Hey guys!
Long time no see! Sorry for not having been around -- my husband and I arrived Saturday the 12th at JFK from Istanbul, Turkey on Delta airlines. We made it through the immigration lines, biometrics, and baggage claim within less than 20 minutes! We were in no way harassed or bothered and it was a very positive experience.
I have one question: My husband's visa is a CR-1. When we got up to the window in line he got a stamp in his passport next to the visa that says "Dept of Homeland Security-Us customs and border protection" with a big pink date stamp in the middle (date of entry - 12 Sept 2008). Then underneath it there is a blank with something written on the left that I can't make out because it's on the crease of the passport -- it looks like "lass until". Then the guy at the window wrote in CR1 in the blank and under it a letter and number combination and under THAT Sept 11th, 2010.
I would have assumed this is my husband's EAD until we went into the glass room for biometrics and after taking them they told my husband "You'll get your green card in the mail within 3-4 weeks".
So, in my mind either one of 2 things have happened here:
1. It's an EAD
or
2. It's just an entry stamp and he doesn't need an EAD because his green card is coming?
Im so confused. Anybody able to give some insight? Thanks in advance!

Hi everybody!
I am on F1 visa working with my OPT right now. I got married a month ago so now we're trying to fill out all the forms. On form I-130 question 21 where it asked the last address you lived together, is that the one we are living together right now or the address before this one? This address is the only one that has both of our names on the lease.Does that make a difference?I appreciate your help.
The current address certainly meets the definition of the "last" (or most recent) one
Thank you so much for your quick reply!
Hey there! When I filled out our I-130 I wrote our current address. Good luck xo!

Hey everybody!
Hope everyone is well. My husband and I have taken care of his visa. After receving the UPS package with his visa on Saturday and opening it to find that he was born in Iran instead of Turkey I called the consulate on Monday and explained the situation. The woman apologized profusely and gave us an emergency appointment time at 1:30 the same day. We went in and waited a long time, but the staff was very friendly with us (except for the Turkish women at the door who deal with non-immigrant visas -- they can be really rude!). They called us up to window 3, looked at the passport, laughed and apologized "60% of all applicants are from Iran, so when we go to fill out the visa information on the computer, the country blank is filled with Iran already to make it easier".
So yeah, they *did* say UPS would be paid for by them because it was the consulate's mistake, but the guy at the UPS counter couldn't figure out how to do it so we had to pay at home when it came, BUT THAT'S OK BECAUSE THEY FIXED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We were soooooooo worried we'd have to do another interview or pay money again or something, but everything was ok.
We got the visa Wednesday morning at our door and we're leaving on the 12th of September.
Thank you, thank you, thank you to everybody -- I wish you all the best!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think they would have forgotten, would they? I mean, if so, that's a REALLY big mistake. But yeah, it's always better to be safe than sorry!
Congrats againnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
When are you guys leaving???
Well, we're really curious about your interview so please let me know if the same thing happens to you or not! Please don't mention us to them though!
We're planning on leaving in early November. We're in Marmaris now staying with my husband's parents, so life could be worse! We want to spend some time with them before we leave and since it's a beach town, we get a little holiday in the meantime. When are you guys planning on leaving?
We're hopefully leaving in 2 weeks, assuming they fix the visa. SUPER EXCITED!!! Hope it's not too hot for you guys down in Marmaris!

Hey G,
Actually I didnt wait so long. We did DCF so I sent in all of our documents on the 24th of July, they received them the next day on the 25th. Then, I waited 10 business days (August the 8th made 10 business days), but got no response. I emailed them that day and got a response on the following business day (the 11th of August). Our appointment had been scheduled for August the 20th -- 7 business days later!
So in total when you look at it, it took 18 total days (including weekends) to get a response. Totally 27 days from sending in the documents, getting and going to the appointment date.
I've found that calling the embassy is a really big waste of time because they're so "understaffed", but email was effective. You can directly email the embassy through turkey.usembassy.gov with any questions. They always got back to us really quickly.
At any rate, if there's anything I can help you with let me know. I know I'm DCF and you're K1, but I've got a lot of friends back home that are doing K1 as well.

