  1. My wife and daughter went for their interview and they answered their questions, but we were told after the interview we needed to bring some additional documentation. This documentation was not on the letter we received, nor was it on the Department of State website checklist. Is this normal? It isn't uncommon - is what they asked for specifically listed below?

If your police certificate is still valid for another month, why would they request a new police certificate? If they asked for this perhaps the reason is as simple as they want a more recent certification.

If you are married, why would the embassy request the document stating you were eligible to marry? Unknown - is it possible one/both of you were previously married?

If your medical comes back with an issue, would they wait until the interview to inform you or would either the hospital or the embassy inform you in advance so that whatever action is necessary can be taken to prevent whatever the issue is from getting worse?Usually I believe they would tell you during the medical unless it was a result in lab work that was done later/off-site. It isn't a 'secret' medical

Yes this is what they requested. They also requested documentation that my medical insurance would take care of whatever this medical issue is which they have yet to tell us about. I'm active duty military so we go through tri-care, basically we have our own doctors, if it is something outside of what our doctors can perform, tri-care will pay for a civilian doctor who can take care of the problem. Tri-care will only add my dependents once they arrive here to the base I'm stationed at. Thanks for your assistance. I believe we were approved it's just they're requesting this info after the interview, if they would have requested it prior we could have gotten it and been able to receive our visas rather than being delayed.

  2. It doesn't hurt/cost to bring in extra evidence.

Better to be over-prepared then to be caught short handed.

I have a big file of evidence of our relationship that I am going to have with me...I was wondering about other papers that they would need.....like a Police certificate(they allready have one on file)...I heard that you are supposed to bring one to the interview...but they didn't ask for it or anything else but the original birth certificate...I have copies of everything we've sent so far to the NVC.Is that good enough?

We took our valid police certificate to the interview but they requested for us to apply for another one. If you take your big file with you lol, make sure you have it organized so that if you need to get something out of it, you won't be sitting there rambling through it, you can go right to it, meaning you can get out of there quicker which will lead to fewer questions :D good luck!

  3. Hi everybody!

I got that yellow anvelope with the letter from the embasy and the papers for the medical exam.

The letter said that I was scheduled for the interview and for the intervew I have to bring my birth certificate in original and proof of my relationship with my husband.

Besides what they asked me to bring to the interview, shoul I bring anything else?...like other papers...or photos....anything else besides birth certificate or evidence of our relationship?

    Thank you very much!

I'd try to get in contact with the embassy to verify what you'd need to bring. My wife just had her interview, she answered each question with no issues and they requested after the interview documents that weren't requested in the letter we received nor what was on the website (we had a valid police certificate but they are requesting we get another one, they're requesting the document that my wife was eligible to marry before we got married). We now have to wait at a minimum of 2weeks before we can get the new documents. Just a heads up.

  5. Me and my friend with her son will have our medical 3rd week of this month..

i have my interview date already, my friend's case is already completed but still waiting for her sons completion..

she(my friend)will use her NOA2 but my question is,

she didn't receive NOA2 for her son's case, when approved she already received the ds3032..

what can she bring to show at the medical for her son?

can she just use hte ds3032 she received?it has her son's case number..

    ur response is much appreciated..

    thanks

I'd call USCIS and NVC to verify. You can use your USCIS number at NVC as well.

  6. Just curious how much the medical exam costs in Bangkok for a 33 yr old female and 13 yr female? Are all the vaccinations needed or is there a minimum needed to get the visa and a few more needed later down the road? I checked the Dept of State website and it gives a general price but I need to know how much is actually needed because I'm seeing on their website like 2K Baht and I'm hearing other prices like 3K Baht (not including vaccinations). Thanks in advance!

  7. This is a serious problem for me then. I don't know if my income will be enough to get approved. Will they take notice to being out of the country for the past 6 months with her? Because I was making above the poverty level for the past 3 years. Even with being out of the country for 6 months I still made 16k last year. What should I do here?

I can't say this would work, but I'd send documentation showing how much I've made each yr for the past 3 yrs, include tax transcripts, your letter of employment should show you worked there for those previous 3 yrs(assuming you've been working there for the past 3 yrs). Include in your personal cover sheet/letter how you've spent 6 mos out of country and were unable to work. Make sure you include tax transcripts to prove you made more than enough to beat the poverty line and make 125%. If this comes up during the interview for your wife, make sure she can explain what happened as well. Good luck to you.

