  1. I've met a lot of filipina women from church. And they share with me some of their experiences. First, the husband himself request her wife to speak english all the time so she will be able to practice more and speak well in the long run, regardless who she was talking too, practice practice practice. Second, the husband does not request but require, because the husband does not want to offend the people around them and with them who can't understand and speak tagalog. Third, the husband feels insecure when her wife speaks tagalog, regardless who they are with, especially when her wife is talking on the phone. I understand how these women go through and why they act this way. Only a secured relationship with God can remove our insecurity.

Without the confidence placed on God, we can never find contentment with our family nor our wordly belongings, for all things and people will pass away.

Some women find their value on the material stuff that they have, not because they want you to feel bad about it, but because they feel good telling it to others. Just like the OP said, a compliment is always appreciated :)

Let's be a little patient with our kababayans who act this way, they may have a deeper problem within them and only through making themselves look good externally alleviate their insecurities. We can't control them but we can certainly control our reactions towards them. God bless us all!

  2. Try FEBXOOM10 it just worked for me. But, there is a limit to the number of times that Xoom will let anyone use a coupon, maybe once per month?

Thank you, I just used it today. It worked. Every dollar counts di ba :)

Salamat sa sa pag share ng code. GOD BLESS!

  3. I am married to a Filipino USC but I know one reason from my bestfriend's point of view..She is married to a white guy.

She was a frustrated child star, when we were young she would always attend auditions but always end up in failure.

It's always the mestizo/meztisa who has the edge in reaching stardom, and none for dark skinned kids like her.

Growing up, she wanted to be married to a white guy, as long as he had brown, blue, green or gray eyes so she would have beautiful children.

Her plan is to put her children in auditions to make them models or child actors, to fulfill her longtime dream.

Now she has a 2 year old son from a handsome white guy and we joke about her plans of bringing her son to a modeling agency :P

But her priorities have change a lot, now it's about building a relationship with God, enjoying her husband and kid :)

  4. Hello all,

My current wife entered the country on a K Visa with her maiden name. After the marriage, she took my last name. Does any one else have a similar experience. We went to the DMV as soon as we got her EAD card and the DMV folks told us that the SAVE system shows a different name than what her EAD card. Turns out, it was the maiden name. We have applied for her SSN, EAD, GC all in her married name.

We then went to a DMV office abt 50 miles from where we live and filed the application for SAVE validation. A couple of weeks later we got a letter stating that there are no issues w/ the name. We wanted to wait till we get the permanent card and went to the DMV office after that...this time w/ the permanent card. This time around, the DMV folks raised the same objection...however, since we had the previous letter, they allowed us to get learners permit.

Now, has someone else faced this issue w/ SAVE and name change after marriage?

Will this create a problem, if we leave the country and at the POE immigration w/ her permanent card?

How do we actually get it fixed in the "system," whatever system means?

    Thanks.

The "system" that they were talking about is the homeland security. Eventhough the GC that has been issued to her has her married last name on it, her name in homeland security system has not been changed yet. DMV, SSN, and homeland security are all connected to each other, they can verify with each other if the person applying is legally staying here.

Same thing that happened to me, I had my SSN, EAD and GC but they they didn't issue me at first, they showed me a print out of my file in DHS still with my maiden name on it. They let me take the test after 2 visits to DMV, and after I insisted that what is the use of all these identification cards DHS has given if they will not honor it.

Do not worry about traveling abroad, just bring your card along with you and better yet the letter that came with it and the welcome letter to the US as well :P

We can't fix the system, only the DHS people are the ones that can update our names.

    God bless you guys!

  5. It does depend why he snores. We got my husband a mouth guard and that has made a world of difference.

    Hello Tracy!

Do you need a prescription for the mouth guard?

How much would it cost and where can I find it?

Is your husband comfortable wearing it?

Thank you in advance for your reply. I am very much interested.

    God bless :)

  6. I used Breathe Right nasal strip, my husband told me it's working. Guys I'm the one who snore bad not my husband. Before using breathe right my husband used ear plug too. Every morning I asked him if I snore bad so I know how bad it is, but so far after using breathe right every night he didnt use ear plug anymore. It's a flexible spring-like bands gently lift nasal passages open to airflow. His worried this might be a sign of sleep apnea.

