  1. i did tell them i wanted to import it and they didn't do anything, i gave them the letter i had from Kia and everything and like i said they just walked around with it LOL one of the officers just told me that all they could do was just stamp it that they saw it and it was ok but nothing to do with the importation of it mind you now it was a Saturday and the "guy" who does it wasn't there but i figured someone would have looked it up to do it. By the sounds of it from the DMV they just do a check on the Vin and issue the tags but i don't know if thats the correct way for me to do it, Just trying to do things right.

  2. sorry to be bumping an old thread but when i crossed last saturday nothing was done with my car they looked at it and said go to the dmv in the state and if anything declare it at customs at the nearest airport, what was supposed to happen at the POE? i had a compliance letter that i showed them and they walked around with it for a while and that was that. the officer that activated my visa did take the make model and Vin # so i'm stuck as to what to do now since i can't do anything until my SSN card gets here, Ohio requires it for license and tags/registration of my car. Technically if i go to the DMV they do an out of state inspection and call it done but the problem is the car was never "officially" imported to my knowledge anyways. I don't want to encounter problems visiting Canada and what not.

  3. for what its worth here is the breakdown for my rental of a 14' uhaul truck going from pickering, ontario to mount vernon, ohio, now keep in mind she told me that i would get a discounted rate because they needed trucks of this size in that region, almost as if i was doing uhual a favor by driving it 1 way.

    Auto Transport $29.25

    Furniture Pads $10.00

    14' Moving Van $386.40

The rate includes 3 day(s) and 791 kilometers

  4. Congrats , it doesn't take long at all to Ontario, my interview was monday and i got my express post mailer back this morning already. I was surprised to get it so soon

    Good Luck with the move.

  5. Review also in my timeline- process was DCF Toronto if its anymore helpful

ok here is my review of the interview that took place feb 1, 2010. I'll be as thorough as possible and very exact LOL

i don't wear a watch well i forgot it so most times are estimates (sorry LOL)

i know we got to the consulate at around 7 am and there were already 3 other couples already waiting, i know the earliest 2 couples where there 20 minutes before my wife and i arrived. COLD COLD COLD i think by the time we were let in we were all complaining that we couldn't feel out toes LOL. I think the doors opened maybe around 7:45am. Went through security, showed our passports and interview letters, also was given a ticket for my keys as the remote was an electronic and thats a no no in the consulate and were given our letters (D - 4th in line) and told to go down the stairs and wait outside the elevator (passport booth here if pictures forgotten or not taken 4 poses for 4$) for a guard to take us up to floor 19. In the elevator the guard asks us for our interview letters and directs us to sit in an area and wait to be paged to windows 9-12. At this time it was a little after 8 before the first couple was called then in order from there. We were called at around 8:30 to window 11. Once there we handed over everything we had in the order she wanted it, birth certificate, marriage certificate and you know the rest, everything was handed over except the proof of domicile that comes later, there she asked my wife (US citizen) when she was moving back, thats the only question she asked. Once she gets all of this she gives us a paper and tells us to go pay the 400.00 at the cashier and wait to be called back to the window. Once paid and called back i handed over the receipt and she took my finger prints, told us to go sit back down and wait to be called into rooms 6-8 the interview rooms. From here the time line gets mixed i think it was 9:15 or 9:20am we get called after the other couples were. Walk in to the room say hello to the CO hang up our jackets and we are off. He began by returning the originals i had given the first lady at window 11. Then begins the questioning

    Q-how we met

    A-online

    Q-what website

    A-yahoo chat

Q-when we met face to face

    A-april 8, 2000

    Q-who proposed to who

    A-i proposed to my wife

    Q-how did i propose

A-i stumbled here because i didn't know how specific to get so i began by saying it was late at night because we got stuck watching a stupid movie and i fell asleep LOL so i proposed to her in my pajamas in her bedroom, he cracked a smile and a chuckle since both my wife and i got a bit embarrassed about our story. LOL :)

    Q- what day

A- ummm, ummm its sketchy since it was after midnight so it was officially time wise it was may 18, the year was 2001 but my wife and i weren't sure since we were bouncing back and forth the year i would say 2001 she would say 2002 again he smiled and i said i dunno it was a while ago LOL

Q- when did you get married

    A-may 15, 2004

Q- what do i do for a living, are you a pharmacists

    A- no i'm a pharmacy technician

that was it for the together questions the rest were all for my wife.