  8. I missed something in form ds-230 and I sent back missing document about 3 weeks ago so today I call NVC automated message and state: NVC Has received CHECKLIST Letter Response on 9 april 2009 and need 6 to 8 week to review what does that mean? why it's soooooo long?

I believe it's just a generic response that is sent out as well. I've been told some people have been approved within 5 days of NVC receiving their package. I'm not saying that yours will be approved within 5 days but just letting you know you can be approved any day now. If you haven't heard anything after 6-8 weeks then you should probably start worrying, but I'd call every once in a while just to stay up to date on where you are in the process.

  9. Hi,

I have my wife's birth certificate. It is from the Union Council and it is notarized.

Only thing I do not see in that certificate is her mothers name everything else looks ok.

Anybody thinks there may be a problem, because her mother name is not on the Birth certificate.

And do I need to send all these original forms to NVC. I am kind of afraid to send originals since I do not know if I get

    them back properly.

Everyone here is very helpful and thank you.

I don't know if not having her mother's name would affect it or not, maybe in her country their parents names aren't posted on the birth certificates.

You should receive your documents back after the interview, but if you don't feel comfortable, just send the copies along with the paperwork for notarization.

  10. Hi all - we just had our I-130 approved and are waiting for the file to transfer to the NVC. I'm the US citizen and am moving in a few weeks and want to make sure my contact information is updated in the right places. Can anyone tell me where I need to update my address since we don't have an NVC case number yet?

    Thanks all!

    kat

*** You can still use your USCIS case number and e-mail the NVC ahead of time. Then follow up with the hardcopy in the memo type. I did that for my wife, the benificiary, and got e mailed back from NVC 3 dyas later and an actual mail too. Is that a NOA 2 right, k... also starts gathering your documents because it will go fast from here on. Get the DS3230 and DS 230 ready to go because ur wife needs to signed those. Goodluck!

To piggy back off of what was said, you should also do a forwarding with the USPS, this will automatically forward your mail going to your old address to your new address while you are waiting on USCIS/NVC to receive and update your information. Good luck to you!

  11. NVC received my 129 and 130 March 30 and the 129 was sent to the embassy already but every time I call about the 130 they tell me that they have it but it's not on the system. Do you think they're going to hold off on the 130 since they already sent the 129 to the embassy?

Just give it a week or 2 then try calling back for the case number. They just have to enter the info into the system.

  12. just recieved email from nvc said i didn`t pay the IV fee bill and i did and printed sheet and just sent ds230 package does that happen to any one /

I've received emails from NVC saying we haven't paid the AOS, IV Fee, and my I-130 even though we did pay already, the lawyer told me it was probably an error on their part. I still received emails saying they've received my AOS package but waiting on our DS 230 package. So if you paid the fees and received those emails no worries, when you send in your packages make sure you include the receipts showing you paid.

  13. hi bebe grace! let your husband call the military helpline in USCIS and inquire about your case,

    http://www.uscis.gov/files/nativedocuments...ineBookmark.pdf

Or she can also take Joggie's advice and actually read this entire thread, along with the thread called 'expedite tips', that was also started by KipandSarahJayne (also in the IR-1/CR-1 Forum). All the info is already there, you just have to read it.

thank you everyone. my husband called the uscis and had been told to wait w/in 45 days what do u think it will be?

    approval?

I would definitely NOT wait for another month and a half!

As has already been written in this and the above mentioned thread... if you want things to go (a lot) faster, have your husband contact his Congressman/one of his Senators (ask for the aid in charge of help with immigration cases). They usually get feedback in a matter of days at the most. They can inquire after the expedite request you have submitted (provide then with a copy) or file a new one for you.

If your husband is currently deployed, he can fax/email them a copy/scan of the orders. If he is in between deployments, a letter of his CO helps.

The Senators/Congressmen can usually also be reached via email (check online for the contact info).

    Seriously, no reason to wait.

If using politicians, it would work a lot better if you go through your local congressman/woman. A letter from your CO, FW/CC, or GP/CC also holds a lot of weight in regards to an expedite. I didn't see any format to follow when we drafted up letters but you should make sure you include how the this affects the mission. I still have my letters if you need a format to follow. Good luck to you.

I think it really depends on the person in charge of immigration that you stumble onto. Some are great, some are not. In our case, the Congressman's office was of no help whatsoever. My husband contacted his Senator's office and they were fantastic. But I know other couples that have successfully asked their Congressman for help, like you. However, there is no harm in contacting both, if the first office is not willing/able to help.