Hello! I am very interested where to get these Breathe Right nasal strips, and how much would it cost?

Do you sleep comfortable with it?

  7. Just wanted to share with you guys my experience :)

We have been married for less than a year now..

But I can't get used to my loving husband's snoring..

Sometimes I just want to hit him with the pillow or sleep in the living room away from the eerie sound

I wake him up and tell him to sleep on his side, but sometimes I feel bad about it coz I don't like to disturb his beauty sleep, especially when he had a long day at work. Though he wakes up and he tells me his sorry, and sleeps on his side..

I tried going to bed early too, and wearing ear plugs..

I hope in the future I will get used to it and it will come to a point that I won't be able to go to sleep without hearing his cow-mooing sound like snore lullabye :P

any tips on this on how u dealt with this kind of situation..

Thank you and God bless to all

  8. We just visited the SSA today, it's been 3 weeks and we have not received my son's SS card yet.

We have our GC as well. The office told us that my name was mispelled, that's why there was a hold on the release of a number for him, even the parents name on his application must be correct because they counter checked it with DHS and they found out the error was on them. If there is even one letter mispelled they will not issue a number. Good thing we went there and showed them my GC and social security card.

SSA does not verify the parent's names with immigration.

    RM 00202.140 Form SS-5 Item 8.A - Mother's Maiden Name:

    https://secure.ssa.gov/apps10/poms.nsf/lnx/0100202140

    B. Procedure

Verify that the mother's full first, middle, and maiden names are entered in the appropriate spaces. The information provided by the applicant must not be in conflict with the evidence submitted and/or the Numident (SSN) record.

    1. Applications for Original SSNs

"Foreign-born noncitizen applicants may not have documents to substantiate their parents' names. You may accept the allegations of the applicant regarding parent data, absent evidence to the contrary provided the applicant completes either the “self” or the “natural/adoptive parent” block in Item 17. However, when there is a question about the relationship and the person does not have a birth certificate to submit, the SSA employee can assume there is a parent-child relationship if they were issued visas by the Department of State (DOS) at about the same time. The DOS determines that there is a parent-child relationship before issuing a visa. The SSA employee may also assume relationship if the foreign-born noncitizen parent and foreign-born noncitizen child were admitted to the U.S. at the same time and place or they have passports showing the same family name. When accepting an alleged parent name, annotate “alleged” or “no evidence” in the margin by the name."

    RM 00202.142 Form SS-5 Item 8.B. - Mother's SSN:

    https://secure.ssa.gov/apps10/poms.nsf/lnx/0100202142

NOTE: The first and last (or maiden) name listed for each of the parents on the child's SS-5 must exactly match the first and last (or maiden) name shown on that parent's Numident record in either the NAA or NL2 (Name at Birth) fields. If the parent name alleged on the child's SS-5 is correct and does not appear in either of those fields on any iteration of the parent's Numident record, the parent's Numident record must be updated with the correct name before the child's application can be processed.

When the mother's name shown on the SS-5 is different from the name shown on the mother's Numident record, resolve the discrepancy before processing the child's SS-5.

-- If the mother's name is shown incorrectly on the SS-5, but the name is shown correctly on her Numident record and the child's evidence of age, correct the name on the child's SS-5 and annotate it as an “FO write in” if the applicant is not present, otherwise, have the applicant sign the MES generated application showing the correct information.

-- If the mother's maiden name is missing from her Numident, obtain evidence to establish the new data per RM 00203.210 and process an SS-5 for the mother to add this information before inputting the child's application.

-- If the mother's name is shown incorrectly on the child's birth certificate (or other evidence of age), but is shown correctly on her Numident record and on the child's SS-5, do not process the child's SS-5. Advise the parent to obtain a document from the issuing agency with the correct mother's name.

This is based on my experience with my son's application for SS number.

  9. I have no immediate answers or flippant responses, but....

    1. cut the soap bars into 1/8 size back in the workshop, only keep 1 soap cutting in the bathroom.