Q- where will you be living

    A- mount vernon ohio

    Q- where in mount vernon

A- with my aunt and uncle we will be renting

Q- do you have a lease agreement

A- yes here you go, he kept it after asking us if it was ok.

Q- grabbing her uncles AOS, what does your uncle do

A- wife answers even though it clearly states in AOS, occupation

Q- when will you be moving back.

A- wife answered perfectly "i will be moving back Feb 21, 2009 on a one way plane ticket one day before my PR card expires on the 22nd"

Q- do you have your ticket

A- we hand over a copy of her itinerary and a copy of her PR card showing the expiry date.

Q- where do you work here in canada

A- again perfect answer " i work for rogers but i have resigned and my last day of work will be the 13th"

Q- do you have a letter from your employer

A- handed over the letter Rogers wrote my wife confirming her last day of work was the 13th and that she had indeed resigned

Q-Looks to me and asks when i will be moving back

A- i started laughing and said i don't know since i can't quit yet because i don't know what will happen today, CO smiles and types something into computer.

From here there is a brief silence and he begins by saying you will get your visa in about 2 weeks, holds up a paper outlining what comes next and says WELCOME TO AMERICA :kicking: HUGE SIGH FROM THE BOTH OF US followed by really? LOL then he begins to tell me about whats will be in my passport and once i cross thats it i've landed and everything begins to be processed. He did tell me that i can start working just with the visa that is in the passport but its up to the employer to actually hire me based on that or not.

Overall From start to finish the process was very stressful at times and very easy at others. The final stretch for the interview was the worst because of making sure we had everything and also hoping we could prove domicile since that seemed like a stumbling block for others recently. We both went into the interview expecting to be denied due to domicile but were very happy to walk out of the consulate finished and ready to move on. Proving domicile seemed to be the easiest thing and i think my wife answered her key questions very well, we had bank statements and letters of attempts to get a home loan and credit card and also a letter from Kia of compliance for our car to be imported into the US and that was never brought out of our little folder as we didn't need to show it. So this part of our journey is over and its time for the next phase to begin a big huge thank you to this site and everyone who contributes to questions asked and to those that ask the same questions that i had as it made finding answers easier LOL.

    Thank You visajourney.com

    Pablo & Debbie

  6. Not necessarily, unless they were like the first 4 in line :P
    so which letter were you?

yes in fact we were letter D LOL the Ohio couple i guess, there was the couple from BC they did well, the couple moving to NJ they got it, then the couple from St. Catherines not sure if they got theirs or not because when we walked out they were already across the street. Anyways we got ours too WOOHOO. Thanks Trailmix for your help and suggestions.

  7. well here i am in room 807 in montreal and just writing to thank everyone here for all your advice as i guess its out of my hands now LOL and in the hands of the interviewer monday morning. Going to go over my info again and go to bed i will update this thread after the interview either from here or when i get home. Hopefully its a happy 5 hour drive back home LOL

  8. when i did DCF here in toronto last april i don't remember an envelope, sent in copies then went to the consulate with originals, the lady at the booth makes sure all originals are there that correspond with the copies and stamps them, just remember whatever you send in you have originals. From there it was just waiting for the ds-230 and checklist then the interview letter.

