  1. Yeah that was us, we were denied last week. Don't tell them you are not moving there at that time!

Thanks Everyone. I am probably over analyzing this way more than need me. We aren't going to ask for an extension. We started this process in April of 2012. It's done, and we just need to roll with it.

My largest concern was that we are in Ottawa, and our home place is California. In order to cross does he need to actually have a ticket going to CA or could he be going to Miami for vacation [for example]? Do they even check the tickets?? Also I was not planning on going with him if he were to fly - but I would be stateside via car. so that technically I am in the US before him. He will have all of our family/friend contacts if they ask, and he has their addresses, phone numbers etc... I just don't know how technical they are or get.

I really don't wish to drive down with him as my car has Canadian plates and if we are 'moving' I would have to import the car at that time....I don't wish to immediately do that.

These were the types of questions I wanted to ask Darnell.

so basically, he shows at the border, he's moving, his wife is already in the us [which they may ask] and bingo, bango, he's done?

  2. Thank you Darnell, I tried to end you. Pm, but your box is full. I had a few more questions and you seem very experienced...can I ask them privately??

  3. HI all,

We have completed the entire process and hubby has his visa in hand. We tried to cross yesterday, and were honest in that we were not staying, that we just wanted to activate his visa and come back to make preparations to actually move. Well that didn't go over too well. They were extremely nice, but refused him entry until he is ready to move. Our issue is that we have only 4 weeks on his visa before it expires and there is no way we will let it expire and then reapply. Our issues mainly: kids are still in school, I am 6 months pregnant, and will not move until after the baby is born, when I am on Maternity leave. Also Hubby has many jobs now here in his field coming up, and he doesn't want to leave yet.

We had read that people did cross successfully and come back and then returned completely in a few months times.

What have others done? and specifically HOW did you do it? He is thinking to turn down his next contract and just go down our family's home, await his papers and return [though he doesn't need the card to travel, his passport will suffice.] He is a landed immigrant up here in Canada - not a citizen. We just want to activate the visa without causing much commotion, and given the first refusal across, don't want any issues.

thanks in advance for the advice.

  4. You should wait cause that's the only option you got, cases at the consulates are pretty much locked up until they make a decision about it

I hope it goes fast for you

    Good Luck

Thanks Samoray and Boiler ... surely there is no alternative but to wait...but I asked the officer themself, if he gets his canadian citizenship, can freely go into the US [on that passport] and the case is still 'pending', what do we do...they said, 'Cancel the File'. To me this is illogical, if there is such a 'security risk'......

  5. Hi Everyone,

I'm a USC, my husband is an Egyptian National. We are both LPR in Canada. Applied for B2 - just to visit family in the US on August 26, 2010, and we are still waiting for anything....he was given a 221(g) green paper... and the woman at the counter did not even take any of our supporting documents.

I am in healthcare field, have a solid job at a local hospital here - have no intention of moving to the US. Gave my boss'es contact info even [he's a very notable surgeon in Eastern Canada]. We brought bank statements, pay stubs from work for both of us, letters from work, volunteer letters [hubby is in school, volunteering and working], credit card statements, our lease, everything to show we are settled...including a letter from my ex, with my divorce decree detailing that we co-parent two children, and that as a condition of our divorce, we maintain residence within 50 miles of each other for the sake of the children. My ex also stated in his letter that has no intention {Canadian Resident} of living in the US - and he will not allow the children to be moved to th US. [trying to show we have no intention of staying in the US].

With all of this information - nothing was kept. She focused on asking how I met my husband, where we married and when, and what I did here in Canada. His fingerprints were taken, and the fee [of course!] and his passport was returned, saying that it could take months, if not years....

I quickly reminded the officer that in less than a few years, he'd be a Canadian Citizen, and we'd not be having this conversation [unless NAFTA and other laws have drastically changed then!] as he would be able to walk across any border into the US with his passport, and no VISA.

At anyrate, my grandmother is 89 years old...I'd like to go down for the holidays WITH my husband [i am tired of visiting the States *alone*] and honestly ...I think that AP is valid in some circumstances....but for God's sake my husband made it through CSIS [Canadian Security etc...] and I am sure they are far more due diligent!!!!!

I failed to post my question after my rant :-) ....Has anyone else endured such a delay - and would they be willing to share details of timelines and steps taken to get approved. Thanks in advance.

  7. I think the title says it all....

I'm a US Citizen, living in Canada [landed Immigrant] and my SO is in Egypt. We will marry over there [so for that, I will be doing everything the same as everyone here who is American and has done the same...however, I am sponsoring him for Canada.

If anyone is here on the board from Canada, please PM me...

    thanks in advance,

    Rasha