    2. replace all of your dishes with 5 inch tea saucers. Really - ALL OF THEM.

    Good Luck !

    i definitely agree!

Take Over/ Control the source because you will not be able to beat the habit :)

    God bless!

  10. Does the issue of sending money home (or how much you send) cause tension between you and your spouse? If so, how have you tried to resolve it?

What rules do you and your spouse follow regarding remittances (e.g. money only comes from Filipino spouse's pay)?

How do you determine the amount of money you send back to family in Philippines?

How do you distinguish legitimate needs vs. "nice to have"s?

How do you handle emergencies (real and imagined) that come up?

Have you ever cut any family members off financially? If so, why and for how long?

Money will only cause tension for me and my husband if we give and spend beyond our means.

We are honest with my relatives, if we have extra money I send money to them, even if they don't ask us.

I tell them to keep it and buy what is necessary.

But when we don't have extra I tell them also we can't send.

The money to send is determined by the extra money we have, let's say 50 dollars this month.

    Then 75 dollars next month.

We have emergency money we keep for ourselves but we can always spare them some, like 100 dollars

and that's it. No more no less.

Yes, cutting of a family member is also advised, especially if the terms of suppport has already been met. (example: helping a sister go to school, when she is finished in her studies, she is on her own, And limit only to 4 years, we will not expect for her to stay in college for 6 or 7 years if she is only taking a 4-year course.)

i don't work yet, and I submit to my husband's decisions when it comes to money matters. he always tell me "if we have extra money, they don't need to ask twice.. and when you're already working the money that you want to send to your family will be all up to you.. for now the priority of what I earn is for this family of ours"

My husband is awesome in many ways.. I respect him for that :)

  11. we applied SSN #, and it's been 11 weeks already and yet we've been calling the SSA office every week and still no answer and every time we call them we got different answer. This morning my husband call the SSA again and they told us that they don't know what happened to our request she said that the Immigration Naturalization Service whatsoever will have to verify our request first. So now does anybody here got the same experience? don't know what to do it's like evreything now is pending I can't get driver's license beacause they need ssn no. I got my green card already last september. pls need input

    Gi

Hello Gi!

And they said sorry about the delay.

I advise you to visit them again and show them your GC, and passport and marriage certificate.

Maybe they made an error in entering your name in their database and they could not countercheck it with DHS, thus causing the delay in issuing you a SS number.

Good luck Kapatid and God bless you!

  12. My BC and my son's BC has the same note above its right corner "Copy 1 of 1". But is is considered original because we got it from the NSO office. "Copy" means we have secured a copy of the orignal BC that is compiled in their vaults.

The SS office should not ask for the birth certificate as proof of identification but rather ask for her passport. Passport is the valid and accepted government issued identification that is accepted here in the US.

I was wondering why they asked for the BC as proof of identification.

The aunthenticated BC that she got form Philippines is enough when you show it on the AOS interview.

Keep it with you and have extra photocopies of it.

They asked for mine and my son's BC and showed them our original copies, he asked if he can have it, but I gave him photocopies of it instead because I want to keep my originals, and the interviewer accepted it.

Don't be worry about it, as long as you are submitting bonafide documents you are good to go :)

    GOD BLESS YOU BOTH!

  13. Hi! I was given a citation too for driving without a license and speeding.

I showed up in court, faced the judge, and showed him my valid driver's license from PI

but he said that it was not an international license so it was not valid at all.

He dismissed the charges on speeding because I was only running at 86mph ( Iwas just trying to pass the big big truck, unfortunately the responsible traffic officer was waiting for me, he was hiding at the dark spot of the freeway hehehe)

Now my husband is paying for the charges, 40$ a month for 14 months :(

BTW, we had our interview today, the interviewer did not ask about it but I told him and submitted him a copy the court order because it was above 500$. I wanted to be honest about everything beacuse the truth will set me free hehehe.

He said not to worry cause it was just a misdemeanor traffic violation. Not a felony. Our green cards are coming in two weeks, that's what he said. (THANK GOD!!!!)

thanks for posting here :) I support you! God bless

  14. I might be confuse. When I am having my driving lesson, when I try to yield when I comes to intersection, my husband said I am stopping and not doing yield.