Yeah, you just have to be lucky. I know I contacted like close to 10 different Senators, out of the 10 only 3 responded and out of the 3 that responded only 2 of them contacted USCIS. After speaking to an Immigrations attorney, he told me not to go through the Senators, they only ask once and when told no thats it-they move on to something else, but if you go through your local Congressperson, they'd put more effort into your case because there's fewer people they support. (Senators handle entire states where as local Congress people work for the people in the local district). This is what I was told. Once we submitted a letter from my SQ/CC and my GP/CC, we were approved in less than a week (I emailed my lawyer the letters on a Friday, by that next Friday (a week later), the USCIS website showed their petitions being approved.

  15. I sure hope we get our originals plus the photographs. I suppose it differs from one embassy to another then?

On a related note, is it OK to blot out some parts of chats and emails? What if it's very private?

    LMAO!!!

I'd probably do that and as a side note the word "Private" with an arrow drawn towards the marked out words or just don't use that specific email. If you don't mark it out, maybe the interviewer or whoever's handling your case might enjoy your romance novel and just grant you your approval. Actually I'd probably leave it just to see what their facial expressions would be lol!

  16. This is just real quick. We submitted our DS-230 on March 15 and today my husband called the NVC for an update and they said we got an RFE for Question No. 20 on DS-230 which is asking the list of my residence since I was 16. I was born Jan. 1983 and been living in one place since I was a baby. But since they are asking me of my residence SINCE i was 16 so I wrote on the First line From/To : 01/1999 (didnt write anything for To) I filled this form online so I cannot use letters on the date fields so I place the word "Present" instead on the Address field of the form. Then i typed on the 2nd line "Nothing follows"

We are wondering what was my mistake there. Can anyone help me please? Thank you.

Me personally, I would have put the year I was born and wrote "Present", the remaining lines I would have put "N/A"

  17. I have a question; if any could help me, when sending the I-864 AOS Package to NVC, do I need to send copies of my w-2s for the past 3 yrs with a copy of my Federal income tax return. Or can I send the Package without a w-2

If you're sending Transcripts, you shouldn't need W-2's but if you're sending copies of your tax returns, I'm pretty sure you'll need to submit a copy of your W-2 as well.

  18. Back in Step 0, your spouse should have download, fill out, and sign the downloadable version of the DS-230. Depending on the country, your spouse may only need to fill out and sign part I because he or she will be sent part II by the embassy when the interview appointment is given. (This is called "Standard Processing" by NVC.) However, NVC requires that applicants from certain countries (called "Appointment Posts" or "Appointment Processing" by NVC) send in part II (filled out but unsigned), as well as original copy or certified copy of birth, marriage, divorce, police certificates, and various other records -- plus translations of everything. (This is so irrespective of whether you sent such documents in with your I-130 petition.)

You should find out as early as possible (e.g., at least by the time your NOA2 is approved) whether your spouse will have to obtain these extra documents and have her or him do so in order to have them in hand by the time you need to send in the DS-230.

i am confused about this from james shortcuts. what are all the documents needed for ds 230 in mumbai india? anyone who went through there please respond. thanks.

We are not going through Mumbai but I'll try to pass on hopefully some info to help you, I know I post stuff on here and I'm lucky to get one response. You should try the LingChe NVC Short Cut:

    http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/...he_NVC_ShortCut

Or just google "LingChe NVC Short Cut"

I do remember seeing somewhere on the NVC page where you click around to get to the U.S. Embassy in (whatever specific country)'s page, there you'll see specific stuff for that Embassy, but I'm sure it's the same for most places.

We haven't submitted the DS 230 package yet due to some issues (passport photos and police certificate), but we did fill out the form, we left the signature block blank on Part II but we filled the form out the rest of Part II. If you ever have an issue with something-filled out Part II or left it blank- just write on your personal cover sheet an explanation of why you filled in or left blank Part II. I'm not an expert but I'm sure they're not going to deny you the visa for filling in or not filling in Part II, just don't sign Part II until they tell you lol, but just write an explanation of what or why you did something. Hope this helps even if it's just a little. Good Luck!

  19. Just curious if I already have translated documents, they are stamped "Certified Correct Translation" and signed by the person who translated the documents, will this be good enough to get through to NVC? If not, what else is it I need to do to make sure they are good to go? It's the same translated documents I used at VSC. Just curious, thanks in advance!

    jurod16

you need to notarized them too..

Do I need to get it notarized even if I have the originals?