WE GOT APPROVED!
WE GOT APPROVED!
WE GOT APPROVED!!!!
Yesterday we arrived at the embassy in Ankara at 8:30 (our appt was for 9:30). We handed the guard our passports and they prepared them and let us in to wait in line. There were WAY more non-imm visas than immi visas waiting. We were inside waiting with in 15 minutes of getting there.
Time passed by really quickly. We were called up at 9:20 and paid the $400 fee and were told to sit down and wait to be called. About 45 minutes later they called us up again.
Oguz was really sweet -- and nervous! He said "good morning" and the woman was quite friendly. She asked me "are you his wife?" I said "yep, that's me". She then asked "how long have you been in Turkey?" and I said "4 years as of Monday." and she said "ok you can sit down. Ill call you if I need you".
Luckily enough there was an open chair right next to window number 6 where Oguz was. I heard everything. He couldnt do the finger print stuff and the woman at the window got a bit annoyed with him (his hands were probably sweaty from nerves). She asked him where he was from, where I was from, who was his sponsor, what my parents and his parents do, do we have any brothers or sisters, why did I come to Turkey, do I speak Turkish... then they asked him when I came to Turkey. Oguz gave the right date, but he had problems explaining our story in English. He didnt pick me up from the airport in Turkey -- his family did. We met a week later because he was working as a tourguide then and in the middle of a tour. He accidently said that I lived with his family for 6 months, not 6 weeks, but the interviewer spoke Turkish so he was able to correct himself. She was a bit rude and said that his English was confusing, but sometimes it is so you know
Also, Oguz accidently said the name of the county Im from, not the city on the mailing address, but the woman didnt care.
Thank God we had pictures of me and his family with a time stamp in the corner to prove what he'd said about the first 6 weeks without him!
We took telephone records, western union recepits from when I got money from my family (because I dont work here) to prove domicile, wedding photos, general photos, plane ticket stubs and itinerary copies from all the times I went home (again for domicile) -- Oguz showed 1 or 2 photos and that was it.
I almost started to cry because I heard the interview start to go downhill. They gave him back all the envelopes I sent in and I panicked -- ends up these were extra things they didnt need. Oguz got a little white card with our case number on it, we went to the ups counter in the back of the embassy, paid, and left. FINISHED!!!!!!!!!
I am soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo happy and anyone who has any questions is more than welcome to PM me -- I will help you in anyway that I can.
Thank YOU visa journey members for helping me out so much!!!!! Best of luck to all of you!!!!!!!!!

I don't know Turkey but my general tips would be:
- dress conservatively, but not too formal- think business casual.
- No gum!
- Bring a book or magazine, you may be waiting a while.
- Be sure you know the policy on cellphones/ bringing in water and food etc- some embassies you can leave them at the guard hut, some you cannot bring them at all. Might be best to leave them at home.
- Have all your paperwork ready, double check it, then file it in a large folder with dividers or some such, so you have easy access and don't need to scramble for whatever they ask you.
- Relax! It's not half as difficult as you think it is as long as you are prepared.
Thanks Penguin!
Cammie did you guys take copies of all of your documents with you?

yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy! Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Could it be that Ankara deals with all of the Irani applicants as well as Turkish ones? On the website I thought I saw something about all Irani applicants being required to go through AP, in which case, that could be why.

Hey everyone!
MynameisCat asked me a really good question yesterday -- are you ready for the interview? I THINK I'm ready for the interview at Ankara, but I'm not sure.
Does anybody have any advice about the interview? How should we dress, how much is too much? What are the chances of getting denied? What kind of pictures did you show them?
I've got....
-some telephone records
-rent contract in both of our names
-photos of me with his family, me and him from various years -- I dont have any pictures of him with my family, because he's never met them before. Is this going to be a problem? I made a scrapbook of our wedding stuff, but I cant find it
That's my weekend mission.
So yeah, does it look like we need anything else?
