worry of tornadoes!!!!

How's the driving going Ana???? :star:

I haven't been out in a car to terrorize anyone with my driving since my first practice run round a huge parking lot  . We have been looking at used cars in the newspaper/online etc but nothing has popped up yet that is suitable or that hasn't been sold before we can manage to get to look at it.

I applied for a job at mcd's and subway last week but haven't heard anything back. How are you getting on at driving and job hunting? This has to be the longest i have ever been unemployed and worry that it is going to take ages to find any kind of job, considering that i don't have any USA job history and that i am not exactly 'young'

I actually "love" the weather here in Cali. It hasn't rained since i arrived here in March! which is like a miracle to me :star: When do you plan on moving to Oregon?

Anyone know if the job market is better in Oregon than California?

My hubby has applied pretty much everywhere. We thought he was going to get on at taco bell but the lady gave him the run around.

I'm thinking of trying a joint savings but that might look suspicious if I do that right before. Just he has no income so we didn't think to do it before. Plus, don't you need ID to get your spouse on your account? When we tried to get him an ID before they said he can't because he doesn't have a green card. I'm at a loss here. We're going to have my mom write out some rent receipts since we do contribute here. And I am going to bring wedding cards addressed to us both and a check to both our names. Plus my mom is coming with us since she is sponsoring him. So I am hoping this will be enough >.<

  6. hi everyone,

i've been gone for awhile.. just got back from New Zealand.. its was beautiful and loved every minute.. especally being with my true love!!..and i have good new.. everything has been approved and we will be together..he has some loose ends to tie up and will be in the states within the month.. its been a long hard journey.. and i dont think i could of gotten through without all of the help here.. thanks to all who helped with advise.

    THANK YOU ALL,

    HUGZ ALL ROUND!! :dancing:

    Congratz!

Okay so we have our interview tomorrow to finalize the green card. Anyone have any advice? We are so so nervous and freaking out. I honestly don't know what to do if he got deported, he is my life. The notice is enough to scare us. It goes on saying how if you don't bring this or that it will result in automatic denial. :crying: I'm just a mess right now.

Oh for those of you working up to this point, I hope you have a copy of your birth certificate, you will need it. That was the slump we almost fell into. He only brought one certified copy with him from NZ. So I hope they don't intend to keep it.

Also, sorry I have not been able to get on as much. It's been so hectic here trying to find us both jobs and then other bad family news with my mom getting sicker :( I hope you all are doing better than us and is surviving this heat. I definately want to move or at least get a pool lol this 100-degree weather is killing me lol. I was born here and I still can't stand it. Plus jobs in California are slim. We were thinking about Oregon but not sure job outlook or anything. But it'd definately be cooler, that's for sure.

    Good luck to you all!

I wish I had some sage advice to give you...but all I can do is send positive thoughts your way and big *hugs* (L)

We're doing okay so far..just filed for AOS and behind most everyone else. Surviving the heat ...just :P

I am worried about the part where you have to show proof of ongoing relationship. All we have to bring are photos. We didn't do a joint checking/credit card or anything like that yet since we have no jobs. And we live with and care for my mom so names aren't on the rent. I hope that will be enough :(

  8. Kewl! Thanks guys, that's kinda what we were figuring as well. I'm just not going to bother with it at this point then.

The sheer number of passport photos and fingerprints is truly ridiculous! And as you said Kiwiana, Genna has looked a bit different in every photo. :)

    Hello again everyone!

Just jumping on to say hello. Sorry haven't been on awhile but i've been sick :( better now tho. Still no news paprwork wise but just checked online and said they ordered my husband a card for the I-765 work one. But then it said it can take up to 30 days to get one.

Times have been rough on us having only one of us with a source of income, and not much of one I might add. But we are getting through it day by day. Maybe in the end it will make us grow even closer.

