  1. Maybe - but UK ID cards have been in the works for years, despite numerous pilot schemes and feasibility studies.

Here's the official story from the DEFRA web page.

    Personal carbon trading evaluation published

Findings from the Government study into personal carbon trading were published by Defra today.

The study indicates that personal carbon trading has potential to engage individuals in taking action to combat climate change, but is essentially ahead of its time and expected costs for implementation are high.

The Government remains interested in the concept of personal carbon trading and, although it will not be continuing its research programme at this stage, it will monitor the wealth of research focusing on this area and may introduce personal carbon trading if the value of carbon savings and cost implications change.

The review is part of the Government’s commitment to supporting individuals to reduce their carbon footprints and encouraging pro-environmental behaviour. It examines all aspects of personal carbon trading and evaluates it’s potential value for reducing individual CO2 emissions.

    Notes to editors

    1. Full copies of the reports can be found at: www.defra.gov.uk/environment/climatechange/uk/individual/carbontrading

    2. Personal carbon trading requires individuals to manage their own CO2 emissions. The concept suggests a national emissions cap would be set and carbon credits would be allocated across the population. Carbon credits would be used on purchases of, for example, electricity, gas or transport fuel. Those who need more credits than their allocated allowance would need to trade with those using less. Over time the overall emissions cap (and thus each individual allocation) could be reduced in line with national or international agreements.

Totally right, I think this Govt loves to throw out ideas (I guess they are not busy enough) LOL... If ID cards are still not rolled out then this has no chance.

  2. This is so so bad

And ppl who dont see it NOW, will see it eventually, and regret the day Obama got the nomination over Hillary.

Either way now, we get unexperience and another BS president, wont be any different than keeping bush in office another 4 years.

Im going to bed, this has been a very disappointing day.

BTW, Obama didnt win the nomination bc of experience, skills or knowledge, he won it bc he made and supporters made him look more like a hollywood star than a potentially worthy president, mainly bc he isnt a potientially worthy presidential canidate.

What makes Hilary a more worthy candidate?? The fact that her husband was president??

i dont remember saying the bolded

However, she has more experience, more common sense and more knowledge of what it takes to lead this country, fix our debt, and get us back on the right track to being the strongest nation again. Watching Obama in the White House will be closer to watching an episode of CRIBS, and McCain, he needs a retirment home.

Where did she get all this knowledge and experience from??? If it's not from the fact that she was married to Bill, then there is no more knowledge than Obama. I think it's a sad state of affairs when a woman rely on her relationship with a man to get somewhere. Don't get me wrong, I like Hilary but her campaign has been disappointing. Do u assume she has more common sense is that because she's older??

The cribs comment  I think that's just plain rediculous... Let's be serious now

  3. I'm actually a bit suprised that Hillary would want to be the VP. Its almost insures she will never be president.

Not necessarily...LBJ, George Bush senior, Al Gore (technically)...

Of course its not necassarily true, but this is the least likely road for Hillary to get to the white house.LBJ and Kennedy combined only equalled two terms. The last time the Democrats held the office for three consequetive terms was WWII. The Repubs only did it once since then. The odds are extremely unlikely. People just like change. Al Gore is proof. As happy as people were in the 90s the election shouldn't have been that close.

If on the otherhand she doesn't join Obama, the Dems have a lower chance of success, and if she wields her influence in just the right way, she can keep a lot of her half of the party from voting for Obama, and in walks McCain.

So now she has to ask herself, who is more likely to last 8 years- McCain, or Obama? I can't really answer that. She has a lot of power right now. So much I think that even as the loser she dictates which party wins in November. If she joins the ticket the Dems win, but she loses. If she doesn't join him, the Dems stand to lose and she can come back in 4 years.

You hit the nail on the head. Now that she know this isn't her year she will start thinking about the next election. If Obama wins she starts thinking it will be 8 years before she has a chance. And your right, 3 consecutive terms by the same party doesn't happen very often. So she will obstruct Obama so McCain wins thinking that McCain will not try for a second term because of age. When you think about it a McCain win now is her last remaining shot at becoming president.

    There's always Steven's fear-mongering....

I think she will stand behind him as VP and then go for it after his 2 terms are done.

The U.S. will be a total mess in eight years under Barack! No way.

Let's be honest it's not in a good state right now. Do you truly think McCain is able to rectify the current economic problems.. Let alone sort out the national and global issues?

  4. Just thought I would start posting here as well for some extra support and maybe will get some good vibes and get our NOA2 soon! We applied 1/17 through good ole Cali ughhhhh.....the waiting is really getting to us!

Anyway just wanted to pop in and say Hello!

    ~Steph n' Gareth

Hi Steph... We are very supportive over in the UK regional forum (I recently joined)... Nice to meet you and your other half Gareth :)

  5. England are not in it. Therefore the competition is irrelevant.

We should have played better... Although my heart will not be in the proceeding as they are not there... Hopefully we will learn from our mistakes and qualify for the world cup in 2010

  7. Getting nervous, are we? :P

Not at all. Obama hasn't a chance.

As I said time and again, he beat the Clintons. People, including yourself, said the exact same thing: He hasn't a chance. They, including yourself, were wrong on that one.

He didn't beat anything. Just wait. This isn't over by a long shot. Obama hasn't a chance. The only people that will vote for him are the ones that voted for him in the primaries. That isn't enough to win the election. When his radical far left record is brought out in the open his support will dwindle to lefties like yourself. The general election is a whole different ball game.

He beat the Clintons. You're a bit slow to see it but it'll eventually be an undeniable fact. And eventually means later this week. Mark my words, McSame isn't going to move into 1600 Penn Ave. It isn't going to happen.

Ditto... That old man won't win the election... OBAMA all the way!!

  9. well the wedding was yesterday and it went so well. The weather was AMAZING. Everything went so well. Only issue was that Nick's hands had swollen in the heat and I couldn't get his ring over his knuckle but other than that couldn't have asked for a more special day. I'll get some pics soon.

COGRATULATIONS hun.... Looking forward to seeing the pics!

  10. I love how we are all dorks on here in some way or another :-D

    You speak for yourself! :lol::P

My mom basically was like "who meets their husband/wife online?" Well, apparently lots of other people! She still buys into the old "anyone you meet online will kill you and put you in an oil barrel in a remote location."

My Mum is still of that thought... even though we met 7 years ago, have gotten married and have a son... Infact her words the other day were "you're a pretty girl... I still don't understand why you decided to meet someone online... You could have got one from real life"...
