  1. have other members (especially trinket) received anything from Mumbai consulate? My wife has received NVC letter but she hasn't received anything from Mumbai consulate

    CS

The beneficiary should get packet w/ interview letter from Bombay consulate...I had emailed them last week and they said they have sent packet to the beneficiary so my husband should get it this week...The letter that NVC sends is cleary different from the one sent by the embassy in bombay because they emailed me a pdf version also. Although, the interview date listed on both is the same...so if your spouse in India doesn't receive his/her copy, you can just send yours to them and it should work.

  2. Update-- Received my Interview letter 5 minute ago. So don't have to worry about taking another copy from Mumbai consulate when I go to Mumbai :)

    Congrats...

Did you receive this letter from NVC or from Mumbai Consulate???? This is where I get confused. Does my beneficiary receive a letter for Interview from NVC and another letter from Mumbai consulate? My wife also received her letter from NVC (same letter that I received) this monday (20th Oct.). However, she has NOT received anything from Mumbai Consulate. Should I be worried? Does Mumbai consulate schedule beneficiaries for medical? or can you get your medical done anytime you want within certain timeframe?

Anyone who have had better luck receiving letter, please chime in....

    thanks,

    CS

I've received mine from NVC, but my husband hasn't received anything from NVC or the Mumbai consulate yet....it's been 2 weeks since our case was completed....don't know when he'll receive his. I've emailed my scanned copy to him...hopefully they'll accept that.

  3. Also, check with VFS if you guys havent received letter about your interview.

Current interview dates for November can be checked here:

    http://mumbai.usconsulate.gov/interview_appt_schedule.html

I have received an interview letter from NVC for my husband...but he hasn't gotten it yet. The letter I got said the file has been forwarded to Bombay...but he still hasn't gotten his. I got mine last Friday...and the interview date is not listed on the website (the above link)...should I contact them or just wait for couple days for him to receive the packet? If he doesn't recieve it, I was planning on emailing him my scanned copy...can he take that to the medical and the interview or does he have to take the original sent by them...? I know the format is a little different for what he receives. Thx.

  4. Hi,

First of all, I would like to thank everyone on VJ for making this happen. There were times when I had questions on I130, G325A, DS3032, 230, and I864 but I always knew who/where to turn to for assistance. The VJ community is the best!!

:dance:MY HUSBAND'S VISA HAS BEEN APPROVED!!

His interview was scheduled for 8:45am on 10/20/08. He arrived at the embassy at 7:30am.

Here is a timeline of what took place……..

    7:30am Arrival at Embassy

    7:35am Went through security check

    8:15am Fingerprinting

    8:30am First interview

The lady collected his medical report and returned his originals (birth certificate, marriage certificate…)

During the first interview which was conducted by an Indian lady, he was only asked two questions….

    Who is the petitioner?

    What is your marriage date?

Then he was asked to take a seat and his name will be called……

10:10am Second interview – took an oath that everything on form ds230 is true and signed part II of the form. He was then asked the following........

    Who is petitioning for you?

    How did you meet?

When was the first time you met?

Who went with you to see your wife for the first time?

    Date of your marriage?

    What does your wife do?

    Is this your first marriage?

    Is this her first marriage?

Do you have any family members living in the US?

    Who attended the wedding?

Who came from the US to attend the wedding?

Then he was told….congratulations…that his Visa has been granted and it could be collected within a week from the local VFS office.

My husband was not asked to see a single proof of ongoing relationship or any other papers. He carried with him…..copy of the complete petition, the wedding album, hundreds of other photos, stack of e-mails, stack of post cards, thick stack of monthly phone bills by Reliance (two to three calls per day)……..

He was in the embassy at 7:35am and was out with VISA APPROVED at 10:30am.

CONGRATULATIONS!!! I'm very happy for you guys.

Just a question on the phone bills by reliance....I use the same service and I just save the calls made every month since they don't mail you a hard copy. Is this what he took with him? I just wanna be sure it will be ok to just take the online version of the bills... Thx.

  5. My wife went for interview yesterday. She took everything with her to the interview including all the docs., wedding and engagement pics. But, they still require more pics. besides marriage. So, they put her on PENDING. She has to submit the proof now to Ahmd. VFS office.

Does n e one know how long will it take until they give her visa after providing the required proof?

    Thanks

    Dhruv

How many pictures did she take with her? I'm asking because I had to come back in a week after my marriage as I had return ticket so we hadn't been on our honeymoon so we have no pics of that...We have planned a trip in Nov....and it was booked...but then we just got interview date right in the middle of of trip...so had to cancel it :o( I'm wondering how many engagement/wedding pics we should take...I don't wanna take my album from u.s. to India as it's too heavy.

