  1. Hello. My wife received her VISA from Mumbai, India consulate. After checking out the Visa, there is Case Number on Visa on the top. The case number is correct, the only thing is it says '01' at the end of the case number. Is this the way it is suppose to be? Please Help.

Another thing is when my wife got the sealed package, on the top there is a cover letter and it has Occupation - which is incorrect. Does anyone know whose occupation is suppose to be? Please Help. Thanks

Well dont worry regarding the "01" thing my visa carry the same thing.....

However do get the Occoupation or any other such details corrected ASAP..... for e.g. in my case they had written an incorrect marital status. Instead of married the had mentioned single....i got it corrected the next day from the consulate.....

  2. Hi!

I am bir09's wife. Thank you very much to all Vj members for their timely advice and support which has helped us through this journey!

The following are the details of my visa interview experience at Mumbai Consulate in India

My visa Interview was on October 21st 2008 at 7:30 A.m.

6:45 A.M. Arrival at Mumbai Consulate

7:00 A.M. Lined up in the Immigrant visa applicant queue

7:15 A.M. Security Check ( They do not allow any kind of CDs, all documents need to be in see through bags which will be flipped and checked)

7:30 A.M. Done with finger printing

7:45 A.M. Called for first Interview by an Indian officer

    1ST Interview

The Indian officer was extremely easy going and talked very nicely. He said I am carrying too much documents. The case is pretty straight forward and we do not need anything except you medicals and passport. I gave him both the items. He did not collect the X-ray report citing it’s not required. He immediately returned my original civil documents (except the police certificates) and a copy of my husband's tax transcripts and w2 slips. He asked me what language I would like to have my interview in Hindi English or Gujarati. He answered himself and said I think you should have it in English. He then asked me to wait in the waiting area till my name is called again.

10:45: A.M. Called for Second Interview by an American lady (She was accompanied by an another Indian Officer)

    2nd Interview

The lady wished my good morning and the gentleman asked me if I would be comfortable in English. I replied yes. The lady was extremely polite and courteous to me. I was asked almost everything from VJ guide of interview question. However following are few questions that I remember:

    Who is the petitioner?

Where and How did you meet?

When and where did you marry ?

Do you have any photos of the ceremony? (I showed her the pictures)

Identify your parents in law in the pictures?

Did you go for a honeymoon?

Do you have honeymoon pictures? (I showed her the pictures)

Where does he work and what position does he hold since when?

    Did you work? Where?

How long he has been in the USA? How did he go to USA?

What college did he go to in USA

Where does he live in the USA? What is the time difference between your country and his?

How long he has been in the current address?

Were you or your husband married before this marriage?

    What's your husband's parents' name?

Do you plan to work in the U.S and what position?

    What is your educational qualification?

Who came from US for your wedding?

Does your husband have any siblings? If yes what are the names?

Congratulations your visa is approved. Your Passport will be couriered to you in a week’s time. I requested her to have my passport the same day. She said I may check up with VFS office after 5 p.m. in evening.

Visited VFS in evening at 5 p.m. and got the passport. Checked the visa stamp. Found out the error regarding the martial status. (they had printed it as single instead of married). Discussed and decided with my husband to make a visit to consulate the early next morning.

Visited the consulate office the next morning on October 22nd 2008 at 7 A.m. Had to request the CO Officer outside to allow me in for the correction. Got in at 7:15. Submitted the passport and the sealed packet. Had to wait till 10:30 a.m and was finally given the passport with new visa stamp and old one cancelled.

P.S TO ALL THOSE WHO ARE GOING FOR VISA INTERVIEW PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT ONCE APPROVED AND ONCE YOU HAVE YOUR PASSPORT IN HAND YOU CHECK UP EVERY SINGLE DETAIL MENTIONED IN THE VISA STAMP. YOUR NAME, DOB, ADDRESS, PASSPORT NUM, GENDER, MARITAL STAUTS, VISA CATERGORY, VISA DATE AND VALIDITY.

Now I just hope I have a smooth POE. It will be at Newark. Please share any info/experience. if anybody has regarding the Newark immigration.

  3. My wife went back to the embassy today. After waiting for sometime, they re-issued the visa and corrected THEIR mistake.

The height of stupidity on THEIR part: Issue a CR-1 visa, and assign "SINGLE" as marital status.

When petitioner/Beneficiary makes even a tiniest mistake, they are all over it!!!!! It is business as usual when they make careless mistakes..

    Urrggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh........

  4. Thanks you all for your support and well wishes. My wife received her visa this morning in Mumbai. We will post more details of the interview experience soon.

In her visa (stamp inside her passport), the marital status indicates that she is signle. Is this something we should be worried about, go back and get it corrected? The cover stapled to the yellow packet they gave her also indicates she is single.

For those who received the Visa, can you confirm what the marital status is on your visa stamp?

    Thanks,

    B.

  5. Bani,

A quick question. How can we take DS-230 for medical exam since its in the file that NVC sent to Bombay Embassy?

    Thanks

Congrats and best wishes for a successful interview.

Thanks a lot to everyone for their good wishes! and I wish all the best to all of us who have been scheduled for the interviews.

    Dhruv,

No we havent received the interview letter yet. Although I am not sure as well as to how soon we will be receiving it. I hope somebody else can help us with that.

Does anybody here have an idea how long it takes to get the letter?

    Bir and Dhruv,

Congrulations to both  on getting the interview date.... usually you both will get the interview letter after one week of NVC scheduling the dates.. Mine took exactly one week.. So check the snail mails daily.... :)

    Bani :star:

Thanks a lot Bani! That was helpful.....

Bdw I understand that your Husband did have his medical in Ahmedabad, it would be really nice if you can provide me some info on it since my wife will be getting her medical done in Ahmedabad too.... some basic queries that I have is: what type of medical test are done, how long does it take, what type of vaccniations are give (my wife has no record of prior vaccinations taken) and how soon do we get to know the results.

Your help will be greatly appreciated.

    Biren,

Yes, my husband's medical was done in Ahmedabad.. The Apollo hospital which is near Gandhinagar Sharkhej highway.. Your wife need to call first and get the appointment..usally they are free most of the time.. you might your requested date.. (They are open on sundays as well). Your wife need to take, appointment letter (original and copy), passport (original and copy) and two passport size pictures, and DS-230. Medical is almost done by 4 or 4:30 pm and reports are given the same day in the evening.. First, they do some basic test like blood report and others.. and they will ask you to come after lunch and will do some remaining test that time.. Usually after doing blood sample report.. based on that your wife will be given vaccins.. (my husband had to take 3 vaccins)... Costly nearly Rs 2200. Note: my husband had no records of prior vaccinations..

    Hope this helps..

    Bani :star:

    Dhruv,

A copy of DS-230 just to keep.. If they do ask for.. Usually they do not ask.. Bani :star:

Thanks Bani that was quite helpful. One more quick question, Are there any x-rays, sonography etc.,?

    as well?

  9. Call and talk to someone there. They can tell you.

They said the DS-230 was incomplete and I checked everything and I guess I didnt put N/A or didnt she didnt write her ROman Alphabet in Gujarati.

The PCC, I didnt get from from Police Station because they do not issue that.

    Hello Manishnyati,

My wife is from Baroda and she did get her PCC from Ahmedabad passport office and also from local Baroda police station.

Do you have to send the PCC from local police to NVC with DS-230. If yes...is Copy OK or original is required.

    Please let me know.

    Thanks.

If the passport is older than 6 months then u do need to get a PCC from th eloal police station.... PCCs need to be sent in Originals!
