Hi, I got in US jan 20 th.. and days later, I went over to DMV in CA to renew my former driver´s license, and they did all of the process, but didnt issue same day because they requested AT LEAST my Social security number. So, Next day, I went over to the Social Security office, and they printed my number. I took to the DMV and they finally issued my renewal.
It is good to tell you, that Social Security officer told me that they had issued a Social Security num,ber for me, 2 days after my arrival, which makes me suggest you to take couple of days before going to the social security office to get your number. Remember, go there before going to the DMV.
Social security and Green card didnt come yet, but with my drivers license and social security number I can enrol in any college or get a job.
Best Regards,
Aryadne

I passed, got my passaport with visa on it already, but, after or during interview, I didn´t get any slip of any color......
I was so nervous that I barely remeMber what the Consul said at the end: " Hi, everything seems fine to me. Go the the consular officer outside arrange the delivery of your passaport." nothing else....
Then, I asked the consular officer why he didnt give me any slip, and she said, "Good, seems your are all good, all set, and there is no docs missing..."
To be honest, I didnt really care about slip afterwards... I knew if something was wrong, consul would say DENIED.
heheheh

Hi, I just got my interview and they asked me the originals -since I had sent to NVC certified copies. Also, I felt great to have original, copies and also copy of the whole visa process, because, I´ve heard about misplacing, misunderstandings...
good luck!

Got there at 6:30 and there was 2 couples already waiting. As usual, a big lane for non-immigrant, and by 7:30, a lane of around 15 people for immigrant-v all of them married ones.
The consular officer told us to present only the docs that were not send to NVC - in my case Medical Exam. At 9 o´clock, I was called by another consular officer for present the missing docs, pics and original docs (Birth, Marriage, Police clearences).
* PS about this moment: He asked me if my husband address has changed in CA, and that was the right moment to tell him yes, and I gave them the new address.. he asked me to write on the DS 230 form. Then, he look at my pics and said I need to shot them again because my ears weren´t enough clear.. even after I showed him how small they were... In fact, he asked me to go out and take new ones with pen caps behind my ears... (heheheh) I also mentined to him that I had new original of Birth and MArriage certificate because the ones I have sent to NVC were plastified... so, he asked kindly to make new copies out side as well.
Remark: most parte of the immigrants that were there had to take NEW PICS as well, because they had problems with their ears...
When I came back, around 10:00, some of the people were already interviewd by the same CO, and were waiting for the Consul. I was the third one to face the consul. Don´t need to mention that I took a big bag of evidences and all of the copy of the process with me, however, what really made a difference, in my case, was a letter from my attorney regarding my preview overstaied in 2005 (for only 4 months) and the lawsuit process that I moved against the school that negligencied my B2 visa (that was I lost my B2 visa)...
Interview: My number was called, then I came into this very small room where me and the consul were separate by a glass window. The consul talked to me in portuguese all the time, and never asked if I want to speak in english... I had a feeling he didnt want to spend too much time with no one.... hE ASKED me to do fingerprint and after warsd, asked me to sworn.... All of this very quickly. Then, he imediatly start asking me:
Questions:
1- my name
2- my husband´s name
1- my birthdate
4- my husband´s birthdate
5- year of meeting first time
6- if Kevin was divorced
7 If he had kids
- when he got divorced
9- the day we met - again
(then he mention "so, he was married when you too were dating" (arggghh).... then, I answer "No, sir, He was separated, starting a divorce process...."
10- Did u live in US (that was when he saw the overstay period and got very irritated)
11- He asked me how long did I stay in CA for the last entry - I said 10 months and start telling him what was the problem and that I did a lawsuit to prove that I never intent to be illegal for 4 motnh
12- then he said very mean: "PROVE IT" - meaning about the lawsuit...
13- then I handed to him all of the lawsuit pprocess and the letter of my attorney explanning and highlighting that there was no reason for deny my visa.
14 He asked to wait out side (panic!!!!)
After 40 minutes praying to God, he called me again, gave me back my originals and said " Ma´an, all of it it seems very clear and fine to me, please, go to the other consular officer to manage the delivery of your passaport."
all in all, Consul were very assortive and polite, even mention that rude commentary. Never asked one pic to prove my relationship. However, embassy procedure seemed very organized and if the applicant is organized as well, all of that goes smooth.

