  1. Hello Everyone,

My husband and I are about to send the AOS packet(I-864EZ) for my mother-in-law. Just wanted to know that my mother-in-law has e-mailed to NVC her DS 3032(choice of agent form)rather than mailing the physical copy, so is that OK or she has to post mail the form. I read that it takes couple days to a week for NVC to acknowledge the e-mail and to appoint the agent.

    Thank You,

  2. Hi...

Finally got the oath ceremony done on 06/01 for my husband. We had to contact our local congressman to get him in for the oath ceremony in our town...They missed us last time they had the oath ceremony and had to wait 2 months before they can add my husband in... Our town is very small and they only do oath ceremonys twice a year and sometimes if many applicants than three times that's it...So that's why it look this long...

Please update my timeline and finally we can be RED...

    Thank You,

  3. Its same things CO look at what are the chances of applicant returning back and not mis-using their visa.

you need to show all her ties to her home country, her fianancial, her invetments and all the reasons why she would return back upon completetion of her trip.

    Hi,

    Thank you for the input..

My mother-in-law has strong ties to her home country. She is a government school teacher for past 20+ years and she till has 5+years left till she gets retirement. She has very good financial, she has so many properties that she has invested in... Plus, being a school teacher she has to report when new school year starts otherwise she will be loosing her job which nobody of us wants.. so will not mis-use her visa..

My husband and I really want to know the real experiences of VJ Users parents/relatives that have gone through this process and how it is really inside the Consulate office??

    Thank you again,

  4. Hello Everyone,

My husband and I are applying for my mother-in-law's visitor visa this summer. We both are US Citizens. She is a government school teacher so the best option for her to visit us is in summer when schools are out. She still has 5+ years left for her retirement so her over staying here is not an option. We saw the application is online and the rest of the process is seems very easy. So our only questions are

    1. What do the consulate officer asks during the interview?

    2. What things the consulate officer sees more importantly when issuing the visa?

Please share your experiences of your parents/relatives when gone for visitor visas...What they thought that if they kept in mind before would have changed the results or anything they want to suggest to new applicants...

Thank You for your kind help..

  5. She applies for the via, not you.

The most important thing is that she will leave.

    Questions are usually limited.

    Thank you for your reply.

We are doing the online application on her behalf because she is not much familiar with computers.

  6. Since she is a gov employee, and have alot of strong ties with her home country, then it wouldnt be problem to get visitor visa. Just ask her to bring the employment letter, supporting doc that shows strong ties with her home country. That is it. It shouldn't be any problem in this case.

What they will ask? They will ask common questions, about where, who is there, etc etc. Hardly 4-5 questions, or extra few more. That is it!

    Thank you for your reply...

Being a government employee, it might be hard to get the employment letter but it is not impossible. As you know how our government responds when you request some kind of letter from them..

  9. This question is specifically for posters from India, especially from South India but answers are also welcome from anyone else who has had a similar issue.

While giving names of parents in Form G 325A,is it essential to expand initials or just give the initials as your parents use(d) them in their names?

For example, if your father's has always spelt his name as A.K. Raghavan and your mother as R.Lalitha (since in the south of India your mother will take your father's first name as the initials for her married name) do you have to provide expansion of initials like Ananthapur Krishna Raghavan and Raghavan Lalitha when filling Form 325-A?

The surname/first name system in the south of India is different than that of the US or even in the north of India and I have been reading in some posts that Immigration always requires full expansion of names and not initials.

    Any clarifications?

    Hi,

I would use full names rather than initials because it may be confusing later on... But make sure if you use full names, always use full names in the whole immigration process same as vice versa... I would also go by the passport names.. If passport has full names than go by that because you might have to submit copies of the passport..

    Hope this helps,

  10. It seems like we received similar requests!

The way I look at it is I cannot show them what I don't have, since my old passport has been returned to my government. Therefore, I believe that they will understand that. My feeling is they only ask this to verify travel dates - we are legal residents and passports are not required to live and obtain citizenship here.

    Thank you for the reply,

My husband's old passport is cancelled and than returned to him but we are not sure where the actual passport is... It has been cancelled since Jan 2008. He used his new passport for his visa. He has never been back to India so no issue of travel dates to verify..

By the way: Congratulations  for the interview scheduling...

  11. Question-

Before receiving the interview letter, we received a yellow letter requesting us to bring the old passport. Now the questions is "the old passport has been cancelled since new passport is issued and the old one is back in India or here, we don't know. The new passport contains the old passport number and besides that it says "cancelled and returned." So when asked for old passport by not having it with us will it create any problem ? What do we do in this case ??" Please provide any insight...

    Thank You

  12. You can also use "Speed Post" option available from Indian Post Office. They do provide tracking number which can be tracked from Indian side only but it tells you till the package is delivered in US. My brother uses this service all the time and we get the documents within 1 week time or less and also it is less expensive compared to the other private companies..You might want check this one out since in immigration process there will a lot of time where documents are send from India and it gets a lot more expensive after some time.

P.S. This is just from my own personal experience and my own opinion.

  13. HI Bani :)

How are you? We are doing great! We dragged our feet a bit otherwise we could have probably filed in May lol ... It's okay though - no practical issues with filing a couple months later ... except I may have to get Neetu a visa to travel to some places (that I could travel to without one) if we go anywhere soon and she's not a citizen yet :)

I don't know how long the process is - I'm guessing it'll be nearly winter before she has her actual US Passport (or even that long just to have the naturalization completed) ... Good thing is that in Newark the test/naturalization and oath is all at once on the same day - so that saves a little time :)

    Hi....

Good to hear that you guys are doing great.... :) Yes, it is good thing about Newark that both things are done in the same day... But here in Chicago...once you are done with the test, you have to wait in line to get your date for the oath ceremony which is usually a month or so after your test...Anyways...hoping this process is completed soon for all of us who has applied now and will apply later....

  14. I sent it priority mail with signature confirmation (so I sent it to the Lewisville, TX address for 'couriers' rather than the regular Dallas address)

    Hiiiii Rajee,

How are you??? Long time... How is Neetu ?? My husband has also applied for N-400... We are in June Filers....I hope this process is completed soon...Take care...Be in touch..
