  1. My parents live in the Mexico/US border which has been closed since March. However the closure only applies to land crossing and not air. So, we are looking into having them fly here (Atlanta) for Christmas.
Do they need to get any other type of visa or anything or is their current B1/B2 visa (border crossing) card. When do they get the I-94? When they arrive to Atlanta?

They normally travel to us by land a few times a year and never had issues getting an I-94. But have not been able to since the borders shut down.

  2. Adding my info...

  3. Yesterday I got my GC on the mail. I'm so happy!!! We already had plans to go to Mexico for Christmas but it was all depending on whether i got the GC or not before that. Thankfully my family has been able to come visit like 4 times since we got married 1.5 years ago... but is going to be so nice going home and seeing all my very dear extended family and friends!!!

For all those who are still waiting.. it will get here.. just keep praying!!!

It took a very long time for us to finish the process, we started october 08!!!

Thanks to everyone who's been here to help with all my doubts...

I'm so not looking forward to have to start the process in 1.7 more years.. but it would be alright!!! i guess this is not really the END :( .. is there ever an end? citizenship maybe??

  4. I wasn't sure where to post this, but...

Is anyone familiar with the "visa laser" it's a border crossing card/Visitors visa that Mexican Citizens can get to cross the border, it's valid for 10 years.

Anyway, i have a question about this.. My friend had a visa laser, then he got a student visa. His visa laser wasn't taken away. He's still in school but only has two more years left, his visa laser is expiring next year, should he reapply for it? is it legal to have two visas? I've heard it isnt, but again, when he got his student visa, the officer didn't even mention anything about it.

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Thanks!

  5. I got a letter saying my AOS application was approved and that i will receive my card in 30-90 days. It said that if i had an emergency and needed to go out of the country i could schedule info pass and get my passport stamped as a US resident (i think).

My portfolio online says card production ordered. When i applied for EAD i got my card in less than a week after the satus changed to card production ordered.

Does anybody know how long does it take to get the green card on the mail, i assume is longer than EAD??

Also.. we're planing on visiting my parents for christmas in Mexico. We plan to drive there since is a border city... if i dont get the card, should i schedule an infopass and try to get the stamp? Would there be a problem since is not an "emergency" it's just that we want to spend christmas with my family?

    Any advice?

    Thanks!

  6. I would like to know what kinda questions they will ask in atlanta,, will it be diffrent from the one we had in nigeria.. I was not in on that one but will be for this one any things that will help I will appreciate

We had our interview october 27th in Atlanta. The officer just went trough the I-485 form we filed and asked me the questions there just to verify my answers. He didnt really asked my husband (us citizen) much. I had brought pictures and proofs such as joint account statements, old lease agreements with both of our names, the deed for our house, car loan statements in both of our names, car insurance with both of our names, etc... he didnt asked for it but i told him i had that and if he needed to see that so he took a look at them: MAKE SURE YOU BRING COPIES OF EVERYTHING you want them to keep in file. we had to leave some of our originals (bank statements and old lease agreements) then the only think he asked to see was my husband's proof of citizenship, he had a birth certificate and passport so he made copies of both. and that was it! he said we should hear in 4-6 weeks, either that we were approved or that they need something else from us, but he said his recommendation was to approve us.

    hope that helps!

  7. "On Monday, dozens of people left messages on Reforma's Web site expressing outrage at the 5-year-old's death. Some called for Mexico to reinstate capital punishment.

"They should definitely give the death penalty to these people, who have no conscience," wrote a man who identified himself as Eric Aguilar of Mexico City. "Keeping them alive only guarantees a hidden danger for the rest of society."

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27521630/

Capital punishment is wrong but injecting a kid with acid isn't bad enough to warrant the death penalty? Mexico is so much more civilized than Gringoland.

Don't know where you're trying to go with the statement. The child is not going to return.

the child is not going to return, but the kidnappers will do it again..

  8. Lets make it even clearer! TAKE OVER MEXICO AS A NEW STATE OF THE USA!

Yeah, it would move Mississippi up several notches from its usual rankings.

It's so sad to hear that... there are millions of central americans every year trying to get to mexico to get on the US.. it is very sad what they are doing in Mexico, but then again corruption and drugs have taken over Mexico...

It also makes me upset to even think of all the illegal immigrants in the US who are here braking the law while WE have to go through all of this hard, long and costly process to do things legally and it is because of the illegals here in the US that it is harder for us to go trough this process.

  9. Thanks for the suggestions guys.

I am torn about the address change as well. I am scheduled for an infopass meeting with an IO at St. Albans (4 hr drive) Hope it is worth it. I am also planning to talk to a lawyer tomorrow after the meeting at St. Albans. By that point I should have figured whether or not my interview dates and location will change and whether or not I can go home and for how long.

    I'll post my experience.

You immediately need to inform USCIS.. within two weeks of your move.

you are not supposed to travel outside the country unless you have advanced parole and even then i would risk it! after you apply for aos it doesnt matter if your F1 is still valid or expired as long as when you apply is still valid

    I'm a former f1 holder!

