  1. Hello There,

My wife just received her passport back with a temporary I-551. We are now going to apply for Re-entry visa application. However we are still overseas but plan to go to America at the end of this month. Should we send the application to the Guangzhou USCIS office or one of them in the states (Nebraska)? Also if I pay the fee $305 US in China to the embassy what the process of doing this?

Our goal is to get back to China as soon as possible so I can continue the work that we are doing here. So anyone who has done this before, I would appreciate your help.

Also do I need to include any additional photos? It said that a biometric fee would need to be paid as well ($80) however, I believe this is done afterwards.

    Thanks again,

  2. Hello There,

After a long Tuesday morning starting from waking up at 5:30am, we headed to the embassy to wait in line for her appointment at 7:15 am. Nancy some how got to the front (what an eager beaver! smile.gif However, once they check her information, she was let in. I couldn't join her. The security guy wouldn't let me in. (I remember reading a few of you were allow to be in the room before.) So I need to wait for her. Eventually she called me. Not good news. sad.gif They needed her to fill out another form that I didn't know about and they wanted the originals of our sponsor paperwork. So she came out and we looked at that. Then she fill in the information and paid some fee. She also told me that they wanted the original documentations of my sponsor application forms. We didn't have this only an "acrobat" copy.

Then I didn't hear from her for a long time. I was thinking worse case scenario that we would need to turn in more paperwork before we could receive the visa. Yet, hoping and thinking for God's favor. I started to imagine us both in US and some of the things we could be doing there. Eventually she sent me another text message. "I got the VISA!" My heart leaped inside me.

She was one of the last people they called for an interview. She said all the numbers called were in random order. The questions weren't any different than questions posted before.

Thank you for all you who have been so helpful in the process.

  3. The instructions state that this is for very specific jobs:

"My absence from the United States is:

    2. For the purpose of carrying on scientific research on behalf of an American institution of research - Check Box B if you are employed by a qualifying organization.

    3. For the purpose of engaging in the development of foreign trade and commerce of the United States on behalf of an American firm or corporation or a subsidiary thereof - Check Box C if you are employed by a qualifying firm or corporation.

    4. Necessary to the protection of property rights outside theUnited States of an American firm or corporation engaged in the development of foreign trade and commerce of the United States - Check Box D if you are employed to perform such services.

    5. On behalf of a public international organization of which the United States is a member- Check Box E if you are employed by a qualifying organization.

NOTE: Your employment cannot have started until after your admission as a permanent resident.

    6. Solely because of my capacity as a clergyman or clergywoman, missionary, nun, or sister of a denomination or mission having a bona fide organization in the United States - Check Box F if you are to serve in such capacity for a qualifying mission or organization."

Yep, the devil is in the details. (instructions in this case)

I'd plan on absences longer than six months resetting the clock for citizenship unless qualified as listed above.

By including the weblink to the Instructions to the N-470. It answered the remaining questions I have. Thanks for all your help.

  4. NOT if you apply for and get approved: Form N-470:For a permanent resident alien who must leave the United States for certain employment purposes and wishes to preserve his or her status as an immigrant in order to pursue naturalization.

Approved I-131 is necessary as well

Thanks for the info about the Form N-470. After my wife has been in the states for one year she can filled out this form and if approved she can work in another country without it affecting her visa application. Have you or do you know anyone who has done this?

  5. Thanks, this information was quite helpful. You don't know what to look for unless you know how to ask the right questions.

  6. Hi There,

I have an inquiry which I didn't know how to word in a simple way. I would like to know after my wife coming to the states on an IR-1 Visa, how long until she could become a US citizen? I heard that it was only one 1 year. However, I cannot remember where I read this.

When I look up general information from websites they say from 3-5 years.

Any assistance on this issue would be a great help,

    Curt

  7. Hi There,

I am new at this. I am in the process of filing for my Chinese wife to come to the states. I have a few questions that I need assistance on.

    1. Is it possible to send the 1-130 Form to the embassy without going there directly? My wife and I live in Fujian.

    2. On the 1-130 Form Part D. Other Information. It asked the question in D.2 "Have you ever before filed a petition for this or any other alien?

This is the first time we filed for Cr-1 immigrant visa, but we did apply for a tourist visa, but this was rejected. So I am not sure I need to write done this information down or not.

    Thanks,

    Curt
