  1. I recently married my American wife, I immigrated on a K-1 Visa. I am in the process of putting together the Adjustment of Status package for the Chicago Lockbox. I am putting together the I-864 (Affidavit of Support), my wife and I are both students and neither of us have an income. My father in law was my financial sponsor for packet 2 for my consulate interview, he is willing to be my sponsor for the I-864 as well, is he allowed? It states that my sponsor should be my original petitioner, who is now my wife.

  2. I just immigrated on my K1 visa last night, I am now in Seattle with my fiancee, although I am a little confused. The POE officer told me, after I asked him how long it would be until I could return to Canada, that I could return at any time without any trouble since my I-94 states 'multiple' at the bottom, I asked him to check and make sure this actually was true and he told me that he would let me back in the US and his colleagues would do the same. This seems contradictory to what I have heard on here.

My second question is: They told me that I needed to wait for them to mail me forms before I could file anything. My fiancee and I were planning on getting married as soon as possible in order to hurry up the process, how long do I need to wait before they mail me the forms and information to file? Was the POE officer correct concerning this?

The process of immigration was positive, the POE officers at the border crossing were all kind and supportive (Sumas border crossing), yet they were very confused about what was going on and it took them over a hour collectively to put together my information. Due to there confusion about the general procedures of the K1 process, I am a little hesitant to take there word for the travel and filing advice they gave me, thus I thought I would present these questions to the board in order to here some feedback.

    Thanks.

  3. Hi, I faxed my checklist to the Vancouver Consulate a week ago, I have been working on filling out the forms needed and am ready to fax them to them. I just noticed at the top of the instructions pages in the Packet 3 I got, step one said "fax immediately form Ds-230 Part I, Biographic data" I guess i didnt read it carefully enough and thought I could fax it to them after I faxed them my checklist. Will they process my checklist and send me the Packet 4 before they have the DS-230? I am planning to fax it tomorrow, will this delay my interview. Thank you.

  4. Hi, I live in Vancouver, but I recently received my packet 3 from Montreal. I would much rather go through Vancouver since it is much quicker. What should I do to get my processing switched to the Vancouver consulate?

Thanks, I know I have been posting alot of questions, I'm just trying to figure this stuff out, hopefully after this is all done I can help others out who are going through this

  5. I should be waiting for an interview at the Vancouver consulate, although for some reason my petition was sent to the Montreal consulate. I live in Vancouver, so this is very strange. I hope they can get this cleared up soon, so that I can get on with the process. I heard that this has happened to others on the forum, does anyone have the link to a thread in which this happened to someone?

  6. I know I'm a bit late, I just realized there is an October filers thread. We got our packet 3 last week, although we got it from Montreal. I live in Vancouver, BC, I had to email them in order to ask them to forward my case to the Vancouver consulate. I have read about people doing this. I still havent heard back from Montreal and am getting a little antzy. Montreal told me in the Packet three that four to six months from this point till my interview, I really hope it doesnt take that long.

Congrats to all of you who got fast interview dates.

  7. Hi, I just received my Packet 3 last week. I live in Vancouver, although due to work consideration I happen to be in Calgary for the next month in a half. The packet three gave the contact information for three doctors authorized to due the medical examination, from Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver respectively. Being that it would be a real pain to fly to Vancouver for a day in order to do the examination, so that I might mail my packet 3 away, are there any doctors in Calgary who may administer the exam?

On this same note, I also need the criminal record check done by a local police unit in any city I have lived in for more than 6 months since I was 16. This for me is Calgary and Vancouver, getting the Calgary one should be simply since I am currently there; although for the Vancouver one, would it be possible to get it over the phone and have them mail it to me?

Thank you very much for your help.

  8. I dont think you will have too much of a problem. I live in Vancouver/ Calgary and my fiancee lives in Seattle, I have flown numerous times and have crossed the border by car over a dozen times since we filed our 129f, I have never had a problem. Just be honest, each time I tell the border guard that I am going to visit my fiancee, they usually ask me if I have filed my papers and what point I am at in the process, I tell them and usually that is all they want. Maybe I have been lucky, but in my expierence honesty usually brings about the best results. I knew someone who was in their K1 process and told the border guard they were just dating, he ended up being caught in his lie and was refused entry.

  9. I wrote down Vancouver as my local consulate on my 129f petition, it was approved on Jan. 29, 2009, although I just called the consulate and they said that they do not process k1/3 visas. Where will my visa be processed, and further where will my interview be? Being that it will not be in Vancouver and I wrote Vancouver as my local consulate, will this create a large problem for me?

  10. We submitted our I129f in October 2008, since I have travelled to Seattle from both Vancouver and Calgary probably 17 times, twice by plane, and the rest by car. Each time I told the officer I was visiting my fiancee, they often ask what forms we have filed, I tell him the truth and never once have I had a problem. Now that we have received our NOA2, will travelling be simpler, or more difficult. Thanks alot.

  12. My Fiancee mailed our I-129f packet to the California service Center and we recieved our NOA1 - I-797 on October 21. She just realized that she forgot a copy of her birth certificate or Passport, thus not being able to prove US citizenship. What is our best course of action? Is is possible to mail these documents before the official review begins? If we do recieve an RFE due to lack of documents, how long then will it delay our visa process. Thank you for your imput.

  13. Hi, my fiancee and I are hoping to get married in June, she is the American and I am a Canadian. We will be getting married in Seattle. We just send away our I-129f packet. We would like to spend our honeymoon in Quebec, Canada, will this be a problem? Will our marriage license be enough to get back into the United States after our honeymoon? Thanks for everyone's imput.

  14. My fiancee lives in Seattle and I live in Abbotsford (about 1 hour from Vancouver), we are just about to file the K1 Visa. I usually drive down to Seattle on the weekends and spend about 3 days there a week. After we send in our application is it possible for me to continue making these trips? Further I have heard that some people petition directly to Montreal for permanent residency, is this a better route for us?