  10. the answers I have received here are kind of all over the place and contradict lots of other posts ive read on this forum

If anyone whom has been attending college on an F1 visa and gotten married to a US citizen could reply with their experience it would really help

    thanks

I came to the US with an F1.. after a year i started dating my husband, we got married my junior year of college. My f1 was still good for another year. We got married. We filed I-130, I-1485, I-131 and I-765. I was still in school, when you apply for adjustment of status you automatically are not an f1 status at your school so you have to report that to the international office. You are legal though, because you are waiting to adjust status. DO NOT LEAVE THE COUNTRY!! even though you still have the student visa to come back... and I would suggest only using advanced parole if is an emergency. It's been over a year since i got married and havent been home... I just had my aos interview last week and i'm just waiting on that to go home.

Seems to me, or at least in my case.. going from an F1 makes the process easier, bc your spouse is already here so no need for fiance visa... and also i guess the US already has records of you and knows who you are. You should be fine.... and NO need of lawyers, they're so expensive.. unless of course there's something in your records that will complicate your process...

  11. Hi, I'm a USA Citizen and I want to marry my girlfriend, who is an international student on a F1 visa. She currently attending college and have an I-20. Her Visa have expired in August but she still have an I-20 so she is still ok to stay in the USA. I read the Guide on this website and it seem I need to fill form I-130, G-325a, I-864, I-485, and I-765. Is these forms the correct one to fill after we get married?

i just went trough that process last year. those are the forms you need to fill out. I'm not sure about her student visa being expired though, you might want to check into that!

  12. When i first apply for I-130, october 2007 it took a couple months to clear. Then i applied for I-485 in april 2008 and it took a couple days. The first time we applied for something though we didnt do a mail confirmation or anything, so the whole time we were hoping they didnt get our papers lost or something like that.. the second time we applied for something we made sure to get ALL KINDS of USPS delivery confirmations, signatures and what not... this time we got our NOA-1 even before we got the delivery confirmation....

so you never know.. it just depends on how far in the stack you are!

  13. I'm very thankful for having a really good job, just graduated college and I feel so blessed to have a job that looks like I'm way farther in my career. My husband just got a new job also with a well known company and is doing great.

We both move to Atlanta with NO JOBS and lived in a tiny 1 br apt for a couple months. Thankfully we found jobs right away. BUT we were willing to work at a starbucks if we had to. We were not thinking about sitting around trying to find the perfect job making tons of money. And i think there are some people out there saying they cant find a job.. but believe me there are jobs out there it might just not be what you are looking for at the moment.

In my opinion if you need money and are in the "search for a job" i think you just take whatever you find and keep looking WHILE you are working the not so well paying job.

but again, that's just what i think.

  14.
We have our Interview in Atlanta Nov 17, 2008 fro green card.. I here it has changed it now takes 5 months after interview to get green card? Use to be 30 days,, I wonder if this is true and why?? So long.. Anyway Im happy this part is almost over.. We have had some hard times and things happen out of our control.. We had accident two weeks ago.. Totaled our car. and we are alive Thank God it could of been very bad,, But God was watching over us.. :innocent:

Sorry about the accident and troubles!

    Good luck on the interview...

We had our interview in Atlanta october 27.. it was very fast and we didnt have to wait long at all. The officer said we should hear in the next 4-6 weeks.. he didnt say anything about 5 months. Who told you it takes 5 months?

  15. I had my AOS interview october 27th. Everything went ok, the officer didnt really ask us many questions, he just went over the for i had filled out and ask me everything just making sure i had filled out ok.. he didnt ask any personal questions to me or husband about how we met or anything like that. I had prepared a folder with joint bank accounts, lease agreements and deed for our house. Also had photo album with pictures of both of us with each others families and friends. I asked him if he wanted to see all of this and he said sure... so he kinda looked trough them. After that he just said that he knows that my I-130 was approved but he didnt have a copy of the file and didnt know why did they approved it if we hadnt sent any proof that we were living together (i forgot to send this in) . He said he didnt have much to ask since my i-130 was already approved and he didnt have a hard copy. he said we were done and that he was going to make a recommendation for my AOS to be approved.. and that we should hear in the next 4-6 weeks.

he didnt specificly said it was approved, so we ask him and he said "I'm making a recomendation to approve you, but is not up to me"

what does this mean? I thought he was supposed to approve me, deny me or say we needed to bring more info....

So has anyone had this happen before? What does it mean?

    Thanks everyone!

  16. I got a notice for initial AOS interview. I was reading other posts about this and some mentioned that officer "took their G325" and that they were asked to get their vaccines and physical documentation from the civil surgeon. I send with my package the G325 forms for me and my husband, and also the sealed package from my civil surgeon when I applied for AOS (in april 2008). Do i need to have this done again? or will the officer have all the documents i sent in?

ANy help with this would be greatly appreciate it!!! I cant wait to get my GC and be able to go see my family!!!

    Thanks!
