  1. I passed my interview today july 27th at bloomington, MN. My original interview was on june 23rd but i re-scheduled my interview because me and my wife were overseas on vacation..i had brought bunch of new documents such as recent bank statements and bills on top of old ones, student loan letters, tax transcripts, marriage certificate, 2 passport photos. The IO was very cool dude, he called my name, i went with him, first thing he asked me to do was stand and raise my hand and say i will say nothing but the truth.. took seat. he had my file on his table with 2 passport photos. asked me for my interview letter, Green cards, selective service card, state id. He then confirmed my name, address, DOB, SSN, my wife's name, her employer and job ( XYZ hospital & RN).. I had to write my full name 3 times in a paper box provided. asked for additional evidence, i gave him recent + old bank statements, our apartment lease, student loans, recently oversea trip itinerary, he went through it and said thats enough. i didn't had to show him my phone bills, nor marriage certificate( little weird), nor wife's passport or citizen certificate,.. also didn't need my passport photo he already had them. he made photocopies of my green card , selective service card and state id. then on to civic test. had to read "Abraham Lincoln freed the slaves".. something something.very simple and write "lincoln was the president during civil war".

    then asked me following questions:

    1. delcaration of independence written? i screwed this one and said 1787 got confused for constitution written date.the correct answer is july 4 1776.. but got rest all right. :)

    2. people sold as slaves? = africans

    3. we elect president for how many years? = 4 yrs

    4. longest river in usa? = mississippi river

    5. present president ?= barrack obama

    6. first ten amendments to constitution? = bill of rights

    7. speaker of the house?= nancy pelosi

he gave me a letter saying "u passed the interview and recommend for approval". He also said that my oath ceremony would be couple of weeks. I asked if i can get oath at earlier date since my classes start on Aug 1st. then he said latest oath ceremony is on Aug. 4th & asked if its okay , i said thats fine with me.. i shook his hand and thanked him and he was like " congratulations and good luck".. told me to wait outside and wait for name to be called and collect the oath ceremony letter. after 30 mins of waiting i got my oath ceremony letter.

    thats about it..

Thanks to all the people here at VJ who are always helpful. Although I am not famous here (lol) but i've been secretly following you guys.. I guess my journey is almost over.and definitely it has been a pleasant one. will post about my oath ceremony.

once again thanks a lot everyone. you guys rock!!

  2. I have my interview end of this July, i sent 2006, 2007 & 2008 tax transcripts when I applied for n-400. My question is should I take with me the same transcript years or 2007 to 2009 (since tax year has just passed) to my interview?

Is form 1722 same as tax transcripts? Also i would appreciate you telling me how to get hold of IRS representative to request tax transcripts? I've tried calling 800-829-1040 everything is automated messages..(I've forgotten how to do it..)

    thanks a bunch

  3. These is the list of items I sent. You can see some items were duplication though. Sometimes you may not know what actually they want. But as has been already suggested, go by what is asked.Looks like your list is ok. Anyways, I received a notice of acceptance via text message and email(included form G-1145).

    1. Personal cheque for US $675.00

    2. Completed, signed and dated N-400 application form

    3. Photocopy of both sides of permanent resident card

    4. Two identical color passport size photographs(name in pencil at back)

    5. Copy of spouse’s birth certificate

    6. Copy of spouse’s current passport(inside of front cover and signature page)

    7. Copy of current marriage certificate

    8. Copy of spouse’s vital records

    9. Copy of applicant’s vital records

    10. Copy of IRS tax transcripts (2007,2008 and 2009)

    11. Form G-1145( E-Notification of Application/petition Acceptance)

    Hope this help.

    thank you all for prompt responses. I sent the package today & feel pretty confident. Thanks sand for the info on G1145 form, i would have never known. you guys were very helpful. as for me its now a waiting game. :}

  4. hello,

I'm getting ready to apply for citizenship based on 3 yrs of marriage. here is what I've so far:

    1. photocopy of Green card(both sides)

    2. two passport size photos labelled with pen on back

    3. check of $675

    4. copy of my wife's US passport(inside cover & signature)

    5. IRS tax transcripts of 2006, 2007, 2008

    6. copy of marriage certificate

    7. filled N-400 form

Am i missing anything else? labeling photos with pen instead of pencil, will that matter? its just that pencil will not write well on back of photos.

Also I opened the envelopes that contained tax transcripts, i hope they will still accept them? and lastly how would you recommend i send the package through? appreciate your help!

  5. I gave my interview with my wife on 18th may(monday). The officer interviewd me first and then my wife. After the interview, he made copies of all the evidence i had brought that day. I did see my previous evidence file with him. All he said was "You're all done" and slammed the pin-protected door. I would like to know whether i am approved or not for 10 yr GC. what is the usual procedures after the interview is done, are fingerprints and photos are taken same day? or should i expect some notification mails soon? How do i find out if i am approved or not? thanks

what is your timeline? didn't you have a biometric appointment before?

its for 10 yr GC. i've had biometric appointment before. i was married on March 2006. I ask cos i m not familiar with the formalities or procedures when the I-751 interview is done...

    jane2009,

i have my case registered online. do u think the case status will reflect whether i m approved or not?

    jasminelily,

we were waiting in the waiting room after the interview, he went to make copies of evidence. Then he returned and gave back our evidence and said "you're all done". it happened so fast that i didn't get to ask him whether i was approved or not.. but the interview went very well. I couldn't get in becos it was a pin protected door plus the camera and security guard with gun was present. we did wait for him for sometime, but no luck. i know its odd, i m myself confused. i dont think it has happened to anyone else... i'll wait for some notification mails. Also the officer looked very young, he may be new/intern or forgotton to inform me about his decision//

  7. I received the same letter in October requesting for additional information like the one you indicated, financial information, lease, mortgage, bank, bills, etc. including affidavits from two people who know us stating how they know us, etc.

