  1. Lots of hugs and heartfelt wishes. I don't think anyone can realise how it is to move countries. My own move is imminent and I am anxious . But, back to you.

Your husband doesn't realise what a big leap of faith its been for you to move countries. Keep the communication going....sit him down and have a heartfelt talk. Remember, not only have you moved countries, got married...NOW you are pregnant. That's a lot of change in a short time.

My prayers go with you...no harsh words. :star: xx

  2. My heart goes out to you... I have my own anxieties about moving to the US - I'm due to leave in less than 3 months - and reading your post, and others, shows that it isn't easy upping sticks and moving to another country. BUT keep going. Keep seeking new connections and above ALL keep in touch on the website. Let us know how you're getting on.

ps: I'll be moving to San Fernando... :star:

  3. Hi,

I'm in a reverse position: my fiancee is in the US and I'm going to join him. So, back to the point. Well I had the embassy required medical and was told they could give me the vaccinations there or I could use my own GP or wait until I entered America. Now, some of the vaccinations are free here and others you have to pay for. I need 6, 3 of them can be combined so I'm going to check out how long they will take to administer as I'm due to leave in a few months.

  4. Courier man just CAME with my VISA package! Massive brown envelope with DO NOT OPEN on it. Hahahaha! Hehehehe! My goodness! What a polava! What a journey! But it's not over yet. Now it's time to plan 'THE MOVE'...Oh, my tummy feels kinda strange  I miss England already
  5. Hi folks!

A couple of hours ago I received a SMS from the embassy courier service. Yes, my visa package is on the way! Thought I'd start a thread to share 'relocation' experiences

27 May 2008 - Embassy interview (Approved pending notarisation of Support document)

20 June 2008 - Support document and passport sent to embassy

1 July 2008 - SMS message from courrier service, visa package ready for delivery on 2.7.08

  6. Hi there!

I took some passport photos - not correct according to the regulations and they were accepted, no questions asked.

My interview took place last month with a good result - APPROVED! However one of my documents was not notarised - 1-134 - so my US-based fiance sorted that out and now my passport and the supporting document is with the embassy. I'm now waiting with bated breath for the 'visa package' - the courier service, embassy appointed, will text me to arrange date of delivery. As for my embassy experience  , see below:

    1. Arrived at US Embassy at 8 am - interview was scheduled for 9.30 am but I thought I could queue up ahead of the crowd -WRONG! Queue was a '100 miles' long...hehehehe

    2. Waited in line for security checks - belts, mobile phones and any electronic equipment had to be declared and placed in a plastic bag....Listen, waking without my belt was a challenge - trousers kept attempting to fall down....

    3. Had to walk through some x-ray contraption and was asked to leave my mobile phone and fob behind.

    4. Went into the embassy and given a number and directed to a 'heaving' waiting room which had large screens showing ticket numbers. Told to wait until my number appeared, then go the desk indicated.

    5. After about an hour my number was called so I walked up to the designated desk and was asked for :

    . Police Certificate plus copy

    . Passport plus copy

    . 1-134 plus copy

. Documents we completed online, plus one copy of each

    . Birth certificate

    6. Clerk asked me to provide finger prints - asked to plock my thumbs, and index fingers, onto a small piece of equipment

    7. My documents were checked and I was directed to a clerk to pay the interview fee and told to return with the receipt. Then he told me to go back to the waiting room as would be called again shortly

    8. About another hour later, I was called to see the embassy offical. He asked me THREE questions:

    .How did you meet?

    .Which subjects do you teach?

.When did you last see your fiance?

ps: I noticed my file was marked, 'APPROVED'...hmmmm....seems they made a decision before seeing me...maybe...maybe not :innocent: ....Also consulate chappy was a very nice MAN....smiled a lot and was very relaxed

    7. Told me one of my documents needed to be notartised and to get that done and my passport sent back to the embassy using their official couriers. The same carrier method would be used to return my documents

    8. Told to enjoy my time in America!

    9. Hot footed it out of the embassy, not believing the actual interview took under 5mins! Heheheh

    10. Went back to the security point to collect my personal effects.

Note: I carried 3 files, stacked with additional information - evidence of our meeting, e-mails, phone bills, greeting cards, plane tickets, photographs etc, etc.....NOTHING was requested. Yes, I strained myself with 3 FOLDERS for NOTHING! Hehehehe....But still glad I brought them as it could be seen I had backup evidence even if they didn't ask for it.

There you go! That's my experience...

ps: Just be yourself....be prepared for possible questions....have your papers in an orderly fashion....don't be in a hurry as the wait is quite lengthly......and look embassy rep straight in the eyes....dress smart causal - no need for a suit!

pps: If you are approved, you are also expected to pay #14.40 on the day of interview for the visa processing and conveyance by courier. If you are approved pending further docs, you have to pay 26.50 - THey give you a blue form for the latter with instructions.

  7. Michelle,

This thread has helped me immensely. I'm awaiting my visa package from the US embassy at the moment. But now see, as a result of your questions, that I need to ensure I have the medical forms necessary.

When I had the medical in London I was given a sheet of paper with vaccinations I needed and another sheet. I'm now going to check what I have and what I need. Better to sort this out before leaving for the US.

By the way, congrats! Your K1 Journey is over and you're now with your honey. I haven't see mine fiance for 10months. Oh, well....With a bit of luck, and millions of forms later, we'll be getting married in October.

  8. I agree with everything said! I had my interview nearly a month ago and I too need to be supported by my fiance until I'm able to obtain employment.

    I submitted:

    1. I-134 - Affadavit of Support

    2. My fiance's pay stubs

    3. Letter from his employer confirming his employment

    4. Tax returns

We didn't get the 1-134 notarised so, although the visa was approved, it's been withheld until I send the notarised document along with my passport to the embassy. This I've done and now awaiting my visa package.

    Good luck!

  9. Laura,

My fiance is also in the US. When we decided to marry he booked an immigration lawyer to help us navigate through the 'petitioning' paperwork. We just didn't want any unnecessary delays. It only cost about $1500. If it's possible, I'd highly recommend it. It took over a year to get the result of the petition but the lawyer kept in touch along the way and was patient with our questions.

In Feb we received the approval notice and a packet from the US embassy came straight afterwards. There were some online forms I needed to complete, online, and forward to the embassy to start the process. Then over the coming months, I gathered the required information: Police Certificate (takes 40 days to obtain); notarised support document (I-134); letter confirming employment details (fiance); tax returns etc. Then I had to arrange the medical.

The medical took place in Knightsbridge and cost one hundred and seventy pounds - I believe the price has been increased. They took bloods, X-rays and there was a physical examination and 'interviewed' by a doctor who filled out a form. All these details are depatched to the embassy.

I had the interview last month and was approved pending notarisation of a document. That's now done and my passport and required document is with the embassy - I'm hoping to receive the visa and passport back within the next two weeks. Then we can start planning the wedding and my flight over to my new home in the US.

    Good luck!

ps: Be sure your fiance isn't having 'cold feet', cos I know mine couldn't wait to get hold of forms and engage an attorney to begin the process...This is a big step for you both...be certain about his feelings.
