  1. The DS-230 was received 5 days ago (on 9/11)...AVR still stuck on "awaiting for the return of biographic forms from the petitioner" message. I called and spoke to an operator yesterday and they told me they didn't see the DS in the system but told me they "got two pieces of mail, one on Thursday and one Friday before that". Those were the I-864 and DS-230 packages.

I see people post "DS-230 receipt generated" in their timeline a day after the paperwork is received.

    I'm just worried...so:

    1. What's going on with my I-864 package? I accidentally mailed it without a barcode coversheet (I made up a cover letter and pasted the barcode on that...). Should it show up in NVC system at SOME point in time before it's approved? It's been now close to 1.5 weeks, I'm seriously beginning to be afraid of an RFE at some point since NVC operators can't even tell which packet of paperwork they received.......Is that normal?

    2. I did mail DS-230 with the barcode sheet. So what's taking so long to even generate a receipt.

Thanks for your help. It's been nervewrecking 8 months.

I mailed I-864 and DS-230 together (in one mail) and now AVR still says "received biographic form ... but still waiting for Affidavit form ...". I talked to live rep and was told it would take time for NVC to enter that info into system.

So I guess that is normal in your case. But we need to keep checking with NVC to make sure both are in the system.

  2. Hi, I kept calling NVC for the IIN but was told repeatedly that it would be on the AOS or IV bill I received.

So I carefully checked the AOS bill and IV bill. No other number except my case number on AOS bill. On IV bill, however, there is a 9-digit number after my case number under the bar-code. It looks like: "GUZ2008xxxxxx-yyyyyyyyy". Why it is 9-digits, not 8? Is it the IIN?

    Thanks a lot.

  3. I know the questions might be a little silly, but just want to be sure

    1. The downloaded I-864 has total of 19 pages, including instruction and form itself. When submitting I-864, do you guys send all 19 pages or just the 8 pages of read I-864 Form part?

    2. Can I print the I-864 Form in double-side if my printer is capable of?

    Thanks a lot.

  4. Mine is K1 visa, what i sent to NVC regarding package 3 are as below.

    1, Completed DS-230, Part I

    2, Completed OF-169

    3, EMS label

Regarding your #2, i don't know. your #4, i think it is new request; because i didn't see it in my package.

    Wish you good luck!

Eileenho, what do you mean by "Completed OF-169"? As I know OF-169 is just an instruction or checklist, not a form. Did you just send the OF-169 itself with docs marked? Or you were required to send in all actual docs listed on OF-169?

    Really appreciate your replies!

  5. Hello, can someone clarify if the followings are correct:

Accompanying family member of principal applicant: family member on the same visa petition with the principal applicant and they come to US together.

Following-to-join family member of principal applicant: family member on the same visa petition with the principal applicant but comes to US within the six months after principal applicant arrives US.

If a family member filed separate I-130, he CANNOT be either an accompanying family member or following-to-join family member. He himself is the principal applicant in his own case and needs to file a separate visa petition.

    Thanks a lot.

Yes, each one is their own principal applicant. As far as I know with the I-130 (CR1/IR1) route there is no such thing as an accompanying or following to join family member. Other visas may have accompanying children that derive status, but not the immediate relative visa.

I asked this same question in a phone conversation with USCIS. The lady told me to put my name on that line.

Which line you refer to? On which form?

  7. Hi guys and gals. I am sending off my I-864 package on tuesday. Should I bind it all together like in the I-130 package or just leave it all lose but in order as per my cover letter?

I am about to send my I-864 to NVC too. Acording to NVC, all pages need to be in the correct order and stapled together. So I guess we have to use follow what NVC says.

I got one problem  . The envelop provided by NVC is not big enough to fit all pages of I-864 package. I wonder if I can use a bigger envelop of my own and just put NVC's envelop in the package.

  8. I am from China, i went over your process. But i didn't see the instruction about sending 2 visa photo ID to NVC. Have you gotten the 3rd package yet? What i did in April 2008, i just finished form DS-230 PART 1 and OF 169 (mark the docs you will have for interview, but don't send any other docs to NVC otherwise they will destory them, then you will have to prepared again), and a empty EMS mail envelop with Addressed required.

Pls read the instruction very carefully.

    Wish you good luck!

PS, i am in USA now!

Thanks eileenho. Yes, I received Packet 3 from NVC asking me to submit DS-230. An OF-169 from Guangzhou is also included. The instruction from NVC does not list 2 passport photos at all. But on OF-169 the 2 passport photos are among the docs that need to be brought to interview by the beneficiary.

So based on your experience, please confirm that I ONLY need to send the following docs to send to NVC along with DS-230:

    1. Completed DS-230, Part I

    2. Copy of biographic data page from beneficiary's passport

    3. EMS label from China Post Office

    4. Packet 3 Supplemental Information Sheet ( http://travel.state.gov/pdf/std_pk3_supple...3-0001-0801.pdf ).

#4 maybe the new requirement from Guangzhou. And we need to collect all docs listed on OF-169 for the interview.