As for utility bills, you can actually have her name added to the account. And she can add your name to the utility bill as well. In the case of the cell phone bill, if she has her own phone under your plan, her name can be in statement corresponding to activity under her phone number (this works for Sprint and ATTWireless, as I recall).

As for car insurance, even though it may belong to her parents' the fact that you or her are driving probably means that you guys can be added as additional drivers on the coverage.

As for the joint bank account, it's time to get one even though you each have your own accounts. I have my own business so I have to have a separate account while my hubby has had his account for years and also shares savings accounts with his parents, BUT we opened a joint account and use it occasionally. This came in handy when it was time to submit additional information because they want to see that there is a joint account that gets some use. they don't even care about the balance in it. I submitted copies of statements ranging from 2006, 2007 and 2008 - one statement per year which showed that the account is active and even though the balance which was high in 2006 ended up in 2 digits by Dec 2008, it didn't matter.

Another thing you can do is get insurance, doesn't matter if its term or full life insurance. Term is usually the most inexpensive and you can research that online or your credit union may even offer it. having each other as the beneficiary on the insurance plan is a good form of evidence that you are a couple as well.

Don't send in pictures all over again - they didn't ask for it. Send in updated tax returns or the actual tax transcripts from the IRS which you can order over the phone for free and receive within 10 days. Send in the joint lease of your apartment, utility bills that include both your names (add the other to the account as stated above), copy of car insurance from parents with you and her included under additional insured (if possible), and affidavits.

You don't need to write a letter to them and even have parents sign it. have the parents make out the affidavits instead. I found three people who wrote affidavits which confirmed their knowledge of us as a couple. Two were my friends back when I was single (our friends now), and one from his mother. Make sure that they type in the affidavit verbiage at the bottom where the notary needs to sign and notarize which will make it easy for everyone concerned. You can find examples online.

Hope this helps! I received my notice for additional evidence sometime in october and sent in the evidence one day before the deadline via second day express mail on 12/8. On 12/12 they approved my Removal of conditions and today I received my green card :)

    Good luck!

    hi

today i got a mail from uscis requesting for more evidence. My evidence is very weak and that scares me. Me and my wife's permanent address is her parent's house but we both attend same university and have a rented apartment nearby since 2006. we do not have a single utility bill in both our names. for example.. cable/internet, phone bills are in my name.(but to same addresses). Whereas electricity bill is in hers name. even worse we dont have a joint bank account( we have separate individual accounts). The car is in her parent's name so is insurance. we are full time students and dont have any evidence from job showing beneficiaries. only our tax documents show jointly filed (last 2 years). i m not sure what more evidence we should send.. the only new additional evidence would be a joint rent lease of our apartment (which we did not send the fist time). i m worried and its extremely hard to convince them.

what more can i do? should i send the pictures, tax returns, others again? should i write a letter saying me and my wife live in her parents house and their automobiles and have it signed by her parents? would this help in anyway?

    please help. thank you

    sugbumama,

thanks for the advice. but i think its too late to be adding her into my account or opening joint bank accounts. She is under my T mobile cellphone plan but only my name appears in the monthly bills. But i will definitely send the tax returns, apartment lease showing both names, utility bills, trips to nyc and cali (we did not travel together, even the tickets were purchased in different accounts), sworn affidavits from in-laws and friends, recent university mails showing same address. Need to send them before Jan 27. fingers crossed. even if this is not enough we are ready for interviews. our marriage is legit and we are soulmates. lol

thanks to all for your help.

The lease would be very good - plus (as stated) affidavits from friends/family that know you two as a couple would also be valuable (examples of these are in the Example Forms section here on VJ). Photos are very secondary and won't really help.

For clarification - what exactly does the RFE say?

well the RFE is just asking the initial financial and residence requirements. under financial evidence= tax returns, mortgage/joint asset ownership, joint bank account statements, insurance (life, medical, car), loan documents,(car, home, business loans).. under residence evidence= rental lease, utility bills..

we do have student loans in each's name. does it qualify as evidence ? other than that we don't have any other loans yet.

i'll make sure i send affidavits and letter of explanation. thanks

  10. Hi,

The problem is, my dad has been caught of fake documents at the airport and put behind bars couple of years ago, my mom had to bail him out. He tells me that he got a letter from U.S Consulate Embassy in Nepal saying he can not visit U.S.A for 90 years? he tore the letter and threw it away. Despite this i wanna know, once I become Citizen can i bring (petition) my dad to live with me? In otherword, is my dad still eligible to live with me once I am U.S. Citizen? Or is there any other alternatives such as appeals to correct this? I am worried.

    Appreciate your help. thanks
