I have moved to the states and I am now married. I recently sent off all the documents for my change of status to become a permanent resident. I have received a letter with a date to have my biometrics taken. I was wondering if anyone had any idea of how long it takes to get the change of status after that.

i was rejected with the old certificate, get the new one fast if i was you. it might cost extra but you will have to pay for pick up of the new certificate by SMS. if you have the new certificate you will get your visa quicker.

Just put you best know estimate, thats what i did

i put an approximate date down, one that i was expecting to have everything completed by.

Just got the message from the SMS guys i should have documents by tomorrow. YIPPIE!!!!!!!

It's weird on my documentation, I have two instructions on Police Certificates. One's the ACRO and there's another Public Subject Access PNC Record one.

I've applied for both just in case. I daren't return the interview readiness form without both, so i'll sit it out.

Hopefully the other one won't take 40 days as advertised.

Mine took 40 days for the old style then when i got rejected i got the fast track on the new type and had it in three days, the new type of certificate will be the one that you need.

if its taking 40days how come these others have got theirs, where did you get that info from

Sam and Nic - same boat as you... interview on 21st April - blue form to submit new PC - SMS pikced it and passport up on 29th April.... and passport returned yesterday (7th May) with visa and 'do not open' immigration officer envelope :-)

I hope mine comes soon, i know everyone keeps saying relax it will be there, the thing is the only thing that will make me relax is getting the visa, this has to be the most stressful time of my life!!!!

Any updates about your police cert/ visa receipt?

My fiance's interview was April 21 and he were given a blue form and told to get the new certificate also. He got the new cert and sent it back via SMS Courier on April 29. Just wondering if they also told you it would only take five days?

We bought our tickets already and I'm stressing out a bit as well, thinking the visa won't get here before we're due to fly to the states!

Lesson learned - even when you think you're in the clear, it's better to do everything possible to make sure they have absolutely no reason to tell you 'not yet.'

Unfortunately i havent had any info back yet. i also sent mine off on the 29th April using the courier, the courier told me on th ephone that it would be 10 - 14 days. Was it the courier who told you it would be 5 days? i am stressing a little too as i have to go to work in a week or two, which involves international travel! i assume that you are using the london embassy?

after reading this i am a little worried. am i correct in understanding that when you get your visa in your passport, it comes in a sealed envelope. and you arent supposed to open it until you give it to immigration when you travel. this is gonna be a problem for me as i need to go away on my passport for work before i go to the USA. can someone please clear this up for me.

Thanks for your comments, i am sure its all gonna be ok, i am stressing for nothing i know it just seems i cant get a break at the moment. i wish i could take a sickie if i needed to, i have already sent the stuff off for the police certificate, just waiting now. I had my interview on the 23rd April and i got refused with a blue form and was told that i had to get the new police certificate, and all i had to do was send it off with my passport using the courier services, however i didnt get any welcome to amercia booklet or anything like that, they said i should still get my visa but i am stressin like crazy about if i am going to get and when i might get it as i am working to a bit of a time table because of my job.

I went for my interview recently and i was reject under section 221(g), which is because i didnt present documents that i should have. The document in question was the Police certificate, since i had applied and recieved my Police certificate they changed the system, so i was told that i needed to get the new certificate. I was then told that i would need to send this with my passport to the Embassy and they would process my visa. My question to anyone who could help is once i send these documents off and the blue form, how long will it be before i recieve my visa or another rejection, depending on how they review the application. Please help someone the stress is becoming unbearable.