The biometrics went well, was a little surprised and worried they had us fill out paperwork in pencil tho. Simple procedure, they hold ur hands on the machine and you get embarrassed getting yet another photo of yourself taken. Man, they sure require alot of photos hey! Hehe. But yeah that was pretty much it. Oh yeah and as if that wasn't embarrassing enough, ours was in front of the whole office! So my hubby got ice cream afterwards hehe. A little reward, and excuse to have some ice cream.

Anyways, hope you all are doing good. (L)

  9. Sent the parcel in on 23rd Feb and I got the little card thing back about a week later to say the parcel had been delivered and signed for . The first NOA1 letter arrived on 7th March 12 days after I sent AOS off. And so the waiting continues.......

12 days is pretty good! It's a bit like deja vu. In the waiting room again  There was so much to remember to put into the package. I hope I never left anything out

    Hello everyone !

Sorry haven't been on much. I have been busy with wedding, AOS paperwork, and finals for my pharmacy class, which I passed! :star:

We have the biometrics appointment tomorrow. They're making us drive way out of our way but lol guess I should be used to that by now.

I was wondering if we have to bring the K1 stuff too as it says bring all paperwork in regards to this document or something along that lines. Does anyone know?

Glad to see the progress some of you are having. Hope it continues.

Sorry my last one was brief, I wanted to share our social security/DMV experience but ended up spilling soda on the desk. So here it is.

I , the USC, ended up being the one to change my name. So it wasn't as hard as some of you had to go through. We go to the social security office so I can get a new card and they say oh you have to go to this other location. So we go there, and it's in the back of a scary looking building. Luckily, that meant no line; all of the lines were for the front part. So we applied for cards, and things seemed to go well. But the lady said since I am receiving benefits from social security, i have to let them know i am married so i may want to save myself a trip and just go next door now and tell them. So we did only to find out they couldn't because my husband didn't have a SSN but to come back or call in 2 weeks when we get the cards. That seemed okay but in 2 weeks, he got his card but mine never showed. I called on the phone and asked and they said it should be there but to be patient. Also while on the phone, I had to let them know about being married and then they tell me my benefits are going to stop since I got married. I was like WHAT?! I can't work because disabled at the moment and they are telling me my money is going to stop? This was definately a roadblock. So I went in to the office to talk about it to someone only to go through the same process again, as if no one reported I was married before, which made me wonder who the guy was on the phone that took my info down. But the lady said I might still qualify for other benefits but I would have to go to the other office because someone there started some form and they don't like to interfere with other office's stuff. :crying: So the next day we go back and get it figured out. They said I'll be getting a little less a month under a different benefits program. Also, I had to apply for a new card since mine never showed. The guy's excuse was it was the post office's fault. Hmm idk about that but ok.

So I have my card now but now they are saying I owe them $1700 because of overpayment so idk what is going on! But we tried to go to DMV to get my husband an ID card. They said they could only issue it until the visa expires but it has to go through a legal office which takes 60 days so by the time he would get it, it'd be expired :(. Has anyone run into this?

So that is my experience with the wonderful SSA and DMV lol.

  11. amaciar: thats good to hear that nic has found a job  not sure where you would find pies here... and speaking of food.........

i looked in my local supermarket early this morning for baked beans and found a couple of brands and they had bacon and brown sugar flavour???(or something like that) i bought a can by a brand B&M? but haven't tried them yet. All the brand names are very foreign to me. Can anyone recommend a brand that i could try?

kim&chris: wow that is a bit pricey for some weetabix eh? The organic ones i got (made in canada) are very similar to the ones in nz. can't remember exactly how much they were but pretty sure for a box of 12 wasn't over $4. More expensive than the popular cereals here but it was nice to have something that isn't all sugary :star:

At the biometrics appointment,do they just take your fingerprints and that is all? did you mail the evidence they needed for the RFE?

It's a gorgeous day outside today here. It's like it is summer already!

    Hows everyone doing?