    Anyway, thanks guys!

I definitely understand what you are going through.

To yield is to give the right of way to others, by slowing down or stopping and letting others go first. Another term is "to give way". It includes pedestrians, letting them finish when crossing and to cars who are fast approaching, especially when you are about to enter the freeway, when there is enough space for you enter, you can do so but remember to match your speed with the traffic beacuse you don't want the other cars behind you to hit their breaks because you were slow and it may become a cause of accident.

i think what your husband is trying to say is you tend to make a full stop even when you don't need too, in yielding it is not mandatory to stop but to slow down and be ready to proceed when safe.

I was like that too, it was difficult for me at first to yield because I could not control the gas and clutch on the slowest speed possible but rather I step on the break all the way, fearing I would hit the oncoming cars hehehe.

The encouragement I get when driving is when I see Grandmamas and grandpapas on the steering wheel and they do very well, if they can do it, so can I, and you too :)

Well, keep on driving and God bless you :)

  15. Hello to all of my dear vj family,

    2. I am about to attend my seminar at PRISM on Monday. One of the requirement is Immigrant Data Summary. Where can I find this document? I thought, this is included in the packet together with my visa?

    God bless :star:

I called up SMEF-COW(same with PRISM, they give seminars as well) about the Immigrant data Summary, it does not apply for K1 visa holders. It's not included in the packet.

Btw, I read from some forums they have a terrible time attending seminars at PRISM.

  16. Magandang araw!

I am a mother of a 6 year old boy who just passed our medical exam last february 9-10.

At first I was really worried about it, fearing they will instantly tell us to finish or extend the treatment even before our medical examintaion starts.

My son was diagnosed with primary complex last august 2008 and undergone treatment early of september, he will be finished tkaing Kidz kit 2 by march 10, 2009.

During the immunization interview the kind doctor asked me about his immunization records and so I presented to her the immunization certificate I secured from my pediatrician. It does not need to be notarized, just made sure the doctor's phone number and the hospital where he holds his clinic was in the certificate in case they double check it.

She told me he will undergo a Tuberculin Skin test, I told her he won't need it anymore because he already has been diagnosed, I showed her the x-ray result and medical certificate that I secured from my pediatric endocrinologist (yes, my son is diabetic also since he was 3 1/2 years old). She counted the months my son has undergone medication and told me he will have undergo xray instead. (The medical certificate had the list of the medicines he was taking, including insulin injections, dosage and duration.)

After we had our physical exam and chest xray, we went home.

    February 10, 2009

We came around 11:30 at SLEC, the guard entered my number in the computer and told me I am for immunization, and we had to wait for my son's name to becalled for the next step. I had my immunization done and we waited for quite sometime, after 2 hours, his name was called and we were told he is for immunization (I was amazed by God's intervention). I guess his xray result turned out fine and the medication he was taking everyday (yes, everyday without lapses) worked. We were released and sent home, they said they'll be the one to send our passports and results to the embassy.

CONCLUSION: TO GOD BE ALL THE GLORY! I was doubtful at first about our situation because my son was sick and haven't finished his medication and yet I was humbled by God's sovereignity and power over ALL things. He is ABLE and can do things beyond our control. By the way, at the interview (feb.17) , the pre-screener asked additional evidences, BUT his remarks were disregarded by the consul and the kind old consul considered my evidences and said our visas are approve, no need for additional evidences for him, and he just asked me 3 questions, and it's not even about my son's diabetes or primary complex.

I wanted to share our experience with you guys, to encourage you, when everything seems to lose hope, stay FAITHFUL to God, obey him and submit to him.

Even if you are tempted to lie and do everything in your way, DON'T! For God loves those who obey Him and trust Him, He gives to those who ask and answers to those who call.

A friend of mine suggested for me to lie and tell them my son was not sick, but I refused to lie and told her if it is God's will for us to pass, He will give it to us no matter what our situation is now, I want to be honest because I trust His plans and I believe He is my loving father who only wants the best for me and my son.

Kapatid, God bless you and everything will come to pass.. God holds the time.. He is our a LOVING FATHER.
