    Did you notice the price of the certificate holder went from $10 before to $5 after the ceremony?

    No I did not notice it because I did not buy one. I bought one for my wife when she naturalized four years ago and it was a waste of money because she did not use it. Her certificate is now in a bank safebox.

    Did Aicha apply for her passport yet?

    I applied for mine by regular processing on 01/29/09 at a local post office.

    All done! Aicha is a citizen. She and 5,995 other people took their oath around 2:00pm at the LA Convention Center today.

    Now to get a passport.

    Nope. I seem to recall he had an earlier time, but it would've been pretty difficult finding him among nearly 6,000 people.

    Hahaha! Yes, I had my oath in the morning. There were 6,118 new US citizens that morning.

    I received my Oath letter today for 01/29/09 at 8 am at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Happy New Year to everyone!

    Aicha received hers for the 29th as well, but for some courthouse in LA.

    Woo hoo! It's almost over!

    Congratulations! The courthouse will be the Los Angeles Convention Center. There's no other venue for the oath ceremony for January 29, 2009. Cheers!

    Hey,

    my Boyfriend sent in on 1st Sept. his N400. He got NOA on the 10th of Sept. and on the 12th of Sept. NOA 2 Biometrics.

    But the NOA1 Said estimate Schedule for Interview is gonna be 548 days...

    How can that match with the quick process of NOA 2?

    Biometrics notice usually arrives shortly after the receipt notice. The waiting time for the interview depends on your district office. At this time, 548 days is a very conservative estimate by USCIS. They probably include the time needed in processing name checks where some applicants get stuck in name check for months or in some cases for more than a year.

    Permanent resident but divorced, want to apply for citizenship

    My sister has her 10-year green card. She was granted the permanent resident status more than 3 years ago. Since it's been more than 3 years, she was thinking to apply for naturalization to get her US citizenship. The problem is she was divorced. Her husband was the one who petitioned the divorced.

    Does anybody have the same experience like my sister?

    I also have few questions I' d like to ask:

    1.) Since she wasn't married anymore. Can she still apply for naturalization now or she needs to wait for 5 years (5 years from approval of her permanent resident)?

    2.) She removed her conditional GC in Texas, but now she lives in california. Does she need to request address change to USCIS before applying for naturalization?

    3.) Is it better to hire an immigration attorney for her naturalization case (considering she wasn't married anymore)?

    1. She has to wait 5 years minus 90 days (from the date she was admitted as permanent resident) to apply for naturalization.

    2. She has to notify USCIS of her change of address as soon as possible. It's the law. She can get the form online.

    3. It is not necessary for her to hire an immigration lawyer. Please have her read and understand the Guide to Naturalization.

    actually, i am done with oath last thursday. summarizing my n400 journey, it is amazingly fast (6 months!!!)!!! thanks for everyone's support.

    I got my oath ceremony letter today, scheduled for Sep 25th, a little later than I expected but well, im still happy for it! And looks like we are all done with our journey, congratulations for all :dance:

    Arrest Question

    Hi there,

    I was arrested twice when I was younger, I have no criminal record. Unfortunately I did have to spend 3 days in jail.(Over the weekend) My concern is that this December I become eligible to apply for citizenship. I was wondering should I even bother? I am concerned that I may be denied, even though I have no criminal record. Can anyone give me some insight? Also has anyone applied with an arrest record, and what was your outcome?

    You will have to declare your arrests on your N-400 application and get certified copies of court dispositions on those arrests. Non-disclosure of these facts is considered dishonesty by USCIS and may cause them to deny your application if they find out about them on the basis of lack of good moral character.

    About 4 months for me - see timeline below.

    I did finger prints in June and have the interview on 10/29. I just got my appointment letter in the mail last week. It should take me about 6 months in total to complete the N-400 process. I was expecting about a year, so it is a lot quicker than I thought.

    That's very good news! It is great to hear that LA DO is not that slow after all. Hurray!!!

    By the way, did you get the yellow letter titled "Case File Review Notice/Interview Document Check List"? If you did, when did you get it? I got mine on 08/08/08.

    I also noticed that there are very few LA filers who are adding their information on this board. I wished more filers from my fast-moving DO;) will post their timelines here. Is it because the timelines look very discouraging for my DO? Or that I am the only one eagerly waiting:) I feel so all alone:(

    I also got the same letter from Lee's Summit, MO, on 08/08/08. I would have fainted if the Interview Letter was there too because my priority date was 07/11/08. It would have been too good to be true. Well, I guess my wait is afoot:)

    July 10, 2008 – Mailed N-400 application through USPS Express Mail

    July 11, 2008 – Application received at California Service Center per USPS tracking

    July 15, 2008 – Check payment cleared

    July 18, 2008 – Received in the mail “Receipt and Transfer Notice” Form I-797C

    Notice date: 07/16/08 Received date: 07/11/08 Priority date: 07/11/08

    I also received the same letter from Lee's Summit, MO last week. I was excited that I may be getting my interview letter soon. I've been checking my mailbox eagerly every day but it's not there yet.

    My N-400 PD is 07/11/08 at CSC Los Angeles DO. Had my fingerprints done 08/01/08. I can't wait to get that Interview Letter if it's ever coming soon!

    After a complete review of your file and Application for Naturalization (Form N-400), this office has found additional documentation may be needed. Unless previously submitted, please bring the below requested documents to your naturalization interview. etc etc

    My issue with this notice is not what I need to bring to the interview, rather I have not received an interview letter yet - is this normal? Do they always send this notice before they send interview notice, or is it likely that I have already been sent an interview notice and it has been lost by my faithful friends at USPS? Any knowledge or experience of this scenario would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