    Your help is greatly appreciated.

  9. I just noticed that conflict on the OF-169. It say on the main instructions not to send in the supporting documents at this time, which is normal, but on the Mailing Address Label section it does say to send it. I just double checked and you do need to send the EMS label now to NVC. You need to go to a China Post office and get a domestic EMS label. Follow the instruction on OF-169 when filling it out.

    JBHypno

Thanks eileenho :star: . I am clear now and will get a EMS label from China.

JBHypno, did you find out where should we send the 2 passport photos of beneficiary on OF-169 for IV? We had discussion of this on another thread on this forum. I am wondering if the passport photos should be sent to NVC along with DS-230 Part I OR they need to be brought to interview later by the beneficiary. It is very confusing on OF-169.

  10. Yes, you do have to send 2 passport photos with 230.

NVC instructions are confusing sometimes, depending where you get them from, here is the link:

    Appointment NVC Processing

    Thanks, Fedup.

I am following "Standard NVC Processing" instruction because of Consulate in China. Yours I guess was the "Appointment NVC Processing". They are quite different.

However, in both "Standard NVC Processing" and "Appointment NVC Processing" instructions, I did not see any mention to where or when to send the passport photos. Really confused . Will call NVC tomorrow to clarify.

  11. I am following the "Standard NVC Processing" instructions ( http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3187.html ) to assembly DS-230 package.

I wonder if I need to send 2 passport photos along with DS-230 Part I to NVC. The NVC instruction does not even mention the photos. However, on James's Shortcuts ( http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/Jame%27s_Shortcut ), he said that 'As of 1-1-2008 NVC is requesting 2 passport photos be returned with the DS-230'.

    Anyone has experience on this?

    Thanks a lot.

  12. Hi Guys,

My love one is in China and I am preparing for DS-230 too to send to NVC.

From reading the forum, it seems we only need to send the following items to NVC for DS-230:

    1. DS-230 Part I

    2. Copy of biographic data page of beneficiary's passport

    3. Packet 3 Supplemental Information Sheet from Guangzhou Consulate (http://travel.state.gov/pdf/std_pk3_supplements/GUZ-PK3-0001-0801.pdf)

All other documents (i.e. marriage cert., birth cert., etc) will be submitted at interview.

Do I miss something? I just want to be prepared!

    Thanks a lot.

  13. Can anyone with IR1/CR1 petition in Guangzhou, China, help me?

Within the Applicant Document Process (DS-230) package from NVC, there is an "IV Instruction" from Guangzhou Consulate. It says I only need to return DS-230 part I and a mailing address label to NVC. Nothing more, right?

The address label is an EMS label from China Post Office. How do I get it here, online? Or do I have to ask my spouse to send one from China (that's a pain and takes long time)? How did you guys handle this??

    Thanks for your help.

  14. I am a US citizen so I was required to file separate I-130s for my spouse and child. I believe later they will have separate visa petitions at NVC and Consulate too. Am I right?

Now I am assembling I-864 for my spouse’s case at NVC (my child’s case is still pending with USCIS). Questions:

    a. I-864 instructions say that “Separate affidavits of support are required for intending immigrants for whom different Form I-130 petitions were filed”. So my child is NOT the accompanying dependent of the principal immigrant (my spouse) in this case. With that said, should I include my child in Item 9 on I-864?

    b. If I do not include my child in my spouse’s I-864, do I have to submit another set of I-864 to NVC later for my child’s case?

Thanks a lot for your help!

  15. :innocent: Try to make it short:

    1) I submitted I-130 for my wife through an attorney back in January 08. I paid the attorney for handling I-130 case only. In June 08, my wife's I-130 was approved by USCIS and forwarded to NVC (along with attorney's info).

    2) In July 08, NVC assigned the case number and sent the I-864 fee bill AND immigration visa fee bill TOGETHER to the attorney's office. The attorney then forwarded the package to me and told me to write a letter and tell NVC that the attorney's office would not represent me in this visa case.

    3) In late July 08, I sent two money orders for both I-864 fee and immigration visa fee to NVC, along with letter asking NVC to send future package directly to me. Later I confirmed that both money orders had been cashed in early August 08.

Now three weeks passed, I have not received anything from NVC.

From reading the threads in the forum I just found that I supposed to take the path by first receiving the "Choice of Agent" (Form DS-3032) from NVC, followed by the bills and forms. But because of the former attorney, I started on a different (wrong?) path and now the steps are mixed up.

What should I do to correct this with NVC? Do I still need to submit DS-3032 even I already paid all the fees?

    Thanks all for your help!