  9. Well i'll figure that i will post my review for the physical here.

I had a plan to arrive early and i suggest anyone going to do their medical here in toronto arrive early before the doors open at 6:30am. I missed the 5:26am go-train from pickering so i was stuck to get there later than what i wanted to. I arrived at 7am walked up the the glass shielded counter and handed my interview letter to the attendant then was asked to move to the waiting room, as a had feared by missing the early train the waiting room was PACKED!!!! right down to the childrens play chairs that are not comfy to sit in LOL. From here things and timings get sketchy since i didn't have a watch, probably why i missed the train in the first place LOL So after what seemed like an eternity my name was called and all i heard was my name and follow me and before i could look up the person i was to follow was gone, this happened often so pay attention LOL i was in and out of sleep. The first call was for paying and documents passport and photos and vaccines records or titers test. From there it was back to a narrow hallway for a chest x-ray, i had to either put my chain in my mouth or take it off i took it off, from here i went to the lab for blood work, don't forget to grab all your paper work as you move along to the different stations. After blood work it was back to the waiting room until my name was called again. Again in and out of sleep felt like forever, waiting room still full got a grown up chair this time woohoo...armrests LOL Then my name gets called for my actual physical i get into a room a nurse takes my BP asks my height and weight but never actually takes it and tells me to get naked and put on the blue gown opening to the back, thanks for the info its not like i wanted my junk hanging out the front LOL. From here a female doctor walked in and began to ask me questions regarding my medical history and what not after that was done she left then a male doctor examines me and says ok take your stuff and don't forget to check out when you leave. There is a little piece of paper you get when you pay that lists everything that needs to be done, you hand that little paper at check out. At check out the time was 9:45am so from start to finish it was close to 3 hours. The pick up wich was yesterday went much simpler, walk up to counter go to the end of the hall to the right, give my name and then 2 packs one sealed DO NOT OPEN i was told and my x-ray.

So lessons to be learned arrive early as planned and oh yeah wear a damn watch LOL

  10. wife and i booked the dauphin as well form hotels.ca $108.51 for this weekend, interview is on monday. Not looking foward to the drive to montreal but i guess it could be worse. Oh yeah and this thread helped alot as i was leaning toward letour but decided that the possibilities of bed bugs wasn't gonna help my chances. LOL

  11. Well i must admit i have never gone into something expecting to be denied but i think my interview on the 1st will be denied LOL since my wife is still here in Canada with me and the evidence of domicile is enough to what use to be enough but i guess not anymore. I think i will just make sure that everything else is in tip top order and will have to wait until my wife moves back to Ohio and send enough evidence that can meet domicile to the standards of whoever interviews us. Hoepfully the interviewer is having a REALLY good day or maybe not since its a Monday morning LOL....oh well....i got nothing but time i guess. :)

  12. i received my interview letter friday the 15th the letter was dated december 7, my interview is Feb 1 that leaves me 2 weeks to get my physical and i can't get through to Dr. Seiden's office here in Toronto to book a physical, i have left a nu,ber of messeges and emails, I'm also in Toronto. What do i do? I don't want to reschedule my interview if i can help it, and i don't have the money to try out the other panel doctors in BC or in Montreal. Man the waiting was bad enough now this stress is a bit much LOL anyways this sucks but i guess it could be worse....

  13. Ok according to the processing timeline for the interview appointment that said 4 to 6 months from sending in the 230 and checklist, if all went well the letter will be arriving this month or next month. I should mention i'm doing DCF here in Toronto. Our co-sponsors just filed for bankruptcy. Now i have their previous 3 years tax returns and both of their I-864's filled out along with my wife's (petioner) they are all dated August wich was when i sent back the 230 and the checklist. Does what happened now affect them as co-sponsors? is there a background check? also if my wife in a US bank account has enough savings that surpass the poverty line for a household of 2 is that enough where she can be the sole sponsor? OR should i play it safe and look for another co-sponsor?

any responses will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  14. she sent in an absontee ballot in last election but i don't think there is any record of that, anyhow thanks for the response. Unfortunately i just got off the phone with my wife and a bigger problem has arisen, our co-sponsors have just filed for bankruptcy. I will post on the general board and see the responses.

  15. now if at the interview they see that her PR card is expired would that help any or not really make a difference? Do they look at her PR card and assume why does she have one if she will be living in the US. right now all i have is a rental agreement from her aunt, bank statements from account in Ohio and a upack estimate but hopefully once my wife moves i'll have some paystubs from her and told her to visit a doctor and get some sort of commitment that thats her family doctor and maybe renew her State ID. Just want to make sure i got everything i need so that i am not rejected on the first try.

Well i guess coming back isn't a big deal since she can use her american passport to cross and jsut drop off her old card and pick up the new one.
