  1. Passed interview and took oath 09-24-08. It was a straight-fprward interview followed by a short oath ceremony. The whole process took about 5 hours.

  2. Just received a phone call from the USCIS asking for me, they will send both an e-mail and the N-445 by mail today for the oath ceremony held at the St. Paul office 3Sep2008 at 8:30 AM. Was told either the e-mail or mailed letter would be good, and only about 30 people will be attending so should go quick. Perhaps premature in posting this as that e-mail hasn't arrived yet, but so excited had to post it. The woman on the phone was extremely nice and accommodating, found that refreshing from the USCIS. Let you know when that e-mail comes in. Yes, I shared this news with my wife first.

Oath letter is in hand, nice clear acceptable e-mail copy, won't worry if the real one does not come in the US mail.

The end is finally in sight.

    Congrats Nick!!

  3. My 2 cents:

Disclose all traffic violations in N400, but make it clear there were no arrest, just citations.

Take certified court disposition reports to the interview although they are not required for non-DUI/DWI violations under $500

In short - be safe than sorry. Traffic violations are no big deal, but does'nt hurt to have the paperwork.

  4. Where does this "10 days" thing everyone talks about come from? The last three times we needed tax transcripts (I-751, N-400, and naturalization interview), the IRS faxed them directly to us the same day.

IRS Form 4506T itself mentioned up to 10 days for Tax Return Transcript, and up to 30 days for Tax Account Transcript.

Though the form mentions 30 days for Tax Account Transcript, I got mine within a week. I called the 800 # and ordered. If you send 4506T by mail, it takes longer. I have also heard that if you call IRS and ask them to fax the transcripts you can get it the same day. In my experience IRS is pretty quick with response time.

  5. I would suggest you mail the tax return transcripts with N-400 and take the account transctipts with you for the interview.

Both the transcripts are easy to get by calling the 800 #. They are free and arrive in a week.

Tax return transcipt show all the line items in the tax return, but does not state whether you owe any tax or not for the year. It does not show any payment made with of after submission of the return.

Account transcipt is concise, shows only summary items, but also shows the account balance. It also shows the penalties and interest paid (if any) after submission of the return. If it states an account balance of zero, it is a proof that you do not owe anything to IRS.

The return and account transcripts are good doucments to obtain and keep in file even outside the context of naturalization.

Does oweing back taxes or going bankrupt come into play when flling for USC?

Owing back taxes should not be an issues if one has a payment plan approved by IRS and there is adequate documentation as proof. I am not sure about bankruptcy - would require consultation with an immigration attorney. If both the situations exist, one should certainly consult an attorney.

  6. congratulations! :)

    thanks for posting your experience.

lame..you just sit there on your pc..no friends. no VISA no status..unemployed just typing away to peoples good news..congratulating them as if you are not jealous at all not that you envy them just that your so ugly if you went out to take a walk in the park dogs would bite you.

These kinds of comments are unwelcome here. Please stop the personal attacks.

An alcoholic father that beat her mother, fights and arguments, your guess is as good as mine as to why my step daughter is very argumentative and has a very short fuse. But that mouth of hers has gotten her into a lot of trouble. She is learning that the hard way, but slowly coming around that you can't expect people to treat you decent until you treat them decent yourself. Flava kind of reminds me of my daughter and needs some guidance, but she shouldn't have to get that off the net. I have never yelled at my step daughter nor cut her down, she tends to blame everyone else, just quietly point some things out to her and how to avoid some of the situations she gets herself into.

I am sorry about the post regarding interview. I was meant as sheer fun with absolutely no ill-feelings, though. I appreciate your humane approach and your keen interest in the forum.

  8. Yes, only a Judge has authrity to administer naturalization oath, and one needs to wait for the ceremony no matter how frustrating the wait may be. The entire process of immigration process limits one's ability to schedule business travel and vacations. There is always the fear of missing an appointment or a missed communication from USCIS. I could not plan a vacation this summer until this afternoon when I heaved a sigh of relief and quickly made plans for the next 2 months - I received my IL. Now I am worried as to when my oath will be scheduled, and if I'll make it to my home country for Christmas visit on a US passport.

