  1. Since you became a lawful permanent resident, have you called yourself a "nonresident alien" on a Federal, state, or local tax return, or decided not to file a tax return because you considered yourself to be a nonresident? I answered “yes.” But now I have realized that I worked in my hometown for four months in 2017 and paid taxes there. My income was quite small — about $8,000. So what should I do now? Should I still say “yes” during the interview? And how can I submit a U.S. tax return for 2017 now? Thank you so much for your help!
  2. How does the officer check if a yes/no question is answered correctly? I mean, for example, if I had lived for a certain time in your hometown before getting a green card, you could be cited there. But if you said “no” on your application, how could they verify that it is not true?
  3. My main concern is how to respond to the following questions: And where do you work? (place) I’m self-employed. (Is that correct?) Where have you worked for the last five years? I’ve been self-employed. (Is that correct?) What other places have you worked at in the last five years? I don’t know how to respond to this one. How long have you worked there? I’ve been self-employed since 2010. (Is that correct?) My main concern is how to respond to the following questions: And where do you work? (place) I’m self-employed. (Is that correct?) 4. I have been working as a Software Engineer on a contract basis (tax return 1099 form) remotely. I worked as a contractor with one company for three years, and now I’m working with another one. I’ve watched a bunch of mock interviews on YouTube, and now I’m a bit confused about how to correctly answer such questions: Where do you work? (place) I work remotely (my response) Who is your employer? I am self-employed (my response) Where have you worked for the last five years? I've been self-employed for the last five years. (I mean, I can’t say the name of the company I work for as a contractor, because I’m not an employee there — correct?)
