  1. The idea was to prohibit a national religion, specifically favor one form of Christianity over the other, or establish "The Church of the United States". It did not prohibit the individual states, however, from favoring one religion over another, as many states already were predominately of one religion, or another, or even to allow Utah to be established as a Mormon territory.

ETA: Jefferson's "Wall of Separation" aside, the founders intended to keep government out of the affairs of religion, not keep religion out of governance.

I came across this - The phrase stemmed from a letter Thomas Jefferson wrote to the Danbury Baptist Association in 1802. He cited the language of the First Amendment and said that it built "a wall of separation between Church and State."

  2. You are so arrogant to make demands on me. I'm not your surrogate to do what's "right" while you sit back and judge. Who are you to tell me what I MUST do or not do? My superior? No. You say I go defensive, but in saying so, you go stupid enough to think that I owe you a response you like. The REAL problem is that people like you need to get off their fat azzes and do something to make the world a better place instead of dictating to others what you want them to do while you point fingers. Be the change in the world you want to see, not a mere criticizer.

I made no demand. I made a observation.

I do things to make this world a better place and considering my fat azz its not easy.

  4. IMO it was a OK film at best, way to long and the science fiction aspect of it was a little silly if you ask me.

My wife's family loved it and we will be going to manilla on saturday, while there they want to watch it again in 3D, local theatre here did not show it in 3D, no glasses. Im going to opt out and watch Sherlock Holmes.

To those who say its ridicoulous that people are noticing/pointing out the "greeny" parallels the movie draws are not being honest with themselves, there was a propaganda element in this film plain and simple.

  5. Will my wife need to bring a copy of the tax returns with her to the interview. It will be at the Embassy in Manila. The NVC has all this info, I just figured there would be some sort of communication but somebody told me I might need to bring this..

she can bring W2 form with herself but also you can email the embassy they will tell you.

So my wife will need to bring the Tax transcripts and my Affidavit of support?

  6. You did say desperately uninsured so I say the number is quite a bit lower if you leave out the people that can afford insurance but choose not too. I think a lot of illegal immigrants are desperate so I cant subtract them, now if there deserving well thats another thread. I say what is 30 million Alex Danno.

  7. Well, gee.

Maybe you should have had a regular job then!

yeah, excuse me for reading about jfk when i was a kid and he said something to the effect of "ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country."

i shoulda sat around and waited for a handout.

Charles is a disenchanted Liberal? It's all making sense now.

i was a left wing liberal when i was 18. then i grew up.

Winston Churchill - “ Any man who is under 30, and is not a liberal, has not heart; and any man who is over 30, and is not a conservative, has no brains.”

  8. On the this sites help section where it lays out the steps for the IR-1/CR-1 I came across this line when referring to the I-864 -

When a joint sponsor is needed ,proof of their U.S citizenship or permanent residency is required. (i.e. copy of birth certificate, immigration status etc).

On NVC's site I could not find anything saying that the joint sponser needed a copy of Birth Certificate. I only looked on the I-864 requirements at NVC website. I didnt see anything sponser realated.

Does anybody know if its required or gone thru the same situation?

  9. This posting does not apply to US citizenship, doesn't it? I didn't file any affidavit with my naturalization papers. Did I forget anything?

This process has to go through for her to become a US citizen. So I assume its the right spot but I am thinking about posting it somewhere else on this forum because there has been very little response here.

  10. Hello everybody, I just got married in the Philippines in Tacloban City on August 19,2008. I now have to start the paper processes and have alot of questions. Any help will be appreciated.

I had a question about my marriage certificate that I got from the local civil registery in Tacloban City. I know that the one that we get from NSO that is sent to US embassy in Manila is the one you want. My question is that for filing the I-130, will the local civil registery marriage certificate be enough or will they want to see the NSO marriage certificate. Has anybody done it this way and if so I would really like to hear how it went. When I was down there I went to the NSO and was told it could take anywhere from a month to 4 months so I am hoping I dont have to wait for all that. My wife will be checking up on it to speed up the process.
