    This is exactly why I was wondering about the reentry permit since it might look like I've abonndoned my gc. Since we'll be gone for quite a while we'll be giving up the house and putting everything in storage (no lease, no utility bills, etc). Also I'm a stay at home mom at the moment with a baby so I can't show that I "kept" employment either.

    Hi everybody,

    I plan on visiting my family in my home country for several months while my husband is deployed.

    It'll be over six months but less than a year so I assume I'm better off getting the reentry permit.

    Unfortunately my last name has changed a few months ago and doesn't match my Greencard anymore.

    Is this going to be a problem or am I fine carrying the marriage certificate with me when I travel?

    What name do I have to use to file I-131?

    @Givn2fly: Willkommen in der Runde. Fuer das AOS hab ich mein Fuehrungszeugnis damals nicht gebraucht. Zumindest hat nie jemand danach gefragt. Ich habe heute noch mein deutsches Bankkonto. Solange die keine Fragen stellen, werde ich das auch einfach weiterfuehren. :whistle:

    Ich nehme an, die deutsche Firma hat ihren Sitz in Dtl.?

    @Arinlars: Das mit dem Impfpass ist natuerlich unguenstig. Hat der Hausarzt keine Unterlagen um einen Neuen auszustellen?

    I'm not sure about this and hope somebody has the answer to this dilemma.

    To make it short:

    I got married here in the U.S. and the marriage got registered in Germany afterwards.

    My husband and I got a divorce here in the U.S. however I have missed to get it registered in Germany.

    Now my boyfriend wants to marry me before he gets deployed.

    Can I go ahead and get married and get everything registered later since I'm legally divorced?

    Both chapels are lovely! :thumbs:

    I was talking about The Little Church of the West earlier in my post. I think that one is a little pricy at the moment.

    The Little White Chapel seems to fit into the budget.

    I wonder if the minister fee is included? I couldn't find anything about it on the website so I assume it's not?

    I like the chapel indoors. The drive through is nothing for me though. :lol:

    @Danda: Ich kenne noch 2 gute Moeglichkeiten sich guenstig ueber eine deutsche KV abzusichern gerade wenn man zu anfang keine Schutz durch den Arbeitgeber hat.

    Die Axa bietet Verischerungsschutz fuer "Weltenbummler" an bis zu 18 Monate. Das hab ich gehabt und die haben auch immer alles anstandslos bezahlt. Edit: Ich glaube das war damals ca. 30 Euro/Monat

    Dann kenn ich noch die "Care Concept AG" fuer Auswanderer die einen fuer 53 Euro/Monat bis zu 5 Jahre versichern.

    Zum Telefonieren benutze ich nur Skype und zum chatten hab ich yahoo auf dem Handy und kann somit kostenlos Nachrichten an z.B. mein Mom schreiben.

    Ueber Skype kann man unlimited calling fuer landlines bekommen ( $8.99 im Monat)

    Es gibt aber auch Plaene fuer cellphones usw. :)

    Bisher hab ich jede FS-Pruefung immer beim ersten mal bestanden, in Dtl. sowie hier in IL. Aber ich hab mir Sorgen gemacht, ob die meinen FS in CA einbehalten sollte ich durch die Theorie fallen [es gibt ja immer ein erstes Mal :innocent: ] und ich brauch ja das Auto um auf Arbeit zu kommen. Aber wenn man die Pruefung sogar 3 mal wiederholen kann, am gleichen Tag ... :lol:

    So langsam kommt der Umzugsstress auf. Unsere Moebel fahren schon Mitte Juli nach L.A. und wir kommen dann nach ..sobald die Versetzung durch ist. :)

    Kann mir jemand eigentlich einen guenstigen cellphone- Anbieter empfehlen fuer [extrem] wenig Telefonierer? Irgendwie kann ich nichts unter $30 finden.

    Ich hatte, als ich hier hergezogen bin eine deutsche Auslandsversicherung. Als ich zum Zahnarzt bin, hab ich alles aus eigener Tasche im vorraus bezahlt. Die Rechnung hab ich dann an meine Versicherung in Dtl. geschickt gehabt und innerhalb von einer Woche hatte ich die kompletten 1.000 zurueck auf meinem dt. Konto.

    Wenn sie weis bei welcher Versicherung sie ist, sollte sie vllt. mal dort anrufen. :)

    Also ich bin damals zum Standesamt in Dtl. vor Ort gegangen. Die meinten ich muesste alles nach Berlin zum Standesamt 1 schicken. Wir haben uns eine Kopie der Eheurkunde vom Gericht hier in den USA geben lassen, welches dann nach Springfield, IL fuer die Apostille geschickt wurde. Als wir das endlich hatten, mussten wir alle nur noch das Formular mit der "Namensaenderung" unterchreiben, was wir vom Standesamt in Gotha, Dtl. bekommen hatten. Die meinten, dass damit die Ehe automatisch anerkannt ist. Eine dt. Urkunde koennten wir ausstellen lassen, wuerde aber auch dementsprechend zusaetzlich kosten. Wenn ich mich nicht irre lag der Beitrag zw. 100-200 Euro, je nachdem ob man ein Stammbuch wollte oder nicht. Es ist aber nicht notwenidg. Ca. 4 Wochen spaeter bekam ich dann die Bestaetigung der Namensaenderung zugeschickt. ... Ich hoffe ich hab nichts vergessen zu erwaehnen. :)

    @ Chnst: Danke. Es sieht fast so aus als ob ich nicht mal alleine umziehen muss. Mein Arbeitskollege hat mir erzaehlt, dass er auch vor hat nach L.A. zu ziehen. Jetzt werden wir gemeinsam runter ziehen als roomies. :D

    Das spart ein Haufen Geld, man ist nicht so einsam und kann gemeinsam die Gegend unsicher machen ... ehm..erkunden. Und eigentlich ist er auch ganz suess. :whistle:

    @Nina: Das tut mir so leid.

    Mir kommt das ganze recht bekannt vor. Ich wuensche dir ganz viel Kraft! Ich glaube kaum, dass man es seinem Partner "schonend" beibringen kann, dass man eine Paartherapie benoetigt, wenn er es selbst nicht sieht... aber vllt. versteht er dann endlich den Ernst der Lage. :unsure:
