  1. :D Dangerous, because it involves 500km of drive on a country-side roads which are antonym to a highway. It's always very crowded of trucks and other cars, always consisting of just one lane in one direction and it goes through so many villages that you wouldn't want to do it ever again. I did it many times and Lt border-warsaw road has always been a worst part of the longer trips to western europe. Wish they could build a normal highway one day and save a lot innocent people lives...

So i'm very happy that the interview was transferred to Vilnius. Although I still have to go to warsaw for the flight as the tickets to fly from Vilnius are so much more expensive

:o Dangerous? :o Why is it dangerous? Seriously, my fiancee just took a bus-load of high school students on a week-long exchange trip a few weeks ago from S. Poland to Estonia & back (even longer and more boring! :D) and we have discussed possibly doing similar trip in a year or two (we both have friends in Baltics) .... so, why is is dangerous?? :o

  2. Just a quick note. Sadly, Lithuanian airlines (FlyLAL) no longer operate and are out of business since middle of January. But i'm sure there are many other ways to get to Belarus.

    Hi amber,

I've made the trip to the US from Belarus several times now. There are only a few airlines that work directly out of Minsk - Belavia, LOT (Polish), Austrian, Lufthansa are the ones I remember. You can also travel by bus to Vilnius, Lithuania from Minsk (about 3.5 - 4 hours) and use Lithuanian airlines (FlyLAL) as they are sometimes much cheaper than the options from Minsk. Since you want to fly to Poland, maybe you should call LOT and ask about an "open-jaw" round trip ticket - for instance fly into Warsaw, then maybe get a train to Belarus (if your fiance lives in Minsk, it's cheaper to take a train to Brest and then catch another one from Brest to Minsk than to buy a train ticket going directly to Minsk from Warsaw - or so I've heard), and then maybe you can use LOT from Minsk back to the US. I have never used LOT, I usually take the Lufthansa-Frankfurt-US route, because it is most convenient (time of day, less layover time) but not always cheapest. I have also done the bus to Vilnius route a couple of times (long boring bus ride, and a little bit scary for me when I first went alone and didn't know any Russian!).

But yes, you should come here (I say here since I'm actually in Belarus right now with my husband while we wait for his appointment), because it can be SO difficult for anyone here to get visas and I know they would be very happy to meet you!!! I am assuming that even though he's an only son, there are probably plenty of other relatives and friends to meet. And they will ALL want to celebrate your engagement - I think you'll have a great time here!

  3. We received a surprising good news from embassy in Lithuania. Starting april 6th, they no longer send lithuanian applicants to Warsaw, Poland, but instead do the interview in Vilnius, Lithuania. We contacted the embassy here and they agreed to transfer the interview to Vilnius. First it was planned to be in Poland on 20th of April, but now it is being rescheduled for the second week in April in Lithuania. Yiipiii. If there are any more lithuanian applicants, you should contact the embassy!

  4. Congratulations, who got case completes. Great Job!

We're still stuck in NVC. RFE Certificates arrived on monday, but they only opened them on wednesday, and its under review. NVC also sent us a surprise yesterday, by telling that they are missing police certificate. Gosh.. Of course we are totally sure that police cert was included in DS-230 package, so we made a request to review our docs and double-check for police certificate. Thats so annoying that the process is getting delayed for false things..

We were hoping for april interview, but now have doubts. Damn...

  5. Dear Magpius,

There is something that I really want to know....How did u get to know that they need the original birth and marriage certificates? We know, this is what we call RFE, but did u call them and they asked u that they r missing with the original copies? Well, How do we know that everything going alright?

My update for today is, NVC recieved my packet at 7:44am. Do u think, if i call tonight, I will get some info like, they have recieved it and putting into the system? Does the AVR changes here?

    Sonia

We called NVC and speaked to the operator. Operator immediately said that the packages were reviewed, but there are some missing documents. And then she explained what they need and how they should be send. We send the packages on tuesday feb 10, but it got to NVC on feb 12 thursday, so it took exactly a week for them to review.

You should call and speak to the operator basically every day and you'll soon find whats the status. Good luck!

  6. So we got some news too. Sadly NVC are asking for the original birth and marriage certificates. Will be send today with DHL. So should be in NVC by tuesday or wednesday.

Does that mean that evertyhing else was totaly fine and once they get certificates, case will be completed? Or could they issue even more RFE's? And another question, do you know how long it takes NVC after receiving RFE docs to review them and take decission.

We are praying for april interview and hoping we can still make it...

  7. We just called, but nothing new on our case. NVC received IV and AOS packages on february 12 and they are now pending. 2 to 4 weeks - is what operator told. I'm a bit worried about IV package, cause I send not original birth certificate, but certified copy and translation - I needed the original in here. Don't know whats the point for the NVC to have original document in lithuanian language, but if they ask, will send it overnight.

    Congrats OBX with completed case!