  6. Mystique,

My wife hasn't received anything from Mumbai consulate so far.

However, instruction packet 3 from Mumbai consulate is totally confusing and it seems that it's outdated. It's asking to submit DS 230 Part I, Birth Cert (Orginal and photocopy), Marriage Certificate (orginal and photocopy), Police Certificates....

We have already submitted these documents to NVC. I have received letter from NVC confirming the date of interview for my spouse and that letter also contains the checklist of documents that they have received.

To make matters worse, the Packet 3 instructions also asks beneficiary to pay $400 in Visa Fee. We have already paid this too....Oh and you also have to sign the Applicant's Statement on the last page of instructions....I have never seen this stuff.....

So What else is there left to send to Mumbai consulate via VFS???? Everything they ask for in packet 3 is already with them...I am totaly confused....

    CS

I am totally confused too.....one of the letter has the IV fee, IV surcharge and stuff included as follows:

    IV COURIER FEE

    IV PROCESSING FEE

    IV COMBINED FEE ($355 + $45)

IV ISSUANCE FEE [For applicants who have paid the current $260/-IV application fee via the NVC]

IV SURCHARGE (to be paid by IV and DV applicants) (to be paid by all applicants who have already paid $335 combined processing fee.)

    SURCHARGE FOR DV VISA APPLICATION

    DV COMBINED FEE ($375 + $400)

It lists prices in $ and Rs....but all I know is that I've paid IV fee for $400 so that counts for the IV COMBINED FEE...but what's all the other stuff? the IV ISSUANCE FEE says for all applicants who've paid the current $260 IV application fee??? and what's DV for?? This stuff is so confusing.

  7. Hi guys, did all of you got an interview date if your case was completed at NVC in that past few days? mine was completed on Oct. 14th, and still waiting for interview date. i heard it might be late November. did anyone got their interview date in Mumbai, India? if so, please keep in touch. thanks

I got my interview date for Nov 24

I have interview in November too...I have received the notice about the interview date but my wife hasn't received it. So that has me worried now. Plus, do you guys know if Embassy from Mumbai will be sending anything to her for Medical Exam???

    thanks,

    CS

NVC said they sent out packet for interview and should receive it soon...cuz they're supposed to notify in writiing at least month before the interview date...

  8. Hi,

we've got interview date in November. The interview packet that we received from NVC mentions that all documents need to be submitted at a VFS office and all the fees. But the documents were submitted with DS-230, so will we need to submit them again? (It lists the same documents..i.e. Birth cirty, marraige cirty, etc...). Also, the IV fee was paid to NVC ($400)...so we don't need to pay it again right? It lists the following fees to be paid at VFS:

"K" VISA APPLICATION $131 (of course, this doesn't apply to us since we are in CR-1 category...)

IV COURIER FEE -- Rs. 394

    IV PROCESSING FEE -- $355

    IV COMBINED FEE ($355 + $45) -- $400

IV ISSUANCE FEE (For applicants who have paid the current $260/-IV application fee via the NVC) -- $65

IV SURCHARGE (to be paid by IV and DV applicants) (to be paid by all applicants who have already paid $335 combined processing fee) -- $45

SURCHARGE FOR DV VISA APPLICATION -- $375

    DV COMBINED FEE ($375 + $400) -- $775

    My questions are:

    What does DV stand for??

I have paid $400 and the $70 only at NVC for the AOS and the IV Processing Fee. So I will only need to pay the Courier fee, the IV Issuance Fee, and the Iv Surcharge right? I don't know what the DV combined fee is...

    Thanks for any clarifications.

  9. If, I understand this correctly these only need to be printed copies of all your taxes for three years?

Tax transcripts can be from the IRS. You can call them and they will mail you the transcripts. If you have your own copies, you can mail in copy of those but you will need to submit W-2, 1099 forms and any other supplementary documents you had sent when you filed the taxes. If you use IRS transcripts, there is no need to send any of these...that's what I used.

Is New York where all international packages goes to? I'm in CA....I'm just confused if it should've been directly in CA...cuz my sister had package sent to Ca too and it was in a different city. it's been 5 days since it's been in u.s....I should've gotten it by now right?

  11. INR,

Did you use Indian Postal Service? If so, their Speed Post for USA is partnered with USPS and you can track your mail. I was trying to find that specific link for you, but I guess Indian Postal Website has gone through some changes since I last checked.

I should clarify though about that 5 month thing, it happened only once, I do usually use Registered Mails of Indian Post to post packages to my husband and he gets them anywhere from 10 to 20 days, but not sure why he it took 5 months for that specific package.

