Hello everyone,
I would really appreciate your guidance regarding a B2 tourist visa application.
I am 22 years old and currently a 3rd-year Industrial Engineering student in Turkey. I am planning to apply for a B2 tourist visa to visit the United States during my summer break. My travel purpose is purely tourism, and I plan to return to Turkey before my academic term resumes.
I will be able to cover my travel expenses using my own personal savings. If necessary, I also have family support available. I am an active university student and will return to Turkey to continue my studies after my vacation.
I have relatives in the United States. One of my uncles lives in Washington, D.C. I also have a cousin who is a U.S. citizen, but this cousin is not my uncle’s child. During part of my trip, I may stay with my uncle in Washington, D.C. Later, I plan to travel to San Francisco with my aunt for sightseeing purposes, where we would stay at a hotel.
I would like to ask how financial support is best presented in a B2 tourist visa application for a student. From a consular perspective, is it generally stronger for a student applicant to show that they are funding the trip with their own savings, or is it equally acceptable to indicate that a close family member may help cover some expenses if needed?
I would also appreciate advice on how accommodation should be presented. Is it acceptable to state mixed accommodation plans (staying with relatives for part of the trip and hotels for the rest), or is it better to keep accommodation details flexible at the time of application?
Additionally, some people suggested obtaining recommendation letters from university professors describing my academic performance and character. Do such academic reference letters have any relevance or positive impact in a standard B2 tourist visa application, or are they generally unnecessary?
Finally, as a 22-year-old student, I would appreciate any advice on the most effective and least risky way to demonstrate strong ties to my home country and my intent to return after a short tourist visit.
Thank you very much for your time and for sharing your experience.
