  1. Hi everyone, I'm doing research and already looking into preparing parts of the AOS package. I'm not in the US yet, but since I know I have 90 days after arriving to send in this package, and I need to send in two (for my son as well), I'd like to do some work already. Our K1 package took me months so I wanna be prepared I guess. Now I have 2 questions, can I send my own package and my son's package in one 1 envelope or do we have to send them in individually? And how does it work to get a social security card or number? I've heard you can apply for one once you arrive, but I also saw on the I-485 form you can get one there. If anyone has any good tips of how to file with a child as well, please let me know since I can't find much about that. Thanks!
  2. We're in the middle of that process. I was just worried that by adopting him or having guardianship it could mess up our process because of info we have filled out before, so I was checking.
  3. Thanks! I've reached out to them so we'll wait and see. And yes, I'm Dutch 😊
  4. Thanks for all the info. I'll definitely reach out to lawyers. It's tricky having to deal with one country's law, let alone two! But as of the dad, he moved to a different country 6 years ago, so it's been just me and my boy. Since a few months I have full custody and we have zero contact with any friends or family in this country anymore. Which is why I wanted to set up a safe environment for my son just in case of emergencies, so he wouldn't have to be with people he doesn't know or like, but be with someone he sees as his own father instead. It's a complicated situation and I'm hoping it will all get easier once we move and get to be together as a family. But my health scare just made me worry and overthink things for my boy. I'll definitely be in touch with lawyers. Thanks everyone.
  5. Thank you both! I'll contact a lawyer first thing tomorrow.
  6. We are not in touch with the father. Which is why I'd like my fiancé to be the guardian so if something would happen to me my son would be with someone he knows and loves instead of a stranger.
  7. Hi everyone, My fiancé and I have filed for the K1 visa several months ago, now we're waiting. Last week I suddenly needed emergency surgery that could have been fatal and I realized that my son wouldn't have anywhere to go if something would ever happen to me. I have full legal custody and his father is out of the picture. My son sees my fiancé as his dad. We've been together for 8 years so he's my son's dad really, even from a distance. I'd really like to make my fiancé my son's legal guardian, in case of emergencies my son will be taken care of by my fiancé, like we all want. My question is, if my fiancé can be my son's legal guardian in the Netherlands, does that mean it's legal and counts in the US too? Final question, will there be consequences to our K1 visa process if we do this? Since on the form we had to fill in my son's name (and he would like to take my fiancés name instead) and how many kids my fiancé has. We don't wanna jeopardize our visa process but I'd also very much like my son to be taken care of by my fiancé in case of emergencies, instead of someone who doesn't know or like.
  8. Where I'm from they don't legally change your last name to your husband's name once your married. You can use it but it's not legally changed. So in my passport it says "wife of" with my ex husband's last name.
  9. Hi everyone, We sent in our I-129F package several weeks ago. But now I'm wondering if I (the beneficiary) can get a new passport? In my old one it says "wife of" and a signature that I used when I was previously married. I always wanted to get a new passport because of this, especially since starting a new life and being engaged I don't like seeing "wife of" and an old signature in my passport. Last week I gained full custody over my son, so now I dislike seeing this info in my passport even more. Now I'm wondering if I can get a new passport when we already sent in a copy of my old one, and I signed the package with my signature related to my ex husband. Can I get a new passport and change my signature? If so, do I need to contact anyone and keep them up to date? Thank you.
  10. I feel kinda stupid now, the letter we received was our NOA1! I just thought it was a receipt of our payment, and I assumed the NOA1 would include a "welcome to USCIS" message because I thought I read that somewhere 😅
  11. Oh that's great! Glad to hear you've received your NOA1 and hopefully soon we will as well then 😁
  12. Hi, We've sent our package exactlyn2 weeks ago. So far we've only received a text message saying they've received it and we should expect a letter in the mail, and a receipt for the $675. We haven't received a welcome letter with a receipt number and online access code yet. How long does this normally take? I had a look on several people's timelines and often people received it in a few days already.
  13. Great! Thanks so much! I was wondering where I read that 😁
  14. Hi, we're about to mail our package!! So excited. I know what address to use, but I read somewhere we need to include on the envelope that it's an original submission for the I-129F, I just can't find where I read that. Is this true?
  15. Hi everyone everyone, My fiancé and I are about to send in our K1 package. On the I-129F form there's a question that asks where the beneficiary (me) will live once I get to the US. My fiancé is going to sell the house and move somewhere in a few months though. So the address I'll be moving to that's on our form now would have to be changed at some point. Is this possible? If so, how and where do we do this? Thanks 😊
  16. That's good to know, thank you. I already took one, but then I realized my ears not showing, so I wanted to double check 🤭
  17. Ok, that makes sense. So your hair down or having bangs should be no problem then? May I ask what you did?
  18. I'm aware, but it doesn't say whether you need to be able to show your ears or not. Where I'm from it's normal to do so, but I can't find any guidelines on it for US passport standards.
  19. Hi, does anyone know if your ears need to be visible or not in the passport style pictures? Thank you.
  20. Oh my god, so many amazing tips and feedback! Thanks everyone!! One more quick question. I keep reading how people signed and dated every single page of their package (including photos, birth certificate and other evidence). How has done this and who hasn't? When you didn't, was this a problem and did you get an RFE?
  21. That sounds like a great idea, thanks! I'll definitely take a birth certificate and school information, hopefully that will be fine then. Especially since I can show our return tickets too 😊