    Hi,

Thanks. I actually have the link...for India post, it says "No information available"...but I tried the same tracking # in the USPS website tracking...and it says the following:

    Status: Inbound Into Customs

Your item is being processed by United States Customs. Information, if available, is updated every evening. Please check again later.

So I guess I should have it within 1-2 days right?

    Thanks

  12. Hi,

Just wondering if anyone in here knows how long the speed post from India to u.s.a takes?

For us, it took exactly one week to arrive in usa...

Is there tracking available for this? It has it for domestic posts but I don't know if it's available for international mails...

  13. I used DHL 4 times till now and though its expensive yet it took around 5 days from Andaman Islands to Southern Indiana.

Now I have also once used Speed Post from Indian Post office, and my husband got the package exactly 5 months later........you just gotta love them. Glad it was just random things for him, no official papers.

Now I'm scared...I hope it doesn't get "lost" in the mail....I should've had my husband send it via DHL or fedex..since he still paid about the same for this...It's all original documents... :o(

  14. They said 10 days...but last time my husband sent me mail, it was a certifided mail and took 9 days to get to me...I thought speed post would take less than that but they said 10 days...seems longer. Oh well...what's a couple extra days...

    Thanks for the replies...

  15. Hi,

Just a question on #23 on DS-230 form that asks for all the educational insitutions attended. We've put the middle and high school information here along with the college. However, under the Degree/Diploma column, would we just write "N/A" for the middle school and high school? You don't get degree, but in u.s. u get diploma after graduating high school...but that's not the case in India. So would N/A work here or just write something like "Standards 8-12"??

    Thanks.

  16. Has anyone had a PCC done in Gujarat within this last month or two????

Is this true or false? My mom's brother & his family was told that PCC can NOT be done untill a "FORM is sent by US petitioner or NVC to beneficiary is submitted when applying for PCC"? (F4 preference Petition)

When my husbhand (CR1 Petition) had his PCC a year ago nothing of this sort was asked......so I'm a little confused!

My husband tried to get it before the "official" letter was sent from NVC for ds230...but he was denied...same with my cousin 2 months ago...so yes, in some places, you will have to have a letter from NVC and only then they will issue you one. (Note: My husband got it w/o the letter from the district police, but passport office asked for the letter)

  17. I think you can have it translated by anyone who is fluent in English (they would have to have something written that states that they are fully capable of translating from Gujarati to English and that the following details are an extract from the original polic certificate issued by so and so city) and then have it notarized...just like your original birth certificate is done and send both copies of the PCC (in Gujarati and the translated one in English). By the way, most PCCs are issued in English now....asking the police authority for it in English wouldn't hurt if they can do that.

  18. Hi,

I don't know if anyone here has had similar issues with name on birth certificate. My husband has his name in his birth certificate without "kumar" at the end of the first name...i.e. if first name is Mahesh, usually the name may have "kumar" added to the first name. This is the case for my husband...his paspport and all the other school documents has "kumar" at the end of his first name, but the birth certificate doesn't. Although I can get a notarized letter stating it is the same person, will I have to write his name for "other names used or aliases" on ds-230 #2 and #27? I hadn't even though about this and didn't have copy of his birth certy with me when I filed I-130..and so in I-130 I haven't written his name w/o kumar in the part that asks "other names used"...so if I write it in ds-230 will it creat problem since it doesn't show that in I-130? I'm so confused on this. Thanks for any help in advance.

  19. India may be a country that requires state as well as country police certificates. I would ask what others with SO's from India have done.

Actually it's not a question for PCC. I know my husband has to get all PCCs from local police authority and passport office from ALL areas in India where he's lived for at least 6 MONTHS. Question is, he's only stayed at one address (for at least six months)...but moved to a different city but has been living there for only a month now. So would he put this place under question 20? it's only asking to list places where u've lived for at least 6 months and it's only one place in his case....but his present address is different...so don't know if he has to put that also even though he hasn't been there for more than a month.

In that case put the current address. Could you please fill in you timelines and CSC or VSC.

    Thanks.

I actually haven't kept track of the timeline...but here's a general idea of what I know from top of my head:

sent in I-130 at the end of April, 2008

    July 18th got approval notice

Mid-July got letter from NVC with case # assigned

DS-3032 accepted on August 15th (it was accepted via e-mail to NVC)

I-864 fee received in August along with ds-3032...i think it was August 10 and I sent it the next day

I-864 form sent to NVC on Aug. 20th.

IV fee bill paid online Aug. 21st and cleared the next day

DS-230 ready to be accepted the same day (Aug. 21st) but I am still waiting for PCC and other documents from my husband

DS-230 missing letter received from nvc yesterday (Sept. 09, 2008)

    Thx.
