  1. I want to thank EVERYONE here for so much helpful information!!!

I wanted to let you guys know that my wife's visa was APPROVED and thanks to God we are together in Florida.

Congratulations Kelvin Omar, it will take about 2 - 3 weeks to get the SS# and welcome letter in the mail. After the welcome letter it take about 30 days to receive the permanent resident card.

My wife received her resident card on the 25th of March.

  2. Well the time is ticking and my wife is flying out of Bogota tomorrow morning. Just a quick question, does she need to get the DAS Tax stamp on her passport. As a tourist we pay around $30 for this stamp, and I not really sure if she needs to get it since she is a Colombian citizen.

Thank you for all your help.

  3. Well, I don't know how to really pose this question but here it is:

My wife recently received her CR-1 Visa (Immigrant Visa), is it a requirement to purchase a round trip ticket. I know that if one is flying on a tourist visa, as a Colombian visiting the US, this requirement is upheld.

If I purchase just a one way ticket will she have any problems with say DAS or the airline staff. Please let me know, thanks.

JETBLUE recently started flying to Bogota and the one way fair is $140 to Orlando, FL.

  4. Hey everyone in Colombia Club, I finally got the script from my wife's CR-1 interview. You can view at at this link, select Colombia for the embassy.

    http://www.visajourney.com/reviews/index.php

It's in Spanish, but I can translate it and post it on the Forum if you like. Take care and good luck with all of your visa journeys.

Yes pleaseeeee my espanol is not that good. I did buy the program Rosetta Stone levels 1 and 2 and hope to be using that shortly :).

Okay CoffeisSweet, I have posted the interview script in English on the same link, just select Colombia on the drop down menu. I hope it helps, good luck.

  5. Congratulations jpcanon on the I129f approval.

Does any one know if the US Bogota Embassy keeps the original Pasado Judicial. My wife just received her Visa package from Domesa and the Pasado Judicial was missing.

    Thanks.

Omar, I don't know who keeps any of the documents the embassy doesn't give back but you won't ever see them again unless you file a form to get the back. It doesn't matter anyway because you won't need them anymore.

By the way, did you guys open the envelope the visa sent you via Domesa? If you did, you're going to have to go back to the embassy to have it sealed again because you're not supposed to open it. The only person authorized to open the envelope is the POE officer here in the US.

    Diana

Thanks Diana, the only one that was opened was the Domesa envelope, which inside came a Letter of Instructions regarding the other sealed envelope, SSN info, my wife's passport, and the Sealed envelope. Are you telling me the that Domesa envelope should have never been opened? Then how does one manage to get out the passport so one can travel to the US ?

  6. Just a quick update...Alexandra leaves Cali for Bogota on Saturday night (the long bus trip). She has quite a bit to do in Bogota before the 28th interview. I did work it out to go to the interview, I am flying into Bogota on the 27th and leaving the 29th. I feel much better now. I hope we have our things in order, but man you can worry yourself to death, over details, oh is this thing correct or that thing? I will have a much better idea on the 27th when I arrive and look at everything and help put it in order. Also, to review interview questions etc...

Good luck to you and Alexandra, this is the best choice for the K-1 visa category. Have as much evidence as possible and dress well.

My wife just had her visa approved yesturday and just returned to Cali after that dreaded long bus ride.

Her worst experience was getting the Medical X-rays, blood work and physical exam with DR. Roa, this process is very disorganized. Go really early in the morning since its a long wait.

She spent 4 hours at the X-rays and another 6+ hours at Dr. Roa. Make sure Alexandra takes, if any, previous/current serious Medical History and treatments to the physical.

  7. Hey guys, correct me if I'm wrong but as of last year the DAS gave people specific instructions not to open the Carta Migratoria. They used to hand it out in a sealed envelope and it was meant to be opened by the embassy only. If the document was opened it became invalid and the US embassy didn't accept it that way.

Is this no longer the case?

    Diana

Diana, I just talked to my wife yesterday concerning the Carte Migratoria. She told me that DAS gave her a sealed envelope, but she managed to see the paragraph through the almost transparent envelope. Maybe they have improved their service since many people have complained of errors in their Carta Migratoria.

On another note, everything is going well on my wife's CR-1, except for the fact the she had to wait over 4 hours to get her x-rays and blood work, and another 7 hours for her physical at Dr. Roa's. She told me that exam procedures are very disorganized and that more staff are needed to take on the numereous patients that attend.

Now, this is were the praying begins, her interview is scheduled for tomorrow, Jan 21st for the CR-1, wish us luck.

    Thanks again Colombia Club.

Good luck! Let us know how it goes at the embassy.....

    Good luck to you

Thank you all for the the good lucks. My wife had the interview this morning and was approved for the CR-1 Visa. She told me that its imperative to take as much evidence as possible, one picture will not suffice as many interviewees' were denied because of the lack of evidence.

  9. I say Bahia Honda State Park... I remember that fishing area is prone to shark sightings quite often... then we could go all Guajira and make Shark Pinchos...

HAL 9000 can dream of warmer climates...

I believe you probably won't regret the CR-1 route... but compare the paperwork side by side and the benefits to both...

Question.....I always heard that the K-1 visa is the fastest way to get your loved one to the US. I've seen this written on some attorneys sites...and I have direct experience with a nephew whose CR-1 took over two years (they eventually divorced)..... is this your experience?