Bottomline - immigration and naturalization are benefits, and we need to put up with the hassels and inefficiencies - real and perceived - along the road. I have learnt many lessons in patience in the last 10 years!

  9. Received IL today for interview on 09/24/08.

  10. It's been two weeks since our interview and wife was told she should hear about her oath in two weeks, nothing yet. But was curious where the oath ceremony was held and ran across this article.

    http://www.tcdailyplanet.net/article/2007/...definitely.html

Very long article attempting to explain the delays of last December and without reasons, why oath ceremonies were delayed with over a thousand people set aside. Also about name checks and other nationwide delays where those applications are set aside and may take years to process.

We live in Wisconsin, and maybe this doesn't even apply to us, right on the hairy edge between Milwaukee and St. Paul and we were equally scheduled at both.

Doesn't appear to be very many members here in the St. Paul area, wish there was to learn about the oath ceremony in this area.

Good article - gives a comprehensive account of what's going on with naturalization process.. nothing we can do but wait and hope for the best..

  11. Hello all!

I will be applying for citizenship next year. I got a speeding ticket 2 years ago which I paid on time. Will this affect my application for naturalization? Part 10, Section D of form N-400 asks "have you committed a crime or offense for which you were not arrested?"

Do I need to declare my speeding ticket? Or should I just check the "no" box? Anyone had a similar experience?

    Thanks for you help.

Traffic violations don't count. You can check the "no" box.

Read the instruction for the I-400 and the entire M-476 manual you can download off the web, will answer many questions, but you will still have a lot more. Regarding traffic violations, they state explicitly which ones you have to report and which ones you don't.

Traffic violations need to be reported on N400. However you need not provide associated documents if the fine was less that $500 and it was non-DUI/DWI. Please read instruction for the I-400 and the entire M-476 manual carefully and follow the instructions.

  12. Appt happened around 11:15, my scheuled time was 10:30. Ins officer said they had some technical difficulties, and sorry for the delay. she asked for my GC and asked me civic questions, what are the branches, flag color, capitol, how many senators in each state, and independecne day and she asked me if we filed taxes together and looked at some original docs. and that is. 20 minutes, i was all done.

Congrats! Did you take oath the same day?

  13. does uscis accepts money order or are checks preffered?

    Either one is acceptable.

Ha, we always send a personal check from our joint checking account, should be even more proof, right? They electronically withdraw the funds from our account and seem to cash that check in lightning speed. Make sure you have ample funds in your account, swear they cash that check even before we mail it. Wish the rest of it would go that quick.

LOL, I love your sense of humor!

  14. When I got interview notice, status came off the web. The status the whole times was "pending" anyway so I did not find it or calling the customer service useful.

I had my interview today in Baltimore.

Arrived at 8:30 for 8:40 appointment.

They were running behind so I was seen at 9:15 and was done by 9:30AM

Really nice and cordial officer. I wanted to change my name because I got married so I wanted to keep my maiden name as my middle name as I had indicated while applying for N400 but I decided against that when she said it would be another month or so. So I just opted to take my hubby's name and leave it at that.

She went through the application really fast and suddenly she asked me when the constitution was written and that's when I realized that we were at the test part. I wrote a line and read a line and then she checked off her approval and stamped here and there and said she will recommend me for the noon oath ceremony today!

Oath ceremony was running late because they were trying to squeeze in a couple more people who had just completed their interviews. We were 50 people. Once it got rolling it was quick... we handed in our green cards and the oath notice, they played anthem while we stood, we pledged oath allegiance and the oath to country, they played video of president welcoming new citizens and they handed out each naturalization certificate and a flag. And then we were free to leave

The whole thing took 3 months!!!

    That was real quick! Congrats!!

  15. saby: good luck. Stay calm and relaxed. Most of the N400 interview experiences in Newark NJ DO have been good - from what I have read in the forums. You were just unfortunate to have a bad experience and IO in your AOS interview - you know it takes all sorts to make the world. So be relaxed, and good luck again.
