  1. It varies depending on the service center and the time of year. Ours was roughly 30 days from biometrics to GC....we never did get our EAD in the mail.

I wish you the best of luck.

Thanks for the reply it is always interesting to hear other people's experiences since they seem to vary from case to case. Did you have to go in for an interview or did you just receive the GC?

  2. My wife and her son are applying for AOS. We sent off their I-485 packets about three weeks ago. We received a receipt for the checks about a week and a half later and an appointment letter for the biometrics yesterday. The biometrics so far as I can tell from this site is just taking fingerprints. My question is I have a job at the same time as the interview, my work is freelance, do I need to be there for the biometric appointment or could I have a family member take my wife and son. From what I understand the actual interview takes place at another time. Thanks for all help.

  3. My wife and I are sending in our AOS paperwork this week and I have a few final quesitons. On form I-864, part 1, do I check box a (I am the petitioner. I filed.....) or do I leave blank, as shown in sample form on VJ website. In addition on part 3 I am listing my wife's son and checking box 9 ( I am sponsoring the following family members....), since he is a K2 visa holder under her K1 visa I assume that I do not need to fill out another I-864 for him. Any and all help is greatly appreciated, thanks.

Well, I looked at the form after reading your question and think that if you are the only sponsor of your wife, you are the petitioner of the I-864 in other words you should check option 1a. 1d would then apply if you would be the only additional sponsor. Appearently VJ based their example for this situation. In my case my wife is sponsoring me and I checked 1d on the form so actually discovered that I filled it out wrong ): . Well, let's see if this is gonna be an issue they send RFE for. I actually don't think it should be such a big one, since the rest of the form would be filed out the same way. Is there anyone who made this mistake too and had an RFE?

"Often a spouse or minor children obtain visas or adjust statusas dependents of a relative, based on the same visa petition. If you are sponsoring such dependents, you only need to provide a photocopy of the original Form I-864, as long as these dependents are immigrating at the same time as the principal immigrant or within six months of the time he or she immigrates to the United States. You do not need to provide copies of the supporting documents for each of the photocopied Forms I-864."

In other words a photocopy of the I-864 with your sons application should be enough.

    Thanks for the help.

  4. The social security office told me the same thing when we inquired about an s.s. card for her 6 year old son. I filled out the section on DS-230 for Social Security cards but they were never sent. The social security office made it seem as though you had to fill out the paperwork at their offices to get s.s. cards. I too am filling out the AOS paperwork and I agree some of it is confusing.

  6. Hello all, I am a new member to the VisaJourney family. My wife, K-1 visa holder, and I are currently filling our AOS forms after our marriage, in Texas, this past weekend. We have certified copies of our marriage certificate but it only states her full name, with her maiden name. She wants to take my last name. Do we use her new last name on the AOS forms, although all previous forms have her maiden name. We applied for a s.s. card and they said it had to be in her maiden name until she got a green card, so I assume the green card would have her new last name. Any and all help would be appreciated. Thank you.

You use on the application the name you want on the greencard... all previous names need to be indicated in the apprpriate section

    Thanks
