  1. I believe as long as everything passes (Medical + Interview) then you can be handed your K1 and walk out the door. There have been people here on the forums who had to fulfill one or more requirements before the K1 would be provided. Examples of such things might have included documentation involving a divorce, additional medical stuff, whatever. Because you can't be 100% sure until you have the K1 in your hand, you can't make hard and fast dates for things like travel, weddings etc. It all depends on having the K1 approved and in your hand (and your big brown envelope). In my case, the doctor required my fiancee take care of a list of things for the medical side and until that was all turned in and satisfied, we had to wait on the K1. It delayed us by exactly 3 months getting the K1. Hopefully you'll be able to take yours with you directly after the interview.

Well, I'm on IR1 and I've passed the medical and got the vaccinations and we have all the papers, I can't imagine what else they could ask for. Don't really have any plans to make either, since we've been married for years, just wanted to go "home" for Christmas. With some luck, it might happen.

  2. I just got my interview date, it's on December 15.

Such a long wait, we posted Packet 3 on 25th August. We'll be cutting it very close, the lease on our flat runs out on Dec. 20 and we really want to get to the US by Christmas. Seems like a logistical nightmare.

What is the fastest the visa can be delivered after the interview? Don't even want to think about the possibility of something going wrong and being delayed even longer.

  3. We sent Packet 3 on the 25th August and have not heard back, getting worried. Just read up this thread and emailed the embassy at the address LondonConsular@state.gov, got an automated reply that email was deleted without reading. I guess we'll have to phone them.

I just got a reply to the email I sent 10 days ago, it didn't get deleted after all.

"Thank you for your email correspondence.

The Immigrant Visa Unit is awaiting receipt of a medical report in your case. If you have not yet scheduled a medical examination with the Embassy’s panel physician, Knightsbridge Doctors, information on how to do so is available from the Embassy website, here. If you have already attended a medical examination, you ay wish to contact the panel physician directly to confirm that your medical report has been forwarded to the Embassy.

As soon as the required medical report has been received, an immigrant visa interview will be scheduled for you."

I had my medical yesterday, so things should start moving soon.

  4. I had my medical yesterday, it was quick and simple, the whole thing took 30 minutes. There was hardly any waiting time, as soon as I had filled out the form for the reception I was called in to discuss the vaccinations, then to the next room to take the x-ray, then maybe a 3 minute wait and I was called in to see the doctor. Everyone was very nice and friendly.

I wish I had my vaccinations done there and then though, I took a letter for my GP to get tetanus and MMR jabs, called the surgery expecting it to be a simple matter and was told that I'd have to wait at least 2 weeks for an appointment with the travel clinic. Very frustrated. I'd advise everyone to get their vaccinations BEFORE the medical.

  5. Hey, did you manage to book your medical. I can't believe they have change their policy. I need to book mine too. Has anyone gone through the interview without booking the medical recently?

Booked the medical for next week, the lady on the phone said she could book me in on any day and any time I wanted, I wish my GP was so easy to see!

Let's just hope that I'll get my interview appointment soon after I've done the medical, we want to be able to move before the end of the year. Feeling a bit better about it now.

  6. We sent our packet 3 on August 25 and expected to have the interview letter by now, it's been 7 weeks. So today I'm reading through FAQ's on the embassy website and this bit sticks out:

"Please note that you will not receive notification of the date and time of the visa interview until the Immigrant Visa Unit has received the results of the medical examination."

I am now mortified because all this time I've been waiting for the interview appointment before I schedule the medical, does this mean I've just wasted us 1.5 months? The instructions for the medical say that it is advisable to book it before but not compulsory!

I've been on the phone trying to book the appointment but the number is constantly busy, hope I can get it booked asap.

Does anyone know if we'll have to wait another month after the medical for the interview appointment or it will be faster?

If it helps, I'm IR1 and DCF in London.

  7. It's much better to call the Department of State instead of the Embassy as it costs money to call the embassy. The DOS has the same info the Embassy does. Whoever is in the US can call (202) 633-1225, press 1, then press 0 to talk to a person.

Thanks for the advice! We're both in the UK though, would someone else be able to call for us, for instance parents-in-law? Or would they not give them the info? I imagine it would cost a fortune to call the US from the UK landline, although to be honest I have no idea, I've never called a US phone number.

How do you find out when P3 is logged?