Pricey is not the word!!!....lol :o

I did see the organic weetabix (canadian I think) in Krogers one time, I think they're based on the English ones, I heard them mentioned on Coro once...lol Next time I'm in that store, now you've said they're similar to ours, I'm gonna grab a box.

The only beans I've found here so far that vaguely resemble ours is a brand called Showboat. They're called Pork & Beans in tomato sauce, but the pork in them is needle in a haystack material.... .......I miss me Watties Baked Beans and Sausages ;)

Being in the mid west/south BBQ is very big here and you can't eat BBQ without Beans. They're nothing like our baked beans but some of them are extremely delish none the less.

Something to also be aware of is not only the sugar content but the sodium content in food. While checking out the beans when i first got here I noticed the sodium content in some of them was huge, a few even over 1000mg per serving. Not sure if they're the same at home, I only used to check the fat content there. Oh and the nutritional info on the labels at home was always per 100gms of food, but here it's per serve and all the serve sizes vary.....for any of you who are counting sugars, fats, salts etc, just so you know.

The gent from the Aussie shop in North Little Rock told me that a short while ago the NZ Womens 7's Rugby Team had just visited and the Kiwi's that hosted them had gotten some pies and sausage rolls from a place in Atlanta and that they were pretty good. I'm going to try and make some of the things I can't find. It's time for that Kiwi enginuity to start shining through B)

I'm about to post back my RFE info today......god I hope this satisfy's them, I just want to be done with it. :bonk:

    Hello again

Am still having trouble with the 864 and can't find any help I'm looking for on the net and dread calling the misinformation line so here I am again with a question or two. If I understand it right, I am the sponsor, and if i have someone else to help sponsor my SO, they are the joint sponsor right? And I am the main sponsor? See, I hardly make anything and was wondering if I have to include it at all in my form or not, as my sponsor makes enough to cover him. My sponsor also lives with us. Any help on that would be great. Also anyone know if there is a deadline on when to get these in?

  12. Hello everyone!

Just getting back from the honeymoon we had in Santa Cruz. Wedding went great. It was simple and private, at the county clerk's office, where you get the marriage certificate  . Only set off was my mom forgot to put the handicap placard up when she parked so we came out to see a policewoman writing a ticket. Luckily she only got off with a warning hehe.

We had a week long honeymoon in Santa Cruz, California where we mainly went to the beach and got to watch movies indoors since it was raining most of the time

Today we went to Social Security...for 3 hours. :crying: First we go to one office and they are like you have to go to the card place. So we drove there and they said to go back around to the other side of the building, that that was where they do cards. Great lol. An hour later, we saw a human and applied for a couple cards. I had to get one too since I changed my name. Then she says since I am getting benefits I have to notify the people at the front of the building we got married. :bonk: So we walk there, go through a security check, and get a number just to see a person to tell us to wait another bit. :( Then after all of that, she says she can't do anything because my husband doesn't have a social security number, even though I told her we just applied for one. :bonk:

So we have to wait 2 weeks for the cards now..great.

So I am looking at these AOS papers and am trying the I-765 one first haha and am not sure what to put for questions 14 and 15 which ask manner of last entry and current immigration status. He's not a visitor or student. Should I just put K1 Visa holder? Bah! I hate more forms. These seem worse than the first set of forms. :( But if anyone has any advice/input on that, it'd be greatly appreciated. :D

Congratulations you guys, sounds like you had a great time.

If your SO entered on a K-1 Fiance Visa then that's the correct answer to put down for both questions 14 and 15.

Check out the example forms on here. That's what I did and it was a big help

I didn't see example ones when I looked before but I was in a rush so I'll be sure to check it out again or google it. Thanks!

  13. Well I sent the AOS package off on Feb 23 and it was received by them on Feb 26.

I received NOA1 for EAD & AP on March 7 and NOA1 for I-485 & the Biometrics apt on March 9th....a nice birthday prezzie it was too. The AP's a biggie for me as my Dad is in good health, (touch wood), but he's still 78 and my 2nd Mum (my Aunt) is steady for now but terminal so I really want to be able to travel at the drop of a hat if I need to. Hopefully it won't take too long to be approved.

