  1. Hello everybody, I was searching for some information about this but didn't find any recent posts. My K1 petition was recently approved in about a month and sent to the US Interest Section in Havana. I rushed and called their appointment service to get one, but the soonest one they had available was for August. In the NOA2 it says the petition is approved until June 2010, so my question is: Will my petition expire automatically just because they couldn't give me an earlier appointment date? And if there are any cubans around, how long did you guys have to wait for your interview? I can't believe I have to wait another 5 months for a simple interview but I guess that's life. Thank you in advance!

We waited three months for the appointment, but it just depends. All you have to do to keep your petition current is to email them at HavanaConsularInfo@state.gov before the 4 months are up and let them know the case is still active and there is no problem.

The main problem with the wait is, they do an administrative pre-approval that is valid from the time you get your appointment permission for about 4 months. In that way you get your visa the next day if you are documentarily approved. However, we had to wait several weeks to get the visa after the appointment, because by the time he fixed his birth certificate errors and got his passport and made the appointment and got the date, our pre-approval had expired, unbeknownst to us. Then it snowed in DC for a month and he had to go from Santiago to Havana twice because they told him to come back too soon. You will probably have to wait for them to do the background check again after your appointment. Usually that takes three weeks but we waited more than 6. :(
