  1. We were asked at our interview to verify my son doesnt live with me and that i dont claim him on taxes or pay child support since he is now 18 per the law of NC. We have our final documents....they actually asked if we could get a clear statement as they dont understand the legaleze of the attorny documents....LOL well i gotta say it took me 3 months of reading it myself so i should have already thought of this but dropped the ball now paying for it..

can anybody tell me roughly how long it takes once those documents are received to get the final decision? They kept my husbands passport and issued a pink token for submitting the documents and told him to keep it as the visa will arrive and he will need it to obtain it from the local office. Also said we have no control over ap..you are on mandatory ap....but they never said...your approved bcos they have to verify my houshold size bcos if they include my son (which legally i dont)then i dont make enough...

any ideas would ease my mind a bit....thanks!!!!

Salam Ameena, I believe I know you from the group American and Pakistani couples. Anyhow as for your queation... If the embassy will allow, which I think they will, you can scan the papers and email it to the embassy. This will save ALOT of time. And from the sound of it he has been approved , but will have to go though AP , no telling how long that will take. Took my husband over a year. But ... From what I've seen his took longer than most. InShaAllah your hubby wont take as long !

Best of luck to the both of you :)

  2. I agree with the suggestion of waiting a few more months...

My fiancée worked for the Department of State and currently she conducts interviews at the US embassy for the exchange students and professors coming to USA on a scholarship, as requested by the US consulate whenever they have interviews scheduled....

And my husband worked for the US embassy. He was in AP over a year !

  3. Hello,

My husband called the embassy yesterday, to find out about his visa. And was told that it has been printed and would probably be sent out next week. This makes me so nervous, I don't understand if it's been printed out why, they don't go ahead and send it ? Has anyone else gone though this, and if so any idea why they didn't send it right away ?

    Thanks ...

  4. I wasn't sure where to post this... i'm sorry if this is the wrong place...

There was a bomb blast right outside my husband's home an hour ago... i was wondering if anyone could guide me,, if there was any possible way to get hom here sooner because of this. Is there anyone i can contact. Im so worried and dont know where to turn at this point.

Well ... I've tried looking at your timeline. And it doesn't seem you have one. But can relate to how you must feel. I lived in Islamabad and Swat for almost 2 years. And I've seen the bomb blast, I use to work in the building next to the Marriott !! And like you I want my husband home. I can't give much advice except to contact the embassy concerning your husband safety. If I can be of any help or support let me know.

My prayers are with the both of you

  5. The FORM expires then. The information is a year old. They want updated information.

And another thing which I've noticed, I looked back at our DS-230 , on the top right corner, it say's that it expires 5/31/11. So why are they asking for a new one, could it be maybe they feel the visa won't be issued until after that date ?

Ok I get the information is a year old then. But ...Thats May 31st of 2011 right ? This is Feb of 2011

  6. Hello everyone !!

I often wondered if my day would ever come in me saying this, as I've read so many other people's post and thought to myself how excited they must feel. And what would I say if I was in their place ! Well ... I must say I'm totally at lost for words ! ( As if it doesn't show)

    Anyhow here goes ...

While at work lastnite (I work the nite shift) I got a text message from my husband that he had good news ! The embassy had called him saying his visa is ready !! But ... He needs a new medical, police clearance and DS-230 form. As he had his interview a year ago in Jan. so they have expired. No problem ! we will get them ! But ... When he called to see about getting his medical he was told he'll need a copy of his passport ! Well ... Problem is he can't! cuz the embassy kept his passport ! I'm sure there must be other people that have gone though the same-thing. So ... For those that have , what did you do ?? I've already e mailed the embassy telling them that he needs a copy of his passport (which I'm sure they must know this) !

Oh... And another thing which I've noticed, I looked back at our DS-230 , on the top right corner, it say's that it expires 5/31/11. So why are they asking for a new one, could it be maybe they feel the visa won't be issued until after that date ? I would really appreciated anyone's advice or experience. I'm so scared !!

Anyhow guys ... I pray to Allah GOD give us all the strength and Patience for this journey !!

    Maryam

If I seem like I was rumbling, sorry you felt that !

  7. Amankular,

I have been waiting for 8 months now! I am a UKC married to a USC and filed in London which is even more amazing. Who would of thought that I would be waiting for 8 months while people from Pakistan and India would already have received their visa!

Now that the holiday season is in full swing I am not expecting to hear anything till the second week of January.

Amankular and everyone else, have you hired a lawyer that is looking into your case?

    All the best

I had an attorney file for my husband visa, and I don't see where it helped any. Hopefully after the holidays you'll hear sumthing !

  8. Did you get good news Ally?

I have talked to several lawyers now in the US and it looks like we prob wont go down the mandamus suit for various reasons.

It looks like to might be leaning towards another attorney who will be chasing up our case on our behalf and using all his contacts to get this through!