Well we did K-1 because we were in no hurry to get things done on the visa side. It took us, from a Nov 2006 petition, to a Feb 2007 approval, to a June 2007 Interview at the Embassy, August 2007 POE by choice... not too bad. The slow part in that process was waiting on CSC to approve the petition.

Of course, if you are a US Citizen living for a minimum of 6 months in Colombia, you could try Direct Filing but I am not sure if Bogotá handles those anymore.

Hello Colombia Club, I originally was pursuing the K-3 route, but decided to change to CR-1 instead. I had to postpone my wife's K-3 interview which was scheduled end of October 2008, to pursue the CR-1 route instead. The CR-1 route and benefits far outweight the K-3 route. All the paperwork, Affadivit of Support and AOS fees, was approved late October 2008. My wife's new appointment is scheduled for the 21st of January 2009. Thanks to all of you for your support and help, specially Diana AKA: mononoke28.

  10. Anyone??

Hello snakenskull, are you the sole sponsor, if you are, you need to provide your income ( 3 years worths of US tax returns)

My understading on the form I-864EZ is that you are the only petitioner of the family member being sponsored on the form and the sponsored immigrant is the only person immigrating.

In my case I am sponsoring my wife and I am the only on sponsering her, so the for I-864EZ applies to me.

If I sponsor, say my wife and children, then I will need the I-864 form.

    I hope that helps.

  11. Well today When I called the NVC, They had scheduled my interview for September 23.:dance:

I will not be attending this one because My wife has her K3 interview on August 14th. And because the NVC has finally set my CR1 interview, they will be sending our file to the embassy. And it should make it there well before the K3 interview and it will be changed to the CR1 interview.

So anybody whose case is complete, you can start calling the NVC today to get your interview date.:dance:

Steve and Jessica, Felicitaciones on you Cr-1 visa approval.

I have a question and a small dilemma and I think I fall in the same shoes as yourself in the following situation.

I made a small mistake to pursue the visa k-3, since today I found out the my I-130 and I-129f was approved at the same time. The I-130 is just waiting for the AOS fee and the choice of agent form from my wife for further processing. Now the visa k-3 interview is already set up in Bogota, Colombia on the 24th of October. What wish to do, if possible, maybe move the appointment/cancel it by fax them a letter stating that I wish to pursue the Cr-1 visa instead.

Any advise will be greatly appreciate it.

    Omar

  12. Just wondering if anyone has ever cancel their appointment in Bogota to pursue the CR-1 visa instead.

My wife has her appointment for her K-3 visa on October 24th, 2008, and now I wish to pursue the CR-1 visa instead. Both 129f and I-130 where approved at the same time but the I-130 is waiting for an AOS fee ($70) and my wife's choice of agent form.

Any advice will be greatly appreciate it.

    Omar

  13. Welcome to the club, George!

For those of you waiting for an interview date, I have great news: sent my packet 3 documents on Friday, 8/22 via fax; delivered by Servientrega on 8/25. Called last Wednesday and my interview was already scheduled!! The big day: 9/25. I was a little worried because our case is not included in September's list. I say only a little worried, cause I remember Diana saying the list is worthless. In any case, I called the DOS to verify and yep, we are good for 9/25!!

So, my friends, now I have a couple of questions for you:

    - Do you know how long it is taking these days to get the "Certificado Migratorio del DAS"? (we will request it in Bogota).

    - Do you have any advice on a good place to stay? I have kept links of places from previous months / years, but has anyone found recently any nice, cozy, cheap, clean, close to the embassy (you know what I mean) place to stay?

Hello, just as a curiosity, why do you need the "Certificado Migratorio del DAS", is this the document in Colombia that states where you have lived in the past 10 years?

  14. Nice. That makes it easier for everybody, the beneficiary and the embassy.

    Thanks Mike!

    Diana

I just wanted to give everyone an update, the new way of sending in Packet-3, thru email actually works. I sent it in the forms on Monday evening and I just received this confirmation email today (Thursday) :

    Mr.

Thanks for your E-mail. the forms were received. you and your spouse will receive the appointment package aprox. 4 to 8 weeks.

    Sincerely,

    IV Bogota

So, really it was a 2-day turnaround time, If you consider, they didn’t look at my email until Tuesday morning.

    Not bad, it works!

The best of luck to all the recent approvals!

Mike, just a quick question about the emailing of Packet 3 forms. In the signature line was a typed signature acceptable, or did you have to sign with pen and e-fax to the consulate. Thanks.

  17. Hello I just returned from Colombia, and I am filing from I-130 and ran into the "Evidence of a Bonifide Marriage" section. Can someone explain what they submitted for this requirement. I am thinking of having a friend who has witness my relationship and marriage help me on this requirement. Will a note with a notary public signature be sufficient?? This will be done in California of course.

Any information will greatly be appreciate it. Thanks.

Since I was in the same situation as you were when I filed I sent a copy of the marriage certificate with a copy of the translation and two affidavits signed by my mother and siter. Here are the affidavits I used.

    Diana

Congratulations, I followed your Visa journey comments and it was granted very quickly. Thank you so much for sharing the affidavits, they will serve well to that requirement.
