  1. I received my Oath ceremony letter today. I am to report to the US District Court in Richmond VA on April 17th. It took about 9 months from start to finish.

You meant May 17th? If it's April 17th, then you missed the oath ceremony. Please double check the letter. Wish you luck! Congrats for the approval btw!

Don't know where my head is. Sorry, it's June 17th. DOH!!

    LOL

Congratulations!!! Was your local office Fairfax or Norfolk?

    Norfolk.

Congrats!!:dance: With 9 mths waiting I bet you are SO ready :star:

    More than ready.

  3. Welcome to the USA, your already served this country, but surprised the military didn't throw in USC as part of the deal. Willing to do that for my daughter for 18 months in Iraq, hmmm, let us think that over.

You already took a very strong oath to defend the constitution of these United States, USC almost seems redundant, I hope they treat you well, and with respect, glad to hear you had a reasonable IO, but don't they have access to your military records?

Thank you. I find it funny that they don't have access to the records as well. They wanted me to file an N-426 as well but as I had my DD-214 they didn't need it. I think that as I joined the military back in 1982 there wasn't a whole lot going on with the military so recruitment was not a top priority as they had there pick of who they wanted. Not so these days with the Iraq & Afghan wars

  4. I had my interview today and it literally took 15 min. I went to the Norfolk office for an 8 o'clock appt. I arrived 15 mins early and was called back at 8:10. The IO was very nice and the interview went great. When we were done I looked at the clock and it said 8:25 so it went really quick. The questions I was asked were

Who is the VP? Joe Biden

What is the highest court in the land? The Supreme Court

What people were brought to the US and sold as slaves? Africans

    Who creates laws? Congress

Why did the colonists fight the British? Higher taxes

How many amendments are there to the constitution? 27

She said that I have passed everything but they have to check my military records so that will take an additional 2 - 4 weeks.

All in all I had a great interview and can't wait the the oath ceremeny. I want to thank everyone here who helped answere any questions I posted and I found a lot of good info here.

What military records? That's a new one for me.

I served in the Army & Marine Corp back in the 80's. So I had to provide them with copies of my DD-214 & fill out G-325B Biographic info from the military.

  6. I have one last question before my interview (April 9th, Norfolk).

I am applying for citizenship on the 5 year rule but because I was in the military I have to provide forms N-426 & G-325B. Does anyone know how much delay these forms will add to the process after the interview??

    Thanks.

  7. I see that you're from Richmond. I live in Mechanicsville and had my ciometrics done at the office up in Alexandria, I wonder why we were sent to two different offices. Anyway, the bldg I went to had no Law Enforcement feeling at all, in fact I didn't see any police at all. The whole atmosphere was completely laid back.

I did finally get my interview letter, I am going to the Norfolk office April 9th.

    BrADmatt,

That is very odd, indeed. From the looks of it, my Biometrics appointment is in an office downtown Norfolk (and this rings some bells from back when I was going through my AOS to a permanent resident back in the 90's). The field office I went to pick up my green card, however, was in what looked to be a business park right outside of Norfolk. It is strange though that they sent you up to D.C. for your biometrics... maybe they were attempting to distribute work loads.

I live in Chesterfield, and sent my N-400 on 1/31. My Biometrics appointment is on Tuesday (3/3). How long did it take you to get the Interview letter?

    Cheers,

    Goran

My biometrics appt was Nov 6th. I got my appt letter yesterday. My interview is Apr 9th. So it took around 3 1/2 months.

  8. The biometrics office here was just that, biometrics. The other office was over in the civic center.

    Thanks, Jasman!

A follow-up question. When you were at your biometrics appointment, did you get the feeling you were in a "law enforcement" building, rather than a USCIS office? I.e., did police officers or IOs take your fingerprints?

    Cheers,

    Goran

  9. I have heard that people received a separate document checklist and interview letter. So maybe your interview letter will arrive on Monday or Tuesday. If not, I would call USCIS.

I received my interview letter and it also had the standard list of documents to bring (e.g. it asked for the Selective Service Registration, even though I'm female and was older than 26 when I became Permanent Resident). I did not receive a separate document checklist.

You'll get a seperate letter for the interview date. I recevied my case file review notice on Feb 20th and the interview notification letter today (Feb 28th).

  10. 3. Confused on this one. You were out from 1983 to 1985... but what exactly does that have to do with with the last five years? Take your transcripts for the last 5 years, you should be fine. Less papers work with 1722. Plus the transcripts are free.

I was just filling out the form 4506 (listed on the document checklist) and it states that I need to pay $57 per return. Do I have the wrong form.

Never Mind. form 4506 is for copies and cost $57 each. Form 4506-T is for transcripts and are free.

  12. 1. You'll get another letter. The service center goes through your file and determines if you need anything to bring to your interview.

    2. Take your passport. You never know if the IO might need to look at it

    4. You could also get a letter from the county clerks office stating that there is no record of you being in jail. That way your covered. Or you can just let your IO know about it and what you did.

***My IO never even asked for any of the documents listed on the paper they sent me.*** But that was just him so who knows.

    Good luck with your journey.

    Thanks for the reply.

I was confused about #3 as well. The letter states "If you have taken a trip outside the United States that lasted for 6 months or longer since becoming a Permanant Resident, bring an original IRS 1722 letter, listing tax information for the past five years..." Beats me.

  13. Last Friday I received my Interview checklist in the mail and I have a few questions.

    1. There is no interview date on it. Do I get the date in a seperate letter??

    2. It's not asking me to bring my British passport. Should I take it??

    3. Because I took a trip outside of the US for 14 months from Nov 1983 to Jan 1985 it is asking for an IRS letter 1722 listing tax returns for the last five years. According to form 4506 they want $57 per return. Couldn't I just take my copies of my tax returns?? And do I really need these as it happened while I was serving in the Army??

    4. I had a run in with the law 21 years ago. I was detained in the county jail for one weekend and was never charged with anything. However when I called the county records dept I was told they don't have any record of it. What should I tell the interviewer??

Thank you for taking the time to answer these.

  14. I received my notice for my fingerprint appointment. I am to report to the CIS office in Alexandria, VA at 9.00AM on 11/06/2008. I have an FBI office less than 6 miles from my house and was wondering if it can be done there or does it have to be done at the CIS office? I don't mind driving to Alexandria, but it's 1 1/2 hours away and driving into Northern VA/DC during morning rush hour is not going to be fun.

    Thanks in advance.

  15. I was wondering which way I should file the N-400??

I have lived in the US for 28 years with a I551 resident alien card, I have also served in the military (both Army and Marine Corps 1980's), and I have been married for 18 years to the same person.

Should I file under marriage or military service??

    Thanks in advance