I have my biometrics apt on March 20th in Memphis. It's a 2hr drive but I've already google mapped it so I know where we're going.....lol :star:

Hopefully there will be no RFE's and it'll be transfered straight through to CA, I'm crossing my fingers on that one :whistle:

Still things are moving along so I can't complain. :P

  14. yes, he's leaving tomorrow =D im so excited. Sry havent posted a bit but ive had the flu and a birthday

:wow: that is soo exciting!! :dancing: Hope you feel better soon!!

Thanks to both of you. The process seemed to be dragging on and then all of a sudden it is here. Things are happening a bit fast. He is very sad he has to leave his family but I told him it is not a forever goodbye. After all, there are holidays and such. And phones, email, webcams, all kinds of technology today to keep in touch. But it is sad. I had to leave family before as well. But this time it is in the pursuit of happiness, so I told him to focus on the good even though it may seem bad now. I wish you all the best of luck and hope you all get to be with your sweethearts soon. Wish the paperwork is over but with the warm up we went through so far, I'm sure this next bit will seem like cake haha or maybe I am just dreaming. But I mean for me doing the paperwork before I now know how to word things and a 20 page form doesn't give me a panic attack anymore. It's more like hey I can do this. But still, it is a headache. But the prize ahead is well worth doing all of this. After all, not many get to have the experience we are getting the chance to, the chance to see that love does not know distance. And the chance to be with the one you love through all kinds of obstacles. Maybe it's the romantic in me but sometimes it feels like i am in one of those stories I read about where 2 people love each other but there's hardly any real chance for them to get to be each other, usually an obstacle or 2 in the way. Well for me distance is this obstacle. It's hard to be apart but it truly shows you both what you mean to each other. And being on opposite sides of the earth is really distance. For me, I think of it as showing those around me that love can still exist and persist through bad things like distance. AH i am rambling again at 2am. Sorry for going on and on. I really must go to bed ! :star:

    Best of wishes to all!

  15. Thanks for that! I am willing to offer mine up

me too!! i don't even mind walking up and down the aisle to show everyone :)

kim&chris:Thanks for the info about which card we ask for as i have been wondering about that, so now i will know what to do  how's it going with the AOS?

yankiwi: it's good to know that you arrived safe and sound with no hold ups etc. Hope nothing was damaged in the boxes that you mailed over beforehand.

Lisaandtim: congrats on the visa! have you set a date on when he will leave nz?

ivannaloveskiwi: wow! only 6 days to go! be sure to let us know how he gets on!

cdneh: only like 11 days to go now!! (the countdown continues!) :)

michelle and kelvan: how's it going?

yes, he's leaving tomorrow =D im so excited. Sry havent posted a bit but ive had the flu and a birthday

  16. Oh not to worry! Who here hasn't had a freak-out  I've had mine for sure!

Glad to hear it's on their end, and that they have heard from the Police.

Yay! Just got news that he is picking up his visa today! Omg I'm so excited I don't know what to do first!

    Exciting !!! :)

    Ok he has a question:

The cards they hand out on board an airplane for customs and all that, which color one would I get or what do I ask for, obviously not the visa waiver one this time?

  17. thanks for all the info! i guess we'll just ask the county clerk about the nationality of the witness. re: the ceremony - we won't be having anything till next year, when my family comes over. this will be strictly a walk in and sign papers kind of situation. i want to pretend we're NOT married until the ceremony next year, so that the day will feel 'completely' special, if that makes sense. i already have my wedding band (we got my engagement ring/wedding ring as a set) but i don't think i'll wear it till the ceremony!

I'm going crazy here on this dumb police report thing. No one emails us back and the phone says 'not taking calls'. Can we just go get one ourselves and hand it to them? It's been over a week. Idk what's going on. Any advice?

