    I need questions answered please regarding a joint sponsor. I am going to need a joint sponsor. The joint sponsor does not live at the same household. The joint sponsor is married and filed jointly for year 2007. I am filling out I864 the questions are:

    Does the joint sponsor use form I864?

    Since he filed jointly which automatically includes the wife’s income, does his spouse also need to fill out the sponsorship form? Or just the I864 from the joint sponsor will do? This is a little confusing.

    Please advice.

    1. Yes, joint sponsor must fill out an I-864, which also includes their tax return info.
    2. Joint sponsor's wife will need to fill out and I-864A since she is a household member of the joint sponsor. They can't consider the joint income unless they have an I-864A for her.

    Thank you for responding. Well, the joint sponsor's income is in the six digits. If he does not include his wife's income for Q 24/part b and only counts his income from Q 23, will the wife still need to fill out the I864A? I'm trying not to delay this any longer as I already have his I864 ready to go.

  3. Hello everyone here at VJ,

    I am new to the forum and am seeking some advice. My CR1 petition was approved in June of 2008 from CSC and is currently at NVC. I was compiling my supporting documents for I864 and have a few questions. I have a partnership in a small consulting firm. Most of my business documents still have my maiden name. I just recently started the process of having my name changed to my married name as I got married in Feb 2008.

    Since the tax return from 2007 and the business license show my maiden name do I need to write a letter of explanation to NVC stating that I am in the process of having my name changed on my business documents or will they figure it out since I recently got married? What should be included in the letter?

    Also, for self employment in a partership what supporting documents do I need to send?

    Any advice will be helpful! Thank you.