People, have many butterflies in my stomach today!
Have checked out all of the docs and bonefide evidences.... so, the question that comes into my mind over and over again is WHAT COULD GO WRONGGGGGG!!!!!...
So, I am going back home to Rio de Janeiro on monday, since I am in another state for the family holidays, and the funniest thing is , wherever I go since the day of NVC approval, nov 26, I take my "interview bag" with me - note: I have been carring out original docs, pictures, medical exma, printed reseaches, passport, everything that will be necessary to the interview... Am I going crazyyyyyy....
So, I am here today not only to share these last feelings prior to interview, but to once again encourage all of you who are on the way, to get strong and hand in there cause the day is coming!
Thanks,
Ary

Hi,
As you already know, my case was completed in nov 26th, and so far I (beneficiary) haven´t received anything, but my husband and my attorney did.
Who knows why..............

Hi, I am 22 before my interview date, and we all can imagine how excited I am to be back in US with my husband.
So, Kevin, my husband is also very excited, and after living 5 years in the same house, we decided to move to a bigger one before my arrival. So, he moved out last week.
My question is, how would I mention this to the CO during interview withoug sounding negative or to much explannation... to who should I inform that update and when would I do that, right in the middle of interview, after arriving in US....
Thanks in advance.

Hi, I was freaking out too, because my case was completed in nov 26th, and I didnt receive any app letter (inrterview) so far, but my husband and my attorney in US already did. So, I communicated with US Consulate in RJ asking about it, especially because NVC told me the interview date was schedduled for januray 9th, and they said that I should not be worry about receiving or not the letter, because It was just an instruction letter and the same info I could get through the embassy´s website.
I guess, first thing you should do is call NVC and get interview date.

Ary

Hi, Ken
Thanks for the reply! I ´ve been through so much information regarding this whole journey and I was sure that I had read about the validity of the Police Records, and, yes, yesterday I found out it again confirming that Rio´s consultae accepts the certificates for 1 year issued(http://travel.state.gov/pdf/pk3_supplements/RDJ-PK3-ENGL-0711.pdf) .
So, here is the address for your wife to get POLICE CERTIFICATE:
POLICE RECORD ( FROM RIO DE JANEIRO):
IIFP- INSTITUTO DE IDENTIFICAÇÃO FÉLIX PACHECO
Rua Frei Caneca, N. 505 -Centro - Rio de Janeiro
CEP: 20.211-020 - Rio de Janeiro -RJ
tel: (21) 3399-3881
www.policiacivil.rj.gov.br/iifp
obs: she will need to get the on-line Embassy´s request for Police Certificate (http://www.embaixada-americana.org.br/fiance/CertVidPriv.pdf)
POLICE RECORD (FROM STATE)
SUPERINTENDÊNCIA DA POLICIA FEDERAL

Fone: 2203-4008
obs: she will need to get the on-line Embassy´s request for Police Certificate (http://www.embaixada-americana.org.br/evrybody/felix.pdf)
FEES: I DON´T REALLY REMEMBER IF WE HAD TO PAY IT (I GUESS I AM IN A POINT WHERE I CAN BARELY THINK STRAIGHT), BUT IF SO, IT WAS SOMETHING SIMBOLIC, LESS THAN 50 REAIS...
TIME: MAXIMUM OF 2 WEEKS TO GET THEM.
DOCS REQUEST: SHE NEEDS TO TAKE COPIES OF ID AND THE CONSULAR REQUEST THAT SHE CAN GET ON LINE THROUGH THE ADDRESS I AM GIVING YOU.

I got to know here that:
****Note about POLICE CERTIFICATES and validity****
Consul replied:
"Although the certificate is only valid for 3 months, we can accept it
until one year after it was issued, for immigrant visas purpose.
Regards,
Consular Communications Office"
So, I ´d like to know where the statement above can be found officialy on the Brazilian Embassy Website or any where else, since, I am trying to explain to my ATTORNEY that it won´t be necessary to get another POLICE RECORD CERTIFICATE, since mine is expired 3 motnhs and my interview is set for january 9th.
Can u guys help me to find it...
Beijos

Hi, guys!
I read somewhere that, for the ones who the prior problems with immigration, it is necessary to take to the interview the Record about it and all of the documents related to it.
So, in 2005 I had my B-2 Visa automatically cancelled because I overstayied in California 3 months. However, I didn´t know about it, because I was studing ion California, and I dodn´t know I had my visa cancelled. long story short, in the same year, after a short trip to Brazil, I returned to CA thinking everything was fine with my visa, and at Atlanta POE, I got to know that the visa was canceled, they barred my entrance and sent me back to Brazil. That was my prior problem with the immigration.
So, my question are:
- do I have to present the record of this experience to the interviewr
- after that sad episode, I sued the school where I was attending, and I won the case in 2008. So, Do I need to present all of the documents of this lawsuit, which proves that I didnt mean to be illegal for 3 months...
Thanks for the help!

So, in this case, what you are saying is, if the petitioner doesn´t qualify, it would be deny right at the first moment at NVC - I864. correct...
-
From this point where you got today, I took 9 months until the interview date.
Good luck!