Is it the New Zealand police clearance you are waiting for? They won't accept one you get yourself, if that's it.

Heh I am freaking out for nothing. Just after I wrote this my SO sneakingly got ahold of a person through the appointment line. They said the police report has been received however the computers are down. X.X So, now we're waiting on computers to come up, hopefully tomorrow she says, where they will call him if it does and can come pick up the visa and how ours and 1 other person is being affected by this ><. I am tired of waiting! But I guess it is good I learn patience. Just, I miss him so much and next week is our anniversary. And it seems like one thing after the next. Like it's always one more week =(. Well God willing we will have it in hand tomorrow. Sorry for freaking out earlier.

  18. thanks for all the info! i guess we'll just ask the county clerk about the nationality of the witness. re: the ceremony - we won't be having anything till next year, when my family comes over. this will be strictly a walk in and sign papers kind of situation. i want to pretend we're NOT married until the ceremony next year, so that the day will feel 'completely' special, if that makes sense. i already have my wedding band (we got my engagement ring/wedding ring as a set) but i don't think i'll wear it till the ceremony!

I'm going crazy here on this dumb police report thing. No one emails us back and the phone says 'not taking calls'. Can we just go get one ourselves and hand it to them? It's been over a week. Idk what's going on. Any advice?

  19. She'll be sitting outside in the coffee place waiting to go up the lifts now ...sending you calming vibes!!!

thanks so much, amazingly i was quite ok once i was seated inside the consulate and waiting, still very nervous but a huge improvement on just trying to get there :)

    CONGRATZ!

And yes, as Ruby asked, Tim and I are a young couple, which makes me worry. He's worked 3 jobs at a time before but now is just doing the mechanical assembly job as coming to the US a bit doesn't make you happy with the bosses lol. I am on disability for depression and wasn't able to get a dr note in time, so I attached a letter from myself explaining what I have, and how I am working on getting better, etc. Part of my plan to see if I can function is to pass a program (14 week pharmacy technician ) I am in at the moment, which I attached too. I hope that will show I hope to return to the workforce one day. He'd like to go to the program as well, should I mention that? Or will that look funny? My cousins could put a word in for him at dryer's ice cream if he knows his way around and has a licence lol. Any tips on what we should do? I have a cosponsor who is slightly above the poverty lines as well. Thanks

    APPROVED!

Just waiting on police report now >< and i have to find a new cosponsor once we're married ><

congratulations, wonderful news, was it as bad as he thought it would be?

Well he got a question wrong. But wasn't a biggie. And they said I need a cosponsor with a job =(. That's going to be really hard. No family wants to be sued for being on food stamps, even tho theres no way we're going to do that. I wouldn't put them into trouble. But also waiting for police report =( says could take a week before they send the visa. I want to die! My bday is on the 17th. Would have been a nice present o well

  22. Thanks for that! I've moved back and forth a lot, but I've used movers, and I haven't got that much this time. It is still mostly all in storage in Vancouver. I'll go up this afternoon and get some boxes

Ok I am freaking out. We have our interview on Feb 12 8:45am. Any advice?

Take it easy...that's what I'd say....it's not as bad as we all worry about. Hard to believe ..but true. I was quite nervous as all get out, and I didn't need to be. (F)

Have a read of Kiwiana's thread on her interview, it tells you everything you need to know, and all about what happens.

Also for proof of funds, does he need statements for the whole year? Can they be online statements? He has some paystubs but not all.

We had online statements. A lot of places have gone paperless now, and that's the usual.

Bah, this resume thing is killing me. I'm trying to go with one that lists everything without an objective but i can't figure out what to put in the summary or really wat format. Basically, he'll take any job but that isnt really an objective lol. Any advice? We're not good with resumes. And theres like a billion types out there. Work history includes bakery assistant, paperboy, scorebench official, and light assembly (main one).