7months in AP go to try something!

What did the attorneys tell you about mandamus ?

Hope the both of you will be together soon !

  9. I had emailed them with my new phone number and when they replied today to say they got it, it also said send the passport. And at the same time I was reading this, he was entering his passport number in the link and it said the same!

This was day 97. Another guy Mo knows also got his message at the link today. So at least we know they are working on things.

We decided not to send the emails. Just waited it out. But I did send a kinda begging please help us email last week (the 22nd I think) and in the link we use, it says our case was updated on the 23rd. I think it takes about a week to show a change online. I don't know if my begging helped... who knows... LOL!

Hey there !! Congrats, I'll pray that soon he'll has his visa !! Would be a great Christmas gift na !

You spoke of him entering his passport number in a link,I was not aware of a link that you can check on your AP. Would you please pass that link to me.

Best of luck to the both of you

  10. Hi,

I have been in AP for 7 months now since my inerview in London in April. I have contacted my lawyer and he is goign to look into it. I have been in touch with CAIR (Council for American Islamic Relations) and unfortunately they have been unhelpful.

From talking to over 20 lawyers in immigration there seems to be nothing anyone can do except for waiting!

Surely there has to be something!

    Hello again :)

I found the link that tells about WRIT OF MANDAMUS, you'll find it towards the end of the page. Hope this helps you out !

  11. I just hate the whole process with AP. It's not so much that we are in it, but that you can't get a straight answer. Seems no one can even tell me for sure WHERE the case is. With the embassy saying DOS has it and DOS saying the embassy has it.... :bonk: it just makes me want to scream!

I called DOS yesterday to see what I need to do about changing my phone number on record, and the rude operator says "we can't touch your case.... the embassy has it." I guess when I email the embassy they will again tell me that DOS has it! OMG! I know they are closed til Sunday at the embassy, but it will be interesting to see what they say!

And I know we can't wait a year for this to end. Even now we have started making plans and have a deadline in mind for when we will give up and I will move to Jordan.

It just makes me sick that when they tell you that you are in AP, they say it should end in 4-6 weeks. Then in my last email they told me 3 months (which is where we are now) and when my senator inquired, they said less than 5 months.

    God help us all!

Ya I know !! At least they could give us sum kind of info. All they ever tell me "Still pending AP" !!

I found this, which tells about AP. http://www.usaimmigrationattorney.com/SecurityNameChecksAndAdministrativeReview.html

  12. Hey Ally!

I am visiting the US for Thanksgiving and I am here on the Visa Waiver Program. I had no problems at all. I have visited the US with my wife twicw while under AP. I have done exactly the same as you, I have emailed the embassey in London, called DoS in DC and chased up my inlaws Congressman. Still nothing! I hate it when they say "i'm sorry you are still in AP!" blah. Ally, where are you based?

I have been talking to various lawyers in the US and also my lawyer in London and I am seriously contimplating filing a Mandamus Suit. Has anyone does this before??

    Any advice would be great.

Hello, Well... I don't know how long you've been in AP being you have not made a timeline, and your profile offers no info. As for Wit Mandamus, I've done alttle reading on it, and from what I understand it's for people that have been in AP for a very long time, like more than a year. You also have to go to court and they have to decide weather or not to give him a visa. Sorry that I don't know more than that. I'm sure sumone on here can give you more info.

  13. I am in West Virginia. I get so upset with all this. My grandfather was a politician... a state senator and I wish he was still at himself to advise me here.

Let me know if you decide to file that suit. To me it seems like discrimination based on a name. What BS!

Feel free to email me if you want at alicealhosainy@yahoo.com

I would say Happy Thanksgiving, but if you feel the same as me, it's not very happy being away from your hubby ! Anyhow ... Did you see what I had posted on what you said about being unfair based on name ? If not, I will say again. It's because Muhammad, Mohammed is such a popular name. When doing the security check, every time they get a hit on the name they have to investigate further to make sure it's not the same person. At least this is what has been told me, which makes sense.

I pray soon that you will get good news, please pray for us, it's been almost a year in AP ! :(

  14. OMG my husband's middle name is also Mohammed. Tuesday makes 13 weeks since our interview... 91 days tomorrow.

If all this is based on PART of a person's name... it is soooo unfair!

It's because Muhammad, Mohammed is such a popular name. When doing the security check, every time they get a hit on the name they have to investigate further to make sure it's not the same person. At least this is what has been told me, which makes sense.

I have emailed the embassy, called DOS, and had my congressman and senator inquire. Still nothing. The embassy told the senator's office 5 months or less. But they also told us 3 months average in an email earlier this month.

Of course, DOS tells me the embassy controls AP, and the embassy says the exact opposite... it's all up to DOS.

This is the most frustrating thing I have ever been through!

Were you able to get a visitor visa while on AP? I wondered about trying that for my husband to come see me for Christmas.
