Thank you for this. This is an example of where things can get confusing when filing online because it doesn't provide the context or conditional statements "If,...", so I think what I'll do is have the paper copy to refer to while filling it out digitally.

I'm refiling my wife's i-130 and have two questions The first concerns "What is the beneficiary's Travel Document number?" I provided her passport number in the passport number field, but wonder if I should put her B-2 Visa number (control number) for the travel document number section. Some places I've seen online make it seem like they could be asking about a visa in this field. Also, in the next section it asks "What was the beneficiary's class of admission?" and then it asks about her i-94, date of arrival, and when her stay expires. She's not currently in the USA--so, should I leave this information blank or include her I-94 which shows that she visited and then left? And what about "when does the beneficiary's authorized stay expire?" My instincts say leave this blank since she is not currently in the US, but I want to be sure. Thanks so much to all.

I'm sure I filed online, what did I say that makes it seem otherwise. It was close to a year and a half ago, but my recollection is that I printed and my wife signed the i-130a (albeit incorrectly) and then I scanned it and uploaded it.

It says my wife's name. So, it looks like the i-130 was filled out properly but the mistake happened on the i-130a--I can see on the scanned document where she signed as the preparer, not the beneficiary.

Thanks for responding. I filed via the website, and interestingly the denial notice mentions the i-130 not the i-130A, which I'm sure was the one that had the incorrect signature. I'm about 80% through refiling, per the advice I've received here and elsewhere. It just frustrates me to no end that I 1.made this mistake and 2.There's not an easier way to fix it. I've attached the denial notice for your inspection.

So, it looks like we filled out the i-130A incorrectly. Sigh.

Thank you all so much for your time and effort to help. I am still thoroughly confused, however. I have downloaded the electronic version of my completed i-130 which has everything filled out correctly (it seems)--specefically the signature--a digital one--but then on my documents there is a scanned copy with the incorrect signature. It's been so long and I can't remember exactly how it goes--did I submit the i-130 correctly digitally, but then take a picture of the i-130 after it was signed incorrectly then upload that, and that's the one they used and subsequently rejected? I'm in the middle of resubmitting the entire thing, but it's got be going crazy especially with finding this electronic i-130.

Okay, thank you for your input. Have you heard of a case similar to mine, where there was a mistake on the application (specefically, the signature)?

I thought an appeal or motion to reconsider is when they make a mistake, but a motion to reopen would be different and I could submit the i-130 with the proper signatures along side the I-290b.

No, it just gave me the option to appeal or file a motion to reopen/reconsider. There wasn't anything specific pertaining to my mistake, it seems like the standard "what do to if your application is denied".

I'm the petitioner (us citizen) and my wife is the beneficiary (from Turkiye). I'll complete a timeline in my profile when I have more time. Thanks again for your time. What you're saying makes sense, I think I'm just coming to grips with having to start from scratch.

Thanks for the response. I totally messed up the signature part and didn't sign it myself, but had my wife sign as the preparer--don't ask me how I made such a big mistake. Also, it was denied not rejected. It's expensive to refile though too, right? And the only reason they gave for denial is the signature error so I feel as if I can fix that and and it won't take as long as refiling.

Hello all--I'm sorry if this is posted in the wrong place and that I'm here looking for help like this but I'm a bit desperate. My wife's I-130 was denied due to a signature error (she signed as the preparer instead of the beneficiary). There was no RFE or notice that there was an error, it was just flat out denied "The Form I-130 initially submitted was not properly signed because signed on your behalf by an unauthorized party, the beneficiary. Consequently, the petition was not properly filed" As I see it I have two options: file an I-290B as a motion to reopen or reconsider the case or just start from scratch. It looks like it's $800 to submit this form, which is a lot of money, but I accept that I made a mistake and would pay it. I just want to be sure that this is the best course of action. Does anyone here have any experience with an I-290B or can offer any advice? Thanks for taking the time.
